Title: Effects of Running PROS

Today I am here to share with you the effects of not taking care of your health. What running and working out daily with the right diet and sleep will do for you. Many people are looking for motivation in a bottle or depend on a buddy. What happens when you buddy cancels out on you repeatly. You need to depend on yourself. You can do this you don’t need someone to motivate you it’s all in your head.
The spirit of this journey lies in you. You are in control of your own journey. I say all of things due to the mental toughness that running takes. There will be times when your body says stop and your mind says go. You will find out inside yourself what you are capable of. Everyone has limits and goals. You will find out what you can do. There is not drink or gym that will make you motivate yourself to workout unless you do it. Running is hard but it’s mind over body once you train and prepare your body.
I do realize the mind and body doesn’t work hand and at times. That’s why you are going to condition yourself to achieve that goal. The input will be hard at first to get into the mode of a healthy lifestyle.
On the other side the rewards of a health body are worth more than the struggles to get there. Starting today is the time NOW! Don’t wait for tomorrow and yesterday has come and gone – START RIGHT NOW. In my view running is the best cardio you can do. Running with the proper diet will get you the fastest and best results.
Let’s discuss starting day 1. You will need to do out and get a pair of running shoes that works for you.
Being cheap and saving money on a pair of shoes is not always the best. Many times cheap is not going feel right on your feet. Or shoes that look great hurt. When you’re in that moment of your Try on several pairs remember these two feet hold up the whole frame of your body. Look at the shoes as shock absorbers and pillow of cushion. You will know the difference when you start running and you get a huge blister on the back of your one of your toes. I work with several people run in shoes they got some a yard sale in the 1980’s. I always tell them you will pay for cheap in the end. The coolest looking shoes don’t give you any advantage if they don’t feel right. One of my co-workers thinking that it would give some huge advantage found out the hard way. Nothing makes up for blood, sweat, and tears. A great pair of shoes is only one the things that will help you. It doesn’t buy instant work on the road to getting yourself to a comfortable pace to running.
Very painful and not the way you want to start off on your goal to a healthy lifestyle. Once you find the right shoes for you. The next thing you need is get running socks. Look for actually sheer thin socks. This will help you from getting a blister too. Thick cushy socks will bend up in your sock and cause the blisters to start forming. Like I mentioned earlier cheap is not always good. So many times I have talked to people about buying shoes. Most people want to go for the cheap shoes that look great. Comfort is you ally and you are going to support your frame why wouldn’t you want comfort. Don’t wait till your 6 miles into the start of your training to find out the hard way. Great Shoes and socks are key I repeat.
Now that you have gone through the process of selecting the foot wear. Clothing is the next option depending where you live is what you wear. Warm and light wear loose fitting. Some of prefer to be cool running. I prefer both to look great is feeling great. I actually like to start off with layers I like to run hot at first than usually pull off layers. After that I go into cool down mode and feel the most comfortable. I like the Nike Combat Wear very light, but keep you warm and cool at the same time.
Having a comfortable body temp is comfortable. I remember growing up and every adult would tell you to put a jacket on. Was that really the wise choice were you getting sick from less clothing or over? heated? On a side note for years I have always walked out quick to do something barefooted and ran back in the house. Another Mom thing it’s wet outside put shoes on your going to get sick. Is that really true
I never remember getting sick walking on the wet driveway with no shoes. Switching topic on adding equipment to your journey for running. I recommend getting GPS tracker so you can track your progression how far you are running. Once again a huge market of never ending products of device when it’s come to picking a GPS. I use the Nike+ TomTom simple and it works great. I found when I started to run I wanted to know how far I was going. It’s kind of of mental thing for me to take a look at my watch every so often to get my stats. The nice things about the Nike+ TomTom the software is great lots of details once you load on to the site. Where you have run and all the details of your runs. It has the time and places. You can set up your own goals. When I first started to run earlier this year it helped me get over the hump. There is a detailed grid of where you have been. Looking to see where you have run can keep you motivated. . Places to run well for one where it is safe. I like to run in the open busy area or by the ocean. I have run courses that I have driven several times. It’s amazing what you notice when your closer to the street/road. Day of your run to your first week of running you want to keep it short depending on how you feel. Make a goal a mile then every week add a ½ mile or 1 mile. Make it fun and challenging. Create your own motivation from a start point to an end point. You control the flow where and when you run. Remember to stretch and drink water up to hours of your run when possible.
Look at your body as a car it needs fuel, and tires. Your Body is the same be nice to it. Take care it give it what it needs to run smoothly and efficiently. Decide what your ultimate goal is going to be. 5 days a week is a great start. You will find out that the more you run the easier it will get over time. I run with music some people love the silence.
Get a music player: MP3, IPOD, or whatever works for you. The best player is the IPOD easy, lots of choices and you can purchase them all over. With Apple taking over the world most of do enjoy the IPOD. ITunes for the software you can create playlist for yourself. Depending on what motivates you. The IPod has a great battery life. I have been trying out the MOTACTV with has everything in it: music, GPS, Heart monitor, wireless Bluetooth head set. The drawback is the battery is killed by all these devices going on at the same time. You’re probably looking at a fully charged rate use of 1 hour 15 minutes.
Ok so let’s do a recap: shoes, clothing, GPS watch, IPOD, and a place to start running. Eating try to stay away from coffee, milk products, and heavy food. Eat bagels which are great running food. Some fruit or something too filling. Drink lots of water. If I do go on a run longer than 4 miles I usually have a water belt on. Stay away from acid type fruits. You’ll just to see what your body feels comfortable with. It’s different for everyone. They say that runners are these different types of animals. I feel they are elite bunch of sizes and shapes. You don’t have to be super lean or skinny to be a great runner. It’s all mental and body mechanics. When I run I usually get in the zones a few miles later and go into this deep though. Everybody walks but to run you have to do better than that. What inspires each and every one of us?
Every one of us inside is something different. Just from my own experiences that it everything needs to line up.
Many times people use the excuse of what they use to be instead of what they can be today. We are all fighting age and it’s hard. Go out there give it your best. Things to add once you have started running.
After a few weeks and during you will be sore pace yourself. Just remember how you got here and what are your goals to push yourself further? Keeping your body healthy and your mind are mandatory to living a quality life. Looking back in time we are living a better life and longer. If we can all just stay away from fast food. Modern medicine is playing a role of helping us. There is no better weight loss program if you’re eating right and running with the right amount of rest you are on your way. They say that runners high is addicting. I am here to tell you it is so true. It just takes you and pushed you. When you get into the zone you can keep going if everything is working. Never give up on your goal to running and you can do it. Many of us give up before we try. Failure is not falling down but refusing to get back up.

The Effects of Running on the Brain

...Exercise has been touted to do everything from treat depression to improve memory, with the power to cure a host of problems while preventing even more. In particular, exercise leads to the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain that alleviate pain, both physical and mental. Additionally, it is one of the few ways scientists have found to generate new neurons. Much of the research done in this area has focused on running, but all types of aerobic exercise provide benefits. Although the exact nature of these benefits is still being determined, enough research has been done to provide even skeptics with a motivation to take up exercise. Exercise exerts its effects on the brain through several mechanisms, including neurogenesis, mood enhancement, and endorphin release. This paper not only examines how these mechanisms improve cognitive functioning and elevate mood states, but also proposes potential directions for future research. Furthermore, it provides an explanation for exercise's generally non-habit forming nature, despite effects on the reward centers of the brain that mimic those of highly addictive drugs like morphine. One of the most exciting changes that exercise causes is neurogenesis, or the creation of new neurons. The new neurons are created in the hippocampus, the center of learning and memory in the brain (1), however the exact mechanism behind this neurogenesis is still being explored. At a cellular level, it is possible that the mild stress generated...

The Effects Of Red-Light Running Violations

...Most studies have shown that the most effective tool to enforce red-light running violations is installing cameras. Such countermeasures reduce injury oriented crashes by approximately 25-30% [Retting and Kyrychenko, 2002] and overall violations by approximately 40% [Retting, Ulmer and Williams, 1999]. Hieatt [2011] showed that in 2008 through 2009, the city of Virginia Beach installed RLCs at thirteen intersections to improve safety. In 2010, the total number of accidents per year at these locations had decreased by 24%. In addition to safety issues, studies such as Porter and England [2000], which analyzed actual traffic volume per light cycle data and their corresponding red-light running rates from two urban intersections, show that red-light running activities also exert pressure on traffic volumes at intersections that result in congestion....

During his escape, Farquhar sees everything in grave detail, he sees insects as if he is looking at them under a microscope, and he sees the gun man’s eye color, he even describes them to the readers. Ambrose uses foreshadowing and literary techniques to create a shock effect in “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” and leads readers to a surprise resolution in the short story. Bierce uses Farquhar’s detailed vision, neck pain, and Farquhar running and running down a long drive trying to get to his home to foreshadow what’s actually happening. Peyton‘s detailed vision foreshadows him being in a dreamlike trance because he was just hanged and he is dreaming about his surroundings and what would happen if he escaped. Why Is Too Much Running Bad For The Body

...It is a common myth across the globe that too much running is bad for the human body. But is this true? Is there a specific amount of mileage that is the best? By knowing how much running is good for one’s health and how it actually benefits the body, could this help people live longer and keep them healthier? Some believe that too much running is actually bad for the body and has different effects than intended. Still others state that running, no matter the amount, is good for you. However, there is only one right answer. As a result of running too much, the intended good effects could cease to exist; because of this, it is imperative to find a “middle-ground” while running. With this in mind, too much running has been proven to be bad for...

Liminting Big Pharma's Power

...Limiting Big Pharma’s Power: Eric Sills Executive Summary This policy brief examines the power dynamic of the pharmaceutical industry with regards to its influence in Washington. By exerting so much influence in the arena where the drug laws are drawn up, discussed, and passed, the pharmaceutical industry, also known as BIG Pharma due to their scope, size, and influence, has negatively affected the consumer in its market, namely the medical patient. The drug industry has done this through lobbying in Washington to keep laws relating to the pharmaceutical market favorable for the drug companies themselves. This brief examines three possible solutions to this problem: lobbying spending and lobbyist limits for pharmaceutical companies, a ban on direct advertisements by pharmaceutical companies, and more transparency and screening before prescribing prescription pain killers. In this analysis, the first alternative represents the best solution to this problem as it has the highest overall potential for benefit and less total cost than the other two possible solutions. Introduction/Background This policy brief examines the pharmaceutical industry and how it has come to gain too much power not only with regards to market power in its industry but also with regards to their influence in Washington. By having this much power, drug companies have negatively affected medical consumers/patients through continued increased prices and a steady decline in innovation. Steps...

Williams University of South Alabama Running head: CANCER PAIN MANAGEMENT Cancer Pain Management Cancer is rapidly becoming a chronic illness, and an estimated that 10 million individuals in the United States are survivors of cancer (Sun, Borneman, Piper, Koczywas, & Ferrell, 2008). According to 2008, cancer statistics from the American Cancer Society, about 2 565,650 people die in the United States from cancer every year. Approximately 1.6 million new cases of cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year (American Cancer Society, 2012). This is why the health care needs of cancer patients are unique, and many are at risk for developing late or long-term side effects and pain from their primary treatments. These long-term effects may also hinder optimal physical, psychological, and cognitive functioning for patients (Sun et al., 2008). Pain is experienced by 30% to 50% of cancer patients receiving treatment and by 70% to 90% of patients with metastatic or advanced disease. In almost every cancer-related case pain is inadequately managed due to a lack of patient and professional knowledge of optimum management (Sun et al., 2008). This paper will discuss how nurses can help provide adequate pain management in advanced cancer patients. Patient and family needs Support for the patient and family may include education and information, coping skills, counseling and psychotherapy...

This includes land, water, and air. Of all the First World countries, the United States is the most polluting nation on Earth. The United States is ranked seventh on pollution control, by only spending 60% of its Gross National Product to help the environment. As a nation we have spent over 120 billions of dollars a year on research and development. The majority of the cost incurred has come from Environmental Quality, our country has consumed over 98 quadrillion Btu of energy in the year 2000 alone. Americans generate five pounds of solid waste every day, creating one ton of solid waste each year. In an average day in the United States, we throw out 200,000 tons of edible food and have thrown 1 million bushels of litter out of our automobiles. The main human contributor for pollution are landfills. It is possible that land pollution can contaminate the air and/or the water. Water pollution is the action of environment contamination...

...Running Head: RESEARCH PROPOSAL 1 Research Proposal: Examining the Effects of Acculturative Stress in Immigrants Christine Kreutzer University of Central Florida Running Head: RESEARCH PROPOSAL 2 Research Proposal: Examining the Effects of Acculturative Stress in Immigrants Objective: This study proposes to examine if acculturative stress experienced by German and Japanese immigrants in the United States results in any long term effects, specifically in terms of mental illness. Stressors associated with immigration have been found to be harmful, and is especially important to examine because of ever rising rates of immigration in the United States. This proposed study will attempt to show any possible long term effects in terms of mental illness. Literature Review: Acculturation is the process by which a member belonging to one culture must adopt the behavior and beliefs of another cultural group. This process is typically experienced by minority immigrants that have to adapt to a dominant culture. This is known as acculturative stress. Acculturative stress occurs in somatic (or biological), psychological, and social forms (Lecture, 2011). ...Treatment Types for Oncologic Pain James Skelton Mercy College of Health Sciences Treatment Types for Oncologic Pain Nearly all those who are diagnosed with cancer will have some kind of pain associated with the disease process. This pain may be visceral, neuropathic, procedural, or psychological in nature. This paper is a discussion of the different procedural guidelines that are currently used by the World Health Organization in the treatment of oncologic pain. This is also a look at alternative therapies that may be used in conjunction with the previously accepted pharmacological treatment of Western medicine. Article Summary One The article written by Fielding, Sanford, and Davis (2013) is a review of the current step-by-step guidelines the WHO has had in place for some time along with a comprehensive assessment of pain, the use of opioids and their adverse affects, the role of adjuvants, and non-pharmacological means of cancer pain treatment. The WHO bases its algorhythm on simplistic, broad categories such as mild, moderate, and severe pain. The article itself is geared towards nurses because they have a unique role in advocating for the patient. The WHO has had a three step analgesic ladder that it has used as a basis for cancer pain treatment for nearly 30 years now. Fielding, et al. (2013), stated that health professionals need to go beyond this three step ladder that focuses primarily on physical pain. Cancer pain is not just a physical but a biopsychosocial...

...The Effect of Compiler Optimizations on Pentium 4 Power Consumption John S. Seng Dean M. Tullsen Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering University of California, San Diego La Jolla, CA 92093-0114 jseng, tullsen @cs.ucsd.edu Abstract This paper examines the effect of compiler optimizations on the energy usage and power consumption of the Intel Pentium 4 processor. We measure the effects of different levels of general optimization and specific optimization. We classify general optimizations as those compiler flags which enable a set of compiler optimizations. Specific optimizations are those which can be enabled and disabled individually. The three specific optimizations we study are loop unrolling, loop vectorization, and function inlining. The binaries used in this study are generated using the Intel C++ compiler, which allows fine-grained control over each of these specific optimizations. ¡   1. Introduction The power consumption of general purpose microprocessors has reached a point where the problem has to be addressed at various levels of system design. Many circuit, architecture, and software algorithm techniques exist to reduce power, but one often overlooked area is the effect of the program code on power consumption. Some research has been done studying the effect of compiler optimizations on power consumption [8, 9]; this work has been generally limited to using architecture-level power models for power estimation. In this work we examine the effect of the compiler...

Computers, televisions, and video games have caused people to live lazy lives. Exercise can have a positive effect on your mind. Exercising can help people with life’s challenges and helps with treating depression because your brain releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins help you have a better mood and helps with relieving stress. Exercising has also been proven to improve a bad attitude. If a person works out they will have a better state of mind. Exercise has been proven to make people sleep more restful and extends your life expectancy. Another reason people might exercise is to get your mind off something or someone. Running is believed to be the best physical exercise of all for the body because when a runner runs they have to use all parts of the body. Running has many positive effects. The heart is an important organ of the human body. When people run, your heart will get stronger and your heart rate will lower. Exercising also strengthens lungs. ...RUNNING HEAD: TERRORIST AND ASSASSINS Effie Cane ENG 122 Sophie Sills February 25, 2013 There is so much that we do not know or understand about terrorism and assassins. Many things that we may never figure out. This is a subject that I never worried about until that grave day on 9/11. This is when it all really hit me. I was 20 years old and I can remember RUNNING HEAD: TERRORIST AND ASSASSINS someone running into my college course screaming, “They have killed them. They flew the planes into the tower. Oh my God1” From that day on I knew that terrorism was real and we had all been affect. It has become one of the scariest things in American life. A lot of us are left wondering when, how, and why after a terrorist attack. It is my belief that most attacks are because of religious beliefs. I also belief that the affects that these attacks have on our society can be over whelming and devastating. It can cause people to loose love ones and suffer for the rest of their lives. In this paper I will attempt to understand what is going on in the mind of a person who commits such acts. I will also take a good look into the lives of the many people that they affect. Even though terrorism and assassination is not something that we worry about on a daily basis, the fact remains that it is very much real and can become a threat at any time.
