Abstract: Effects of heating on some quality characteristics of date seed oil from two cultivars (Deglet Nour and Allig) has been investigated using an accelerated test in a Rancimat system. Fatty acid, viscosity, absorptivity at 232 and 270 nm, colour and total melting enthalpy of Deglet Nour seed oil were less changed compared to that of Allig seed oil, because the former contained a higher amount of total phenolic compounds (526 µg/g against 215 µg/g) and a lower content of unsaturated fatty acids. Intro; In the early 2000’s Toshiba and Sony, two tech giants went head to head to provide homes with the next generation of high definition video. Toshiba’s new technology was called HD-DVD and was compatible with the old technology, DVD. Sony released Blu-Ray which required a new playing system altogether. After both companies had secured major contracts in the entertainment industry there was one moment that helped Sony to become the dominant product. Time Warner, formerly in alliance with Toshiba, switched to Sony prompting other undecided companies, including Walmart and Netflix, to follow suite. After this the tech war was effectively over and Toshiba ceased production of HD-DVD’s and components. ...As the summer of 1999 began, Julie Robins, the chief investment officer of the Angel Foundation, was considering whether to invest in Accel Partners’latest venture capital fund – Accel Partners VII. Accel was seeking to raise $500 million. The Angel Foundation had been a limited partner (investor) in Accel’s previous three funds – Accel Partners IV, V, and VI. Those funds had generated returns well above those typical for venture capital funds. In fact, the net returns to limited partners on Accel Partners IV and V were running above 100% per year. Exhibit 1 provides a recent record of historical returns for venture capital funds by vintage year. While 100% plus returns were obviously spectacular, Julie was concerned that Accel had decided to raise the fees it would charge its limited partners. In its previous fund, Accel had charged a management fee of 2.5% and a carried interest (or profit share) of 25%. This already exceeded the industry standard of 2.5% and 20%. In Accel Partners VII, Accel proposed to raise the carried interest to 30% of profits. James W. Bets are placed on new products with the hope that a few winners will compensate for the many losers. At best, sophisticated selection procedures impose a certain discipline and provide guidance for containing costly errors. The research that we have conducted yields a more nuanced view. Innovation, we have found, becomes manageable when managers move away from universalistic prescriptions and recognise that different rules and practices apply in different contexts. Our main argument is that both executives and public officials need to learn from the new realities of innovation. Instead of being a uniform process, innovation takes place in seven distinct ‘games’, focusing on market creation, market maintenance and innovator support. Rules for managing innovation are neither generic best practices that can be applied universally, nor narrow industry-specific recipes. Instead, distinct contexts call for specific strategies and rules to create and capture market value. Thus, innovation games are not predetermined sets of rules but leave ample room for creative competition and collaboration.
