In the United Stated interest rates have gone up and down like a roll coaster ride. As a group of reporters, we have investigated some factor of the U.S. economy, weather it will continue to improve or go downward. An interest rate is a factor that we have identified as a consequence on the current state of economy the United States. The Federal Reserve has to conduct the monetary policy in order to achieve the maximum employment, moderate long-term interest rate to stable the economy.
In the United Stated the interest rates vary, this would depend on what is being assessed. A home mortgage rates have lowered ever since the financial crises in 2007. Home mortgages are as low as 3.4% in some regions. The Federal Reserve indicated they were going to take steps to stimulate growth in the job market if it does not show any improvement. An Interest Rate is defined as “an amount charged, expressed as a percentage of principal, by a lender to a borrower for the use of assets. “("Investopedia", 2013). Interest rates are paid along with the monthly payments or it can be paid all at once as well as at the beginning or end of the loan. The Federal Reserve sets the national interest rate, which guides the country through inflation then to recession. Then they adjust the interest rate to try and/or control either phases. The Federal Reserve is coordinating with U.S authorities to pump money into the economy, which will bring a lot of assets.

This information will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of the current fiscal policy recommendations using the Keynesian and Classical model perspectives. The United States have ridden this wild ride of the economy for years, this makes understanding the current status that much more important to know where it will lead. Economic Critique

...Economic Critique ECO/372 October 28, 2013 Economic Critique The current state of the economy is in question by the United States population. Unemployment, expectations, consumer income, and interest rate are the topics important to consumers and businesses. Understanding each area will allow to understand the state of the economy today. Unemployment Unemployment is part of the economy that the United States government has been working on getting lowered. Within a one month period there has been little change. “The unemployment rate in the United States decreased to 7.2% in September 2013 from 7.3% in August 2013” (Trading Economics, 2013). The change of the long-term unemployed individuals had very little change at 4.1 million, accounting for 36.9% of the unemployed. The effect of the long-term unemployment creates a hardship and increased the risk of suicide and potentially shortened life expectancy. The government can assist with unemployment through policies they have in place. Some of the policies that can be implemented are educational advice, schooling and training facilities to prepare for new jobs, provide information on available jobs, incentives and regulations, tax incentives, and aid or grants to overcome specific obstacles. “While direct government intervention is inefficient in reducing unemployment, the government can remove other policies that make it harder for people to find work” (Boundless, 2013). Expectations The current economy for the United...

...Economic Critique ECO/372 University of Phoenix Economic Critique Aggregate supply and demand are two of the most important elements to consider in all of macroeconomic, regardless of which of the many theories or models one applies. Understanding how various economic factors influence supply and demand is very important particularly vital to the government while determining economic policy. Factors like unemployment, expectations, consumer income, and interest rates all have an affect on the aggregate supply and demand. These factors will be discussed from both the Keynesian and Classical macroeconomic perspective. Current State of Unemployment, Expectations, Consumer Income, and Interest Rates Unemployment The unemployment rate has been steadily dropping over time. As of the summer of 2012 the unemployment rate was at 8-1/4 percent, and fell to a little below 8 percent as of January 2013 (Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, 2013).  However, this improvement is still well above unemployment rates pre-recession. Also, a larger portion of the unemployed have been so for six months or longer (Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, 2013). In more recent months according to "Bureau Of Labor Statistics" (2013), “the unemployment rate edged down to 7.4 percent as of July 2013”  (News Release USDL-13-1527 ). Economists try to interpret this information in order to better determine which way government policy should go. According economist, John...

...Game Journal 6 The school of criticism that made the most sense to me was by far the biographical critique. In my opinion the vast majority of the other critiques read as though the author was simply trying to find examples for that particular type of critique where there was probably very little intentioned meaning behind it. Some of the meaning behind the game that was analyzed seemed as though it was forced. The biographical critique, however, analyzes the author’s intent behind the game using quotes from the author himself. This lends more authority to the critique and prevented it from feeling as though meaningless aspects of the game were being critiqued. In the biographical critique for Katamari Damacy the critic uses the author’s own words to describe how the author intended the game to affect his audience. This is information straight from the source and thus allows for the game to be looked at in a new light. The author intended the game’s peaceful, fun, game that is almost devoid of conflict to brighten the lives of everyone that played it and thus make the world better. The critic in a more thorough analysis could then have described whether the game is successful in doing that, and if so by how much. The biographical critique provided the author’s motivations behind making the game. This is a strong basis on which to critique the game. Analyze the author’s intent behind making the game along with how well the game imparts the author’s message. By doing this...

Models Not Critics

...be wrong but my opinion on “Young people need models not critics” still holds. I do however slightly understand when adults want us to know right from wrong, and know to do the right thing. My problem with this is after or in some occasions before they preach to us about being the best we can be, they demonstrate the total opposite. Being part of the younger generation I’m not sure if I’m speaking for myself when I say we don’t need a how to. What we need are people who understand us and who demonstrate the things that they speak upon, rather than pointing fingers and demonstrating the opposite of which they speak. Adults aren’t perfect but if they’re able to critique the actions of the younger generation, they should be able to perform those same things they advised us to do better. Maybe its even better to not critique us, and once we...

...A Book Critique How Markets Fail – The Logic of Economic Calamities John Cassidy BMBA 9202NB Professor Salvatore F. Cordo February 16, 2011 Samir Hadzic Professor Salvatore F. Cordo BMBA 9202NB February 16, 2011 How Markets Fail: The Logic of Economic Calamities In 2009, John Cassidy, noted journalist at The New Yorker published the book, How Markets Fail: The Logic of Economic Calamities. In How Markets Fail, John Cassidy describes what he calls utopian economics and how the utopian thinking has led to economic crisis such as job losses, bank bailouts, and corporate greed. Cassidy attempts to convince that utopian economics does not capture the true behaviors of humanity collectively leading to unanticipated and adverse economic outcomes. He presents the history of economics and contrasts the idea of utopian economics with reality based economics. Reality based economics encompass people’s behaviors and thinking identifying irrational self-interests (Cassidy, 9). Cassidy then explains in detail how economic theory and practice influenced the “Great Crunch” (i.e. collapse in sub-prime mortgage lending during last decade). The timeliness of Cassidy’s publication of a book to address how markets fail is certainly ideal in light of the recent crash in sub-prime mortgages. The financial impact of this economic crisis continues to dictate the pace of the current economy. Not only is the topic stimulating to a graduate MBA student, but has value to...

Critique of Classical Theory & the Rise of Keynesian Theory Classical Economic Theory

...Critique of Classical Theory & The Rise of Keynesian Theory Classical Economic Theory Classical theory of economics states that a free market economy is self-regulating and that with full employment, the economy would reach equilibrium. The classical theory is fundamentally based on the Say's Law which states that "Supply creates its own Demand". This also made the classical economists believe that there was nothing to prevent an economy from growing and hence attaining a state of full employment. This would be achievable as long as employees are willing to work for a wage that was no more than their productivity and in this situation, the profit-seeking businesses would want to employ everyone. According to the Classical economists, full employment of real GDP stays the same regardless of the price level. During a recession or a depression, the aggregate demand in the economy would fall and in the current price levels, consumption reduces and thus there would be an excess of goods in the market. This excess supply would result in the fall of the prices as well as wage rates and hence go back to the state of equilibrium. The Great Depression & critique on the classical economic theory But this theory was proven wrong by the Great Depression as it was seen that when output is below the full employment level, price levels did not fall because wages and resource prices did not fall as they were sticky. In order to have more employees, the employers needed to earn...

This intension might attract some business organizations to produce a creative accounting financial statement to inspire investors investing their funds to the organizations. “Businesses feel the pressure to appear profitable in order to attract investors and resources, but deceptive or fraudulent accounting practices often lead to drastic consequences” (Krantz, 2002, para. 1). In the early 2000s, Congress passed the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) due to the numerous corporate scandals explosions, Enron Corporation was one of the most notable companies to crash. Basically, in 1990s Enron and numbers of publicly-traded companies increase their stock prices by deceptive and publishing false financial statements. In addition, the directors of Enron waived the corporation’s code of ethics in 1999; this action allowed the CFO at that time to manage an investment partnership trading with Enron for illegal profits. By conducting the overstatement of revenue and equity of shareholders; understatement of expenses and liabilities on the financial statements, Enron was committed to the financial fraud. Moreover, Enron was alleged in the events of bribes and kickbacks were being issued from its executives. Hence, SOX was established to safeguard and protect the investors...

Critique of “Production, Information Costs, and Economic Organization”

...Critique of “Production, Information Costs, and Economic Organization” by Armen Alchian and Harold Demsetz Theoretical aspect: What main theoretical contributions does the paper make? / What is the theoretical paradigm it seeks to advance? • This article expounds on classical characterizations of the firm as a centralized, authoritarian entity or concept expected to yield productive outcomes often through autocratic means. Contrary to these characterizations, Alchian and Demsetz argue that the concept of the firm is based on a team-based contractual agent requiring cooperative and voluntary inputs from resource owners and employees (or suppliers), all of whom are input owners, in lieu of an authoritarian relationship between superiors and subjects. The article further explains the team process and why it prompts the necessity for the contractual form, the firm. What are the core assumptions behind the authors’ ideas? • Productivity does not automatically create its own reward. This in fact is reversed, according to Alchian and Demsetz. A particular type of reward stimulates a particular productive response (reward creates productivity.) Understanding this, it is essential, then, to appropriately measure both input productivity and rewards. • Productivity levels and rewards are directly related. The firm, as it is a team-based system of economic organization, will operate best or yield its highest level of productivity when the right rewards are in place to...

We will identify the existing effect of the economic factors on aggregate demand and supply. In addition, we will identify current recommended fiscal policies by government leadership. With this information, we will then evaluate the effectiveness of the current fiscal policy recommendations from both the Keynesian and Classical model perspectives. To better understand what the state of the unemployment situation is in today’s current economy, it was determined that a good place to start was with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) or the U.S. Department of Labor. The first quarter tally of 2013 is not available until February 2, 2013. Therefore, we based our calculations on the data from December 2012. According to the BLS, the definition of the unemployed is, “Persons aged 16 years and older who had no employment during the reference week, were available for work, except for temporary illness, and had made specific efforts to find employment sometime during the 4-week period ending with the referenced week. Persons waiting to be recalled to a job from which they were laid off need not have been looking for work to be classified as unemployed” (US Department of Labor, 2012). What Is Critical Junc

...3.2 God in the Critique of Pure Reason's Transcendental Dialectic 3.2.1 The Ens Realissimum The Transcendental Dialectic's “Ideal of Reason” contains the best known and most frequently anthologized components of Kant's philosophy of religion. In addition to its portrayal of the ens realissimum, one finds within it Kant's objections to the Ontological, Cosmological and Physico-theological (Design) arguments for God's existence. It is thus the text most central to the negative elements of Kant's philosophy of religion and is integral to the widely held view that Kant is deeply hostile to faith. The general aim of the Transcendental Dialectic is to expose reason's excesses, its drive to move beyond the limits of possible experience, and to bring all concepts into a systematic unity under an “unconditioned condition.” The Transcendental Dialectic begins with a critique of reason's illusions and errors within the sphere of Rational Psychology. It then moves on to a critique of cosmological metaphysics, and then to the “Ideal of Reason” where Kant turns to Rational Theology and its pursuit of religious knowledge. As Kant explains, underlying all the traditional proofs for God's existence is the concept of the ens realissimum, the most real being. Reason comes to the idea of this being through the principle that every individuated object is subject to the “principle of complete determination.” While the generality of concepts allow them to be less than fully determined (e.g...
