Characteristics that indicate effective functioning socially, occupationally, and relationally. As the example shows, effective functioning appears to be a diverse endeavor by the subject and needs to be objectively understood by the observer who is aware of their own subjectivity. Appreciating that descriptions of effective functioning will vary by cultural context. The author proposes that there exists a principal series of questions about individual’s readiness for social, occupational, and relational endeavors.
