In Tim Burton's 'Edward Scissorhands' it is evident that the Boggs family's actions are responsible for the banishment of Edward. This is shown through them treating him as an object and disregarding his feelings as well as treating him as if he is capable of taking care of himself.

Throughout the film Edward is treated as an object by the Boggs Family.
This can be shown through many subtle actions and things that the family says.
"Man, those things are cool. You know I bet they're razor sharp. One karate chop to a guy's neck," Kevin said in the movie demonstrating that he is only interested in his scissors. This point is shown clearly again when Kevin states, "can I bring him to show and tell on Monday?" When Kevin interacts with Edward he is treating him as if he is an object, or a pet. This idea is also demonstrated when Bill, the father of the family, says:
"No, no, no. That's a terrible …show more content…
"Shame on you, keeping your unusual guest all to yourself. We think that's mighty selfish of you," she states shortly after. These statements show that the family were indeed secluding Edward in the beginning of the film.

The Boggs family's actions are too carefree regarding Edward.
Again, Peggy is largely responsible for the Boggs family's actions. When Peggy allows Helen to take Edward to the mall, Edward is overwhelmed. Outside the mall, Edward sees Kim and Jim getting into a minivan, the van's door is slammed, which is a symbol throughout the movie for doors being shut and being secluded. Edward has doors (metaphorically and physically) slammed in his face which leads him to feel excluded.
This idea is also touched on when Peggy allows Joyce to take Edward to his new salon in town, where Joyce begins to act irresponsibly towards Edward which in turn makes him run away.
Peggy's actions result in Edward feeling as if he doesn't belong in the

Edward Scissorhands

...Edward Scissorhands directed by Tim Burton is a classic horror theme inspired by the story of Frankenstein, where an evil creature enters into a peaceful community and disrupts the calm. Burton, however, changes the horror genre and on many occasions turns the audience upside down by presenting a mixture of horror, comedy, romance and fairytale. Even before watching the film, a person knows that it is not a complete horror. The advance publicity for Edward Scissorhands used the phrase 'the story of an unfinished gentle man' and posters showed a picture of a gloomily dark Edward with a butterfly resting on one of the sharp blades constituting his hands. Contrasting images such as these show the idea of a mixture of the romance and horror genres. Even without seeing publicity material, the choice of teen favorites Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder for lead roles suggests that this is a film aimed at the teenage kids. A close look at the opening sequence of Edward Scissorhands shows many of the conventions associated with the horror genre but these are offset by elements of comedy and romance. As the credits roll, the music, the graphics (names white on black, making jagged scissor shapes) and the colures of black and white show the relationship with the horror genre. We then see visual images associated with the conventional 'haunted house' (huge door closing, cobwebs, strange gadgets) yet the music becomes lighter, more frivolous and on closer inspection some of the gadgets look...

Edward Scissorhands Character Traits

...An ‘uncommonly gentle man’, Edward, is the main character of the film ‘Edward Scissorhands’. Edward is an unfinished robot who has scissors instead of human-like prosthetic hands. He was built by an inventor who lived in a huge, spooky mansion on the top of a hill. The film ‘Edward Scissorhands’ is about this abnormal man who fell in love with a young woman. Because of Edward’s differences, the people in the community were unable to tolerate him and at last Edward hid into the mansion again. There are few differences Edward had in the film, and the biggest difference he had was that his hands, the scissors, were far more dangerous than human hand because they were sharp. Even though he was a gentle and respectful person, the existence of his scissor hands proved to be incredibly dangerous. No one had ever tried to enter the mansion at the top of the hill until a huge outcast opened the door of the mansion and included him into her family. “Why are you hiding back there? You don't have to hide from me - I'm Peg Boggs, your local Avon representative and I'm as harmless as cherry pie…” Peg took Edward from the dark mansion and introduced the town to him where there were strange colourful houses and lots of people which seemed to excite Edward. Peg...
