The Call of the Wild School is like a jungle, there is no telling where someone will end up. Being at a new place for the first time can be scary and dangerous. One wrong look and someone’s life could be over. Here are a few tips to surviving your first year at Tennessee Tech University. Know where things are located, go to class, and eat healthy and stay active. First, there are quite a few buildings on campus. Knowing what those buildings are called and where they are located would be important information for the first day of classes. You do not want to be the guy that waits till the day of classes running around like a chicken with its head cut off asking everyone where the building is and getting lost; you will end up being late or even missing your first class. If you end up doing that, do not panic by any means. Your RA is so nice enough to leave a campus map on your bed from move in day. Take advantage of that map! It was a life saver to me. It will show you where every building is. Plus you need to know that room numbers go from smallest on the first floor to biggest on the upper. Every hall has its number right before you exit the stairs. That is my word of advice for incoming student’s, please take this advice to the heart. Second tip for the day, go to class! I know, I know you hear it from everybody. But, listen to me when I say it. I do not care if your class has 267 students, go to class. I do not care if your professor tells you, “I will not be taking attendance, and I will have every recording online and all the notes that go with it.” This is a lie! Do not let them fool you. Most of these “wonderful” teachers give extra credit for those who attend the class. For example, my calculus class is like that and I did not go to class on Fridays at all, well she decided to give the people in there extra credit… Also one time I did not go to class and it just so happened that the notes and recording did not work that day so I had no clue how to do the homework assigned to us. I know it is hard, trust me I did it. I did not want to wake up for class at 8 am, nobody does except those nerds that go to bed at 6 pm. It is hard to go to a class right after lunch trust me, I have them. My belly is full and my body is tired, those are the times I hate classes the most. But once again, the teachers do not care that your belly is full or you body is tired, they only care about teaching and if you are not there you do not learn and they fail you; sad face. So, I say it now and I will say it forever, go to class! Last tip from Victoria the wise one, stay healthy. There is this monster that takes over your body and it looks like you might have ate that monster. Yes, the freshman fifth teen is real and it is very common. You may have not even noticed till then end when it is all said and done. The food on campus is good, it is, but it is also very unhealthy and a place where this monster is hiding out. I advise new comers to eat at the cafeteria more than other places. The cafeteria had a wide range of food. They have everything, from spaghetti one day to tortellini the next. The great thing about the cafeteria is that you can have vegetables and fruit with your food. This could make or break someone. Yes, if you eat pizza from the cafeteria everyday you would be eating the monster, but if you eat the vegetables and have good healthy meals there is a great chance you will avoid the monster. Hey, if you want to eat whatever then go ahead. We have this thing called the fit, it is a workout place and they just about every toy you could imagine. You will probably need a workout buddy to stay active because you could both push each other to get better. These workout buddies help the monster to either go away or stay away. Either way the monster lurks anywhere at any time. Keep my advice and you will not have a problem with this nasty guy. In conclusion, there are lots of tips to surviving this place. I only named a few, but the few I chose are very helpful and should be taken quite seriously. There is no need for you to go freaking out about your first year after reading my helpful information. I hope you have a better outlook and more logical one at that about your first year at college. Enjoy the time while it lasts because the year will be over soon and it will be your turn to tell the newbie’s your tips to surviving the first year at college.
