DreamWorks Studios has done a great job in the movie industry. With their most popular movies consisting of animated children’s films, there’s no wonder as to why those types of movies do the best. Even though children’s films are aimed at kids, anyone can watch them. You can be a kid, a teenager, or an adult, the movie would be entertaining and appropriate to all ages. Unlike movies aimed for a more mature audience, a kid couldn’t watch all parts of it as it would be inappropriate for them, or the movie would not be entertaining enough for a kid. This is why DreamWorks’ best selling movies are ones that are animated and aimed towards a young audience, with popular titles like How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek, and of course, Madagascar. The …show more content…
Let’s start with the first one, are the characters likable? DreamWorks did pretty good when it came to designing their characters. They made the characters look friendly in the way they designed them. Take Alex, for example, in real life, lions can be pretty frightening and ferocious, but in the movie they made him look nice and kind, like he wouldn’t hurt anyone. DreamWorks didn’t give Alex big claws, teeth, or an angry look in his eyes, unless they wanted him to have those traits. They also did well in the personality part of each character: Marty being a jokester, Alex being the egotistic one of the bunch, Gloria being confident with herself and kind of the babysitter so the boys don’t get in trouble, and Melman being the one that is always too cautious and can overreact, but all still being the type of friends to each other that everyone wants: Joking around with one another, singing and dancing together, and caring about each other. Just look at how Alex, Gloria, and Melman run after Marty when they realize he left them and could get in trouble, or when they fall off the ship and the tide takes them in different directions and they all yell for each other saying, “come back, don’t leave me!” What about when Alex locks himself away? The other three could just get on the boat and let Alex get help from what they thought were the humans coming to save …show more content…
Is Madagascar pleasant to any age of viewer? Well we know kids love it or should love it . DreamWorks got the song the lemurs sing stuck in every 6-year old’s head, “I like to move it, move it. I like to move it, move it. I like to move it, move it. You like to, move it.” What about a slightly older audience, though? Would teenagers or adults find Madagascar enjoyable enough to keep their interest? Sure, the songs and jokes were entertaining enough to make the older audience laugh, too. And they actually had some extra jokes in there that would be a little less appropriate for kids or that kids may miss. Take for example, when Marty and Alex realize that they both landed on the same island after falling off the ship, Alex starts to run at Marty. Marty thinks he is happy at first, but then realizes Alex is mad at him and wants to fight him. Marty starts to turn around and as he does, he yells something that kids wouldn’t put together but maybe adults would. He yells, “Oh sugar-honey-iced-tea!” Since a word like that would be inappropriate for kids they still added it just in a different way that adults could catch. Not all jokes for adults were inappropriate, though; in a scene where the four friends first meet the lemurs, the lemurs say, “And just where are you giants from?” and Alex answers, “We are from New York.” The lemurs then go on to joke that they are the New York Giants, the football

Dreams

...The average amount a human will sleep in their lifetime is 229,961 hours. Part of those 229,961 hours sleeping is spent dreaming. What are dreams? This question has fascinated the human race throughout history. From the Ancient Greeks and Romans, to Sigmund Freud in the late 1800’s, till now, people have queried what the mystical stories that play out in the sleeping mind are and why we have them. The Sumerians in Mesopotamia left evidence of dreams dating back to 3100 BC. According to these stories, gods and kings, like the 7th century BC scholar-king Assurbanipal, paid close attention to dreams. In his archive of clay tablets, some accounts of the story of the legendary king Gilgamesh were found (Seligman). The Mesopotamians believed that the soul, or some part of it, moves out from the body of the sleeping person and actually visits the places and people the dreamer sees in their sleep. Sometimes the god of dreams is said to carry the dreamer. Babylonians and Assyrians divided dreams into "good," which were sent by the gods, and "bad," sent by demons. They also believed that their dreams were omens and prophecies. In ancient Egypt, as far back as 2000 BC, the Egyptians wrote down their dreams on papyrus. People with vivid and significant dreams were thought blessed and were considered special. Ancient Egyptians believed that dreams were like oracles, bringing messages from the gods. They thought that the best way to receive divine revelation was through dreaming...

Identify the impact of the change episode upon the key resources and core competencies of your organisation. This paper will analyse a recent period of strategic change at The Walt Disney Company which began in 2005 with the appointment of current CEO Robert Iger. The company began to experience halted growth during the late 1990s. The former CEO Michael Eisner had been successful himself in the late 1980s in changing the company during what is known as the Disney Renaissance. Eisner successfully concentrated the company’s energy back into producing animated films and helped the company to create now-classic names such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin and others. However starting in 1999 share prices began to fall as changes in Disney’s competitive environment, consumer preferences and technology combined to alter its strategic context – which posed problems for the company in aligning its strategic objectives with its organisational structure and culture. Eisner was well known for his micromanagement and top down approach to management (Gunther, 1999), which served the company well during the 1990s when he could focus on single brands. The production of animated feature films...
