Essay: Do you think social networks are a tool to gain friends or a means of isolation?

During the wide distribution of the internet, social networks are more and more used for means of communication. But does this new type of development provide a better way to find friends or does it lead to isolation instead?

First of all, one can say that social networks like facebook make it easy to keep in contact with friends and family as it is convenient, fast and for free. Therefore it offers a good way to maintain a relationship. To actually make friends through facebook though, seems to be more debatable. These particular types of friendships are based on a non-physical relationship, in which gestures, expressions and the outward appearance are not presented to each other. As these are important chracteristics of a person, the question occurs if one really gets to know the true personality through facebook. Hence, facebook friendships are rather acuaintances and therefore superficial.
However, social networks give members the opportunity to contact old friends they havent seen in a while. Furthermore especially facebook allows members to find people from the same school or class. In this case facebook can help finding friends for people who are too shy to approach somebody personally.

Nevertheless, social networks should not be overused but can be used additionally to normal cummunication. I believe that isolations only occur on very rare occasions. This can happen, members of social networks get addicted and view e.g. facebook as the highest level of communication. But as I already mentioned, real friends cannot be made by facebook. All in all one can say that social networks can be helpful in some situations but still isnt enough on its own to make friends.

So now in this final learning objective I am going to be looking at the different ways which a business can benefit from using social media on a regular basis. So the kinds of ways that this happens are through social networking sites for example Facebook. When using Facebook, all a business has to do is to create an account under the brand name of the business, post pictures of products, video demonstrations of the products and promotional offers for the products you are selling. What this then does is gets your business trending, trending refers to when people start using you page either on Facebook or Twitter, then start sharing picture’s you have posted...

These options become even more intriguing with the steady price increases of television advertising despite the growth of several unfavorable conditions. ...Social Networks and Brands. Evaluate the impact of “social media” on brands and outline the key challenges posed for brand managers. Provide your recommendation/guidelines to managers for handling these challenges. Are social media a friend or an enemy to brands..? Written by Vouli Christina | 4/2/2015 | A great definition of social networks according to investopedia is "the use of internet-based social media programs to make connections with friends, family, classmates, customers and clients".Social networking is a tool that can be used both for social and business purposes. Some examples of today's social networks are Facebook, LinkedIn, instagram, twitter, Google+ e.t.c. To begin with, nowadays social media seems to have a great impact on brands and especially in their marketing process. The development of social media gave a great power to customers to have online conversations not only with other existing customers around the world but was also developed the need to have online conversations with the brand itself. According to an October study from The Nielsen Company and its social media affiliate, NM Incite, “60 percent of consumers researching products though multiple online sources learned about a specific brand or retailer through social networking sites” in the third quarter of 2011. ...Social Media Jackie Johnson Hum-186 May 25, 2015 Erin Di Cesare Social Media When it comes to social media there is no one-size fits all, in today’s society it is much easier to obtain information from social media than one would think. There are advantages and disadvantages of easily obtainable information, just like there is advantages and disadvantages to social media, and knowing these advantages and disadvantages may very well alter the way one uses social media. Believe it or not there are advantages to easily obtainable information. One of which is expediency, it is convenient for people to be in one place and catch the hottest news, listen to fresh top songs on the billboard charts, watch and share music videos to those songs, while at the same time holding a conversation through chat multiple friends instantly. It is easier than reading the newspaper, watching TV, listening to the radio, and talking on the phone all at once to achieve the same thing. One can multi-task and do these things efficiently while conforming to society’s intolerant nature. A disadvantage of easily obtainable information is identity theft, which is where critical or sensitive information is available when it shouldn’t be. Another one is the unintentional discovery of finding out a family member perishing in a car accident or some other drastic way before the information is able to be properly delivered. Social Media and the Elderly

...Social Media and the Elderly Is The Use of Social Media Making The Elderly Better-Connected? Websites such as Facebook and Google+ are commonly referred to as social media. Social media are websites and internet-based applications which allow users to exchange content and messages with each other. Over the course of the past decade, social media has become more and more important. At the same time, in all developed countries and in many developing countries, the population has begun to age as both birth and death rates fall. There is much research which indicates that social media makes it easier to interact with other people, to find people with similar interests, and to keep in touch with those whom one already knows. However, there is nearly just as much research which indicates the opposite – that social media serves to disconnect one from one's friends, that it creates social isolation, and that it causes superficial interactions. Adding to the difficulties in reaching a clear conclusion about this matter is the fact that many, if not most of the studies about the effects of social media on friendships and social interactions have been done on the young. Even for studies about the young, it is not entirely certain if a broader social network encourages adoption of social media, or if adoption of social media encourages a broader social network. Judging from what is known about other differences between older people and young people, it is quite likely that the ways in...

People use them to interact with their friends or family from all around the world. An example of a social network that is commonly used is Facebook, which enables individuals to post pictures and statuses about their lives to show to others. Social networks aren’t only used by the public, but now by businesses also. They include updating your location, sending links and images to each other, exchanging messages, sending and accepting friend requests. I have chosen to focus on two popular and large names within the industry; LinkedIn and Facebook. People use these differently to businesses. Businesses use Facebook to create and organization page, to upload pictures and events on their business products in order to advertise their organization to the people who use these social networks. Organizations found out that is a user likes their profile or page, then their friends will be able to see it and like it also, Amazons Facebook profile for instance, which inclines people to shop at the Amazon website or at least browse. Then this cycle repeats and become more and more known throughout the world as more and more people are liking the page which will make the company more popular and sites like Facebook and Likednl become more aware of it.
