Assonance happens in poetry and it is the repetition of the sound of a vowel or diphthong in nonrhyming stressed syllables near enough to each other for the echo to be discernible. A lot of singer songwriters use this in their songs to make it sound better. Instead of actually using simple rhymes, these songwriters use words that sound like they rhyme, but they really don’t.
