Taking Introduction to Engineering 160, my ultimate goal is to explore and have an in-depth understanding of what an engineer does. At the beginning of this semester, I was skeptical and afraid of my decision to take this class because never in my life had I taken any engineering courses. However, as the course went by, I started to recognize that engineering was a fundamental subject and was connected to almost every other major in some ways. This realization has established a stronger foundation for my decision of being an engineer. Being crowded with more than one hundred majors and the tension of what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, deciding a major in college at the age of eighteen was not favorable and more strenuous than it should be. This false belief has created a barrier between myself and engineering, which prevented me from considering engineering as a major in the first place. However, at this point, I approach engineering with an entirely different mindset, a more opening and welcoming one. As I understand what engineering is, I start to appreciate it and often find myself reading engineering related articles almost everyday as a habit. To put it more accurately, I have been reading them since before college yet hardly did I realize they were somehow linked to engineering prior to this course. I also find the challenges of designing and fabricating in lab somehow intriguing. There were numerous little problems that kept appearing during the fabrication process because I did not take into account all of them during the design process. However, this project was designed as a team problem and thus was more complicated so that it could test our teamwork.
