Research Topic with Explanation

...Research Topics with Explanation Sanjip Kumar Sapkota Strayer University ENG215 Adjunct Professor April 22, 2015 Should the minors who commit violent crimes be tried as adults? This topic is imperative topic to discuss and the audience for this topic can be anyone who thinks minors and adults are mentally and physically same. Minors should not be tried as adults because the physical and mental condition of the minors are different than those of adults. The brain of minors is like raw clay that can easily be shaped into any image. So whatever comes to minors mind is an effect of their surroundings, the social and family impacts. According to the Dorothy Otnow Lewis, professor of psychiatry at New York University: ''Kids are being raised by more and more disturbed parents. And what this lack of parenting breeds is misshapen personalities.'' The mind of adults is different than that of minors. The adults have capacity to distinguish wrong and right. The crimes committed by adults and the same nature of crimes committed by minors have different causes in most cases. So the minors should not be tried as adults. Blue Collar vs White Collar Crimes

...Damian McAllister Professor Ahmad Wright Aug 3,2011 ENG215 Proposal BLUE COLLAR CRIME VS WHITE COLLAR There are many different sophisticated crimes that are classified as white collar crimes according to legal precedent. They include, but are not limited to: embezzlement, money laundering, identity theft, credit card fraud, hacking, forgery, and similar crimes. The punishments for the white collar crimes are drastically different as well, often incurring probation or community service in conjunction with high monetary fines instead of focusing solely on incarceration, as is the case with many blue collar crimes. However, with the Bernie Madoff scandal as well as the other recent wall street crimes, more and more white collar criminals are facing stiff criminal penalties that include long periods of incarceration in federal prisons. This is due in large part to the severe societal and economic impact of these crimes as well and the attention brought to these crimes by the media. Have you ever heard the phrase "white collar crime"? No, not just the popular television show airing on the USA network, but the real criminal offense category termed thusly due to the class of people who normally commit the crime. There is a big difference between blue collar and white collar crimes in the United States, from the crime classifications to the punishments thereof. ...

...Persuasive Paper Part 3: Possible Disadvantages, Answers, with Visuals ENG215 Research and Writing Strayer University March 13, 2015 Persuasive Paper Part 3: Possible Disadvantages, Answers, with Visuals Paying students to pass standardized tests has been in the works for a while now. The idea of paying students a financial incentive to pass standardized tests came from families who would give money to their kids if they brought home a report card with good grades. Offering students some type of financial incentive to pass standardized tests would get the students attention. Most students don’t care whether they pass or fail school, offering them money in exchange for scoring high on standardized tests would give students a reason to pay attention and pass standardized tests (Flannery, 2015). Motivating students with a financial incentive is a good way to get them to pass standardized tests (Bettinger, 2008). Problems with Standardized Testing Standardized testing ramped up in 2002 from the No Child Left behind Act. This act was going to hold public schools to a high standard of education, by measuring the students’ scores on statewide standardized tests. The reasons that standardized tests are a problem is from the following reasons: 1. Test scores can’t accurately measure learning: Standardized tests does not allow students to express themselves because they are multiple-choice. Open-ended tests would allow students to express themselves. 2. Standardized...

...School Environment Stewart L. Hanska Strayer University Professor Marta Gierczyk Research and Writing-ENG215 17 October 2011 Abstract Where children live plays a pivotal role on how well a child receives an education. A Problem Exists

...Assignment 3: A Problem Exists Shalonda Green Professor Wheeler ENG215 May 8, 2015 With the new Affordable Healthcare Care Act everybody is required to have some type of medical Insurance. Should taxes on alcohol and tobacco be increased to help pay for rising medical costs? Medical expenses are rising by the year and we need to find out how to get some assistance to pay for these rising cost and alcohol and tobacco is a necessity and people will pay for it regardless. Taxes on alcohol and tobacco should be increased to help to pay for rising medical cost because it would help the middle and lower class, may lower the influence on tobacco and alcohol, and lower copays. The Affordable Care Act expands the affordability, quality, and availability of private and public health insurance through consumer protections, regulations, subsidies, taxes, insurance exchanges, and other reforms. That makes it easier for everyone to get insurance and also makes it mandatory for everyone to get insurance. However, you must obtain and maintain minimum essential coverage throughout the year, get an exemption, or face a tax penalty for each month you go without coverage. Saving Lives: Why All States Should Require Motorcyclists and Passengers to Wear Helmets

...Saving Lives: Why All States Should Require Motorcyclists and Passengers to Wear Helmets By Janeal Pope Assignment 3: A Problem Exist ENG215: Research &Writing Pro. Dorothy J Valentine May 3, 2014 Abstract The impact is horrendous. It feels like I am rolling and tumbling forever. I feel my skin burning from sliding on the pavement; my head was traumatized as I continued to roll before finally coming to a stop. My husband recalls the night of his terrible motorcycle accident. Motorcyclists should be required to wear helmets in all states in order to be consistent, to avoid serious head injuries, and to reduce the amount of deaths due to accidents. Inconsistent The first universal motorcycle helmet law was legislated in 1967, and accepted in all but three states. Currently, half the states require helmets for all motorcyclists. Illinois, Iowa, and New Hampshire are the only states that don’t require motorcyclists to wear helmets (Governors Highway Safety Association, 2014). The federal government has twice enacted universal helmet laws, and then repealed them. In 1976, Congress revoked federal authority to assess penalties for noncompliance and states began to weaken helmet laws to apply, only to young or novice riders (Governors Highway Safety Association, 2014). Thirty-one states have had a universal helmet law repealed (undo law: to officially end the validity of something such as a law). The fact that the law has been repealed on several occasions...

The Effects of Divorce on Children

...The Effects of Divorce on Children ENG215 Research and Writing The Effects of Divorce on Children These days most people accept divorce as a way of life, completely unaware of the damage they are doing to their children. Half of all American children will witness the breakup of a parent’s marriage. Of all children born to married parents, fifty percent of those will experience the divorce of their parents before they graduate from high school. Compared to children from homes disrupted by death, children from divorced homes have more psychological problems and actually the death of a parent is less devastating to a child than the divorce. When children are involved in a divorce, it often leads to a wide variety of problems down the road and not just for the couple divorcing. It is unbelievable how many people get a divorce without looking into what kind of effect it might have on their children. Unfortunately, the traumatic effects of divorce on children stay with them throughout their childhood and continue on into their adult lives. And in most cases, couples find themselves involving their children in divorce which only makes things worse. When you first break the news to your child that you are getting a divorce, their initial reaction might vary from extreme anger, to sadness, to immediately thinking that the breakup is their fault. One of the most damaging effects of divorce on children is the different outlets they turn to in an effort to deal with...

Illegal Immigrants

...Illegal Immigrant children in the United States of America Sinead Golding English Research and Writing (ENG215) Professor Rebecca Kaminsky August 5th 2011 The issue at hand is the amount of Illegal immigrant children in the United States (U.S.) who will soon age out of the foster care system. These children accompany their parents to the U.S leaving behind extended family that under normal circumstances would have been a source of support with regard to childcare, financial assistance, etc...Others come to the United States searching for family that, before having left their home country, had played an active part in their rearing. It’s not until they age out of the foster care system that they become aware of their precarious situation. They are unable to pursue secondary education without financial aid. The children are also unable to obtain a drivers license or apply for employment for lack of required documents. They age out of the foster system and immediately enter the welfare system. If we do not help these children they will end up working illegally and will turn to crime and drugs on the street. Why wouldn’t we help them? They are after all citizens of the United States of America. Some of the children came with their parents and some were even born here! They do not have the legal documents to allow them to live here. The parents did not pursue their children’s rights here in this country out of fear or deportation. They are entitled to all of the...

Assignment 3 a Problem Exists

...Running head: A PROBLEM EXISTS Should the U.S. require all S.S. recipients to have their checks delivered to a bank account rather than by mail? Ada L. Smith Professor McCurdy ENG215 November 11, 2013 The United States government should all require Social Security recipients to receive their checks electronically through a bank account rather than through mail delivery. Approximately 93 percent of S.S. recipients receive their Social Security benefit payments electronically (ssa.gov, 2013). One reason Social Security checks should be delivered electronically to a bank account rather than using mail is it will be beneficial for the government and citizens of the United States financially. According to U.S. Treasurer Rosie Rios, the cost to print a paper check is approximately 92 cents more than by direct deposit (U.S. Treasury, 2013). Eliminating the printing and postage costs of paper checks is estimated to save the federal government and the Social Security trust fund $125 million per year (U.S. Treasury, 2013). Retiring the paper check form of receiving Social Security funds will be the right thing to do for American taxpayers and benefit recipient. This would also be beneficial in increasing security of the United States citizens through the reduction of identity theft and fraud. While starting the process of direct deposit may be a bit of a hassle, it will decrease government cost and spending, reduce risk, increase efficiency, improve transparency...

Hang Up the Phone

...Hang Up: It’s Not Just Your Life Brad Gardner Michael Hunter ENG215 November 4, 2014 Hang up: It's not just your life Although it appears to be a common sense notion, the differences in laws and regulations regarding the use of mobile devices while driving are not the same from state to state. No one person is a better-distracted driver than the next and because of this, all states should have standardized policies regarding the use of mobile devices while driving. Every day we can make a change; make better choices, to make a difference in our lives and the lives of others. We can make a simple choice to hang up our cell phone before getting in our car and driving. We can choose not to accidently run over a young child walking across the street on their way to school due to the distraction of a cell phone. It sounds simple enough to do; yet, every second, someone decides to take that child's life. They decide that it is more important to answer their phone or reply to a text while driving over the wellbeing of others. Distracted driving and its repercussions have been a growing concern since the first-day drivers began using mobile devices. The first cellular phones became available for consumer use in the mid-80s. Widespread use was not marked for almost another decade. In the early 90s, less than 4.5 million people used cell phones. Over the last 15 or so years the population of cell phone users has spiked to over 230 million, according to statistics from the Insurance Information...

Fanning the Home Fires: Raising Awareness and Caring for Military Kids & Families

...ENG215 Caroline Lusk Full-length Article – Final Fanning the Home Fires: Raising Awareness and Caring for military kids & families During my husband’s career, my family and I have visited several military installations: Camp Shelby, Mississippi, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania, and Fort Dix, New Jersey to name a few. If you have never visited an Army base, it’s quite an experience. In some respects, it’s not much different than many middle-income towns in America, but in other ways, it’s very different. The people you meet there feel like family somehow. They, like you, are aware that if you are on the base, shopping or in the grocery store that it’s likely you or someone in your family may be faced with the same uncertain but inevitable struggle; coping with the deployment of a family member. Education, teaching coping strategies and connecting families and service personnel to the available resource has been a top initiative of the US Armed Forces in the past 5 years. With the increased dependency upon Reserve and National Guard components to supplement force strength, an unprecedented burden has been placed on the American family. For those individuals who are actively serving as a part-time soldier, deployments mean separation, family hardship and leaving their ordinary everyday lives to serve their Country. In my case, my husband Mark serves as a Sergeant in the Pennsylvania National Guard as a tank commander. He has been...
