Dog Care: Ear Mites and Ear infections The article mainly talks about how to diagnosis, prevent, and the dangers of ear infections and ear mites. Ear infections in dogs are very similar to ear infections in humans. If the infection goes without treatment for a long period of time it can and will cause hearing loss. To know if your dog has an ear infection it will appear with yellow discharge and will be irritated, when the ear is touched the dog will usually whine because of the pain. Another way to tell if the dog has an infection, they will frequently shake their head and scratch at it as well. When the ear infection is caught it needs to be treated immediately and if not it may result in antibiotics or surgery. In order to achieve that, in this paper, I will first conduct a close analysis of my vocation decision with reference to my personal profile. Afterwards, a relevant research including literature review and interviews of people who undertake similar professions will be carried out to examine if the vocation meets my expectation. Finally, after considering potential impediments and strengths, a strategic and purposeful plan of helping realizing my vocation will be made. It should be noted that finding one’s vocation could be a lifelong process. The vocation decided in this paper is based on the knowledge, experience and thoughts I possess at present stage. Therefore, the possibility of radical changing should be allowed. The initial consideration of what my vocation should be According to Weber, vocation refers to a commitment to a specialist area of work that the individual engages with in terms that almost equate with religious zeal (1958). ...organization. The first way is offer onsite day care facilities. The study suggests that on-site daycare is not only affordable; it is in many cases profitable. Further, the study found that a majority of workers would be willing to contribute to the cost of employer-sponsored daycare whether or not they used the benefit. "There are several kinds of employers who typically have on-site childcare, such as high-tech and healthcare industries, and others who need 24-hour workers, such as airline reservation companies," notes Connelly. "The few studies that have been done on on-site childcare focused on those companies with highly educated workforces. We were particularly interested in another group of companies - those who weren't offering daycare as part of a whole package of family-friendly benefits or because of a corporate philosophy, but rather because they had done an economic analysis of their particular set of workers and had decided that on-site childcare would be economically beneficial to their company." The second way is pet-friendly offices. Not all companies are created equal when it comes to the acceptance of dogs in the workplace. Some readily welcome your best friend while others have not yet realized the benefits of allowing dogs. The majority of companies that allow dogs are small start-up companies who realize the need for a flexible work environment or large high tech firms that allow dogs in order to capture the interest of a prospective employee...

Research

...Haylee Bowers Research Paper 11/20/13 In today’s society, cruelty towards animals is growing rapidly because people don’t understand the value of an animal’s life. People all around the world use and abuse animals as if it was some kind of national sport, and everybody is competing for the first place gold medal. Ever year millions of animals are being beaten and starved because of heartless people. Animal cruelty is a social issue that many people don’t understand. All the people who abuse animals don’t understand when they are harming an innocent animal are going to continue to do it until they are shown what they are doing wrong. Each type of abuse has certain patterns that scientists can study and find out why people commit the crimes they do. Animal cruelty is broken down into two categories, which are active and passive. Active cruelty is also known as NAI (non-accidental injury). NAI is when a person has malicious intent so fierce that they deliberately and intentionally cause harm to an animal. On the other hand with passive cruelty a person doesn’t intentionally cause harm to the animal, they simple neglect it by giving it no attention. While I was doing the research for this essay, I thought non-stop about how a human being could break a dogs leg, back, or even neck and feel no sympathy for the dog? Are some people in this world that heartless that they have no feelings for other living things? I wonder if you asked a person that has abused an animal if they...

Animal Testing

...used for Research During the past ten years, a major controversy over the use of animals in biomedical and behavioral research has arisen. The debate about using animals for medical testing has been ongoing for years. The struggle is usually between animal rights activists and scientist. I believe that animal testing is imperative to the progression of medical cures, procedures and drugs. Scientists have been solving medical problems, developing new techniques and treatments, and curing diseases by using animals in biomedical research. Animal rights advocates believe that animals should not be exploited by humans, and that animals have the same rights as humans. Anti-vivisectionists oppose the use of animals in medical research. They believe that medical researchers are cruel and inhumane. Animal Welfare does not oppose all use of animals in research. They oppose inhumane and unnecessary use of animals and fight to eliminate pain and suffering of animals. On the Contrary, scientists argue that animal research is necessary because it helps them develop medications, vaccines, or new procedures to treat or prevent diseases for both humans and animals. Most research projects either do not involve pain or the pain is alleviated with analgesic or anesthetic drugs. They understand that pain causes stress for the animals, and this stress can seriously affect the results of the study. With all these controversies about this issue, why are animals necessary in research? Because...

Pit Bulls Argument Essay

...Next, the arguments of those who are against breed specific legislation of the Pit Bull breeds will be presented. One argument they present is that all dogs can attack and cause fatalities. Pit Bulls attacks are the ones that are published in the media and bring a bad reputation to their name. The cases of other attacks are not highlighted in the media, which is why most individuals feel that Pit Bulls are the only breeds who attack others. Also, the behavior of those who do attack are often influenced by other factors, such as the environment they were raised in. German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Jacks Russell’s, Spaniels, St. Bernard’s, and even Labrador retrievers have all been found to be highly represented in biting incidents (American Veterinary Medical Association). In defense of the higher amount of severe injury or fatalities being caused by Pit Bulls, there are other factors that need to be taken into account before the breed can be blamed. The breed may be popular in the victim’s community, and the dog’s treatment by...

But putting documents or pages on the web is easy, cheap, or free, unregulated, and unmonitored (at least in the USA). There is a famous Steiner cartoon published in the New Yorker (July 5, 1993) with two dogs sitting before a terminal looking at a computer screen; one says to the other ‘On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog.’ The great wealth that the Internet has brought to so much of society is the ability for people to express themselves, find one another, exchange ideas, discover possible peers worldwide they never would have otherwise met, and, through hypertext links in web pages, suggest so many other people's ideas and personalities to anyone who comes and clicks. There are some real "dogs" out there, but there's also great treasure. Therein lies the rationale...

Hawaiian Monk Seals Research Paper

...however, these are the main issues, in my opinion that contribute to their endangerment. My paper will discuss further the conservation issues observed, as well as implications and resources being done to find recovery solutions. Possessing genetic variation is crucial for population survival. When there is low genetic diversity observed in species, it indicates that they are becoming threatened, which can stem from multiple reasoning’s. Having low variation in genes is a characterization seen with Hawaiian monk seals. They are the only marine mammal specie to have the lowest genetic diversity of just three polymorphic loci (Schultz et al., 2010). Having this feature puts them at high-risk of being inadaptable to environmental changes that can occur suddenly or over time. A hypothesis for is that their genetic variation became lost in different regions via selective sweeps from incoming diseases of the first human settlers and mammals that came alongside them (Schultz et al., 2010). For example, in the coastal settings, Watson et al. suggests that dogs that came on the island were a major factor in affecting the prehistoric marine mammal population because of their harassment, hunting, and diseases they could have possibly brought from whichever they originated (Watson et al, 2011). This is evident through an observer that came after the initial settlements in the 1820s of Hawai’i: “the wild dogs had almost exterminated the sheep that Vancouver had brought with the cattle, pursuing...

Philosophies, Theories, and Concepts

...Philosophies, Theories, and Concepts Jamie Field ECE 311 Early Childhood Curriculum & Methods Prof. Terri Surrency 08/26/2013 My goal for the future is to open my own in-home preschool and provide a positive and healthy learning experience to all that attend. I want to help guide and prepare our young children for their future in academics and life in general while having fun at the same time. My goals for the children are to teach them positive social skills, to be respectful to all people and things, to give them a voice and allow them to input their own ideas and opinions, give them a sense of pride and accomplishment to build self esteem, and to just love learning. Kindergarten today is not what it used to be and unfortunately, most children are not prepared for this. It’s important that our children feel comfortable and capable of entering into Kindergarten, which is where I come in. Although I do not have a concrete teaching philosophy I think I am leaning towards student-centered and progressivism. I think that teachers and students should work together to create learning experiences and opportunities. Progressive education is a form of education advocated by John Dewey in the early twentieth century. The basic idea of this philosophy is that students learn through experience, rather than through memorization. “Dewey believed that students, facing and ever-changing world, should master this scientific method: (1) Become aware of a problem; (2) define it; (3)...

...INTERNET MINIATURE PINSCHER SERVICE (IMPS) DC METRO REGION LET'S SAVE MORE MINIATURE PINSCHERS Proposal to Update IMPS Maximum Intake Age William L. Harris Jr, IMPS Regional Coordinator DC, DE, MD, VA, WV 12/13/2014 Informative Abstract: This proposal is the result of research into the effects of the current Internet Miniature pinscher Service policy restricting the intake age limit of five for rescues. The current policy is in effect from a time in the past when money was tight and vet bills were high. The proposal highlights three possible courses of action including maintaining the status quo, changing the limit to seven years and replacing the age limit with a percentage based system to identify how many seniors can be taken in. The author identifies multiple ideas that can be used to bring the veterinary costs down while at the same time allowing more dogs to be rescued. Of the three Courses of Action, only one works today, which is the increase to seven, but there is a way forward highlighted that could eventually result in a removal of the age limit and conversion to a percentage based senior intake system. Camp Bow Wow

...Camp Bow Wow Corporate Budgeting: Final Project My companies name is Camp Bow Wow, which is an overnight boarding facility for mainly dogs but other animals are welcome. The company was started in 2009 when the owner (Kasandra, myself) decided to become the owner of a dog named Buddy. All was well until Kasandra had a vacation planned and could not find any boarding facilities to meet the standards she was looking for. She had also recently inherited a large some of money in the amount of about 200,000 from the passing of her grandparents who also shared the love of animals with her. Kasandra used that money to find a place she could live and turn into a boarding facility and luckily she was able to find the perfect house with lots of land in the middle of town, so she got to work and the company shared its grand opening with the community in spring of 2011. The company has successfully been around for almost 3 years now offering products such as boarding, bathing, nail trims, and other products to ensure your animal is safe and happy. The location is right in the middle of the town of Appomattox so it’s perfect for people who are traveling in either direction and is known for their non-traditional animal boarding facilities, while targeting mainly dog breeds the facility is open to animals of several kinds. The reason we say its non-traditional is because the animals are not just kept in kennels all day and walked a few times unless requested by the owner, but actually...

Lost Innocents

...The Lost Innocents Richard Napper University of Phoenix When an individual makes the complicated decision of adding a four-legged member to their family it should be viewed as a lifelong commitment. The majority of people who decide to take in a new four legged family member usually have the best intentions at the time. However, life happens and things tend to change. The puppy who was once small and adorable is now full grown, becoming ignored, and is chewing for attention. The kitten who was once a cute little ball of fur is now not so little and clawing the furniture and using the potty in paces other than the litter box. Maybe there was a job loss in the family, or the individual has become homeless because of financial mishaps. With foreclosure on the rise these days due to a bad economy this is happening more often than not lately. One must plan for these types of issues that may arise in the near or distant future. There are a lot of individuals who believe that an animal shelter is the answer of all answers. The awful truth is they are mostly overcrowded and under staffed. More animals get euthanized inside the shelter due to lack of space than adopted by potential lifelong owners in the animal shelter. The animal shelter should not be used as a way to ease guilt on the former owners’ conscience. It should not be used as a dump site or a place to put your older animal like you would a senior citizen in a nursing home. Is animal abandonment ethically and morally wrong...

...Zenith Pet Food Case Paper Zenith Pet Foods, Inc. is a large distributor of show-grade dog food. The company distributes only within the United States. Its plan is to introduce the product in the Boston area. Zenith dog food is a high-grade, frozen dog food made of quality, organic ingredients. The target market has been show-dog kennels in the past, but the entity has recently turned its attention to the dog as a household pet. The product promises to produce a shinier, healthier coat on the consuming animal. Zenith needs freezer space to sell its products, and the plan is to distribute through supermarkets, where the majority of the dog food is sold based on Zenith’s market studies. The company faces a very large amount of competition within the dog-food market. Some of those competitors include Dog Chow distributed by Nestle Purina Pet Care, which sells 23 percent of dry dog foods in the supermarkets, Kal Kan Pedigree distributed by MasterFoods USA, selling 18 percent of wet dog food, and Kibbles ‘N Bits distrusted by Del Monte Foods, which sells 69 percent of semi-moist dog foods in the supermarkets. Although competition exists in the market, there are no competitors that distribute dog food in a frozen, all-fresh form in the freezer aisle of the grocery store. There is a threat of new entrants into the market or product substitutions, but because Zenith will be a pioneer in the field of frozen dog foods, only time and succession would be able to determine what companies...

...Zarbo Engl 1121 13 Prof. Huebner Gloege Research Paper Draft 2 The Myths of Bully Breeds There is reason to believe that the bully breeds should be banned in America. Bully breeds are a category of dogs that consist of Bulldogs, Boxers Mastiffs, ect. I believe this opinion is unjust and completely ridiculous. The many breeds that fall into this category are many of the most popular breeds owned in homes across the country. These loving and loyal dogs are trying to escape the shadow of a bad reputation. In ancient Greece, the first category of bully breed was created. These strong headed dogs were called Molossers (Hart). Molossers are the ancestors of all bully breed dogs. They were larger dogs with thick muscular bodies, short necks and legs, medium sized diamond shaped ears, and short snouts (noses). Molossers were used for every day house guarding, livestock protection and also bull baiting. During bull baiting the dog would lay low to the ground, then when it had a clear shot, the dog would jump up and bite the bulls nose. The nose is the sensitive part of the bull. The bull would whip its head around and try to get the dog to let go. Many dogs were severely injured with broken bones and concussions but most dogs were killed. People back in this time found this amusing. Since the Molossers were used for bull baiting this is how they got the name “Bully Breeds.” The average dog in the category Bully Breeds, are larger dogs, although there are a few exceptions such...
