YOUTH VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS

According to the Center for Disease Control there are different forms of violence. These include bullying, fighting, use of weapons, gang violence and electronic aggression. What classifies any of these as school violence is when is occurs on school property, on the way to or from school, at a school sponsored event or on the way to or from a school sponsored event. Youth violence includes persons between the ages of 10 and 24, although pathways can begin in early childhood. There are many different aspects that have been attributed to the cause of violence in our schools. One such aspect is the deterioration of social and economic conditions. Families have not been trained to cope with the problems associated with easy access to weapons, illegal drugs and alcohol. These three things combined with the exposure to video games, television and music that are obsessed with violence have presented parents with an astronomical challenge. First and foremost it is the parents responsibility to provide their children with non-violent problem resolution. Research has identified violence to be a learned behavior. There are several contributors to these learned behaviors, such as the frequent witnessing or experiencing violence in the home or local community, drug and alcohol abuse, and exposure to media depicting violence. “By not monitoring children’s behavior, and by not showing children how to replace aggression with constructive behaviors, parents send the indirect message that it’s OK to use aggressive behavior to get what they want.” By not showing our children that it is wrong to use aggressive behavior we are telling them that they can do what they want to whomever they want. If parents do not show their children how to behave then that leaves it to someone else to do it for them. In most cases this falls on television or even

Marxist theory was based on the writings of Karl Marx in 1818-1889. Marxists believe that we are socialized into a traditional gender, working role. This benefits the Bourgeoisie, ruling class who seek to own the means of production and impose a state of false class consciousness on the working class through ruling ideology. They believe certain cultures have negative impacts on society. Marxists believe one type of culture that has a negative impact on society is mass culture. Mass culture creates an unthinking, uncritical working class. This is shown in item A as it says "dumbing down", this suggests a lower quality of products is made as they are massed produced as they look inferior because they will have little value and are short lived compared to high culture products. This makes the working class feel content within their social positions so a lower quality of culture is created. The lower quality offers easy pleasure from its simplified types, therefore it stops people appreciating more complex forms of culture. As a young scholar, Kant was sent to Collegium Fredericianum before attending the University of Konigsberg by the age of 16. ...People Don't Know “People don't know what they want, they just want what they know,” some people say. It sounds biased, and even ignorant; given the right prodding, there's consumers that are willing to try something new, as they are tired of the same old products. It is true though, that most consumers prefer what they know to something new. I myself am guilty of this; every time I go out to buy my video games, music, and even books I find myself attracted to the series and artists I have experience with, rather than the unknown. Sadly, I think this is because the market is so condensed, there is a lack of quality in the final products. Songs like Rebecca Black's Friday, movies like the Twilight Saga, books like E.L. James' Fifty Shades series, and games like the infamous Duke Nukem Forever can close the minds of even the most open-minded consumers, forcing them to remain enslaved to products they are already familiar with. I'm going to use myself as an example, to prove why this is sadly true. I've been playing video games since I'm four. I've owned no less than six consoles; the Sega Genesis, the Nintendo 64, Nintendo Gamecube, an original Xbox, a Playstation 2, and an Xbox 360, along with several handheld consoles, as well as my computer. The amount of games I used to play and buy on each console is incredibly different: on my Genesis, I owned at least 24; my N64 and Gamecube both had 20-25 games, and my Xbox and Playstation 2 both had five and six games (admittedly though...

...Sophocles' Oedipus is a perfect fit to Aristotle's Ideal Tragic Hero. Oedipus follows all of the rules, with a hamartia, an anagnorisis, and a peripeteia. The audience is introduced to the hamartia, or tragic flaw, of Oedipus early in the play. Oedipus believes he can dodge the oracle given to him at Delphi that he will kill his father and marry his mother. By leaving the city of Corinth and heading to Thebes, Oedipus thinks that he can outsmart the will that the gods have for him. However, the audience knows that one cannot run away from an oracle. The oracle will come true no matter what is done. Therefore, the hamartia of Oedipus is his belief that he can evade his oracle. Oedipus' anagnorisis, recognition, later comes when he is told that it was he who killed the former King Lauis and that he is, in fact, now married to his own mother. The city of Thebes had been searching for King Lauis' murderer in order to drive him out of Thebes to save the city from the plague. With this anagnorisis Oedipus is finally led to his peripeteia, or downfall. First of all, Oedipus is put to shame in front of his entire city because of his incestuous act of marrying his mother.
