Colour research

Our emotions influence our perception of colour and vice versa. Colour’s meaning can change over time with fashion changing social attitudes and also familiarity. Colour’s most important function is to produce information both visually and psychologically. It is important to note however, that it can also create opposing reactions. The artist or designer much try their best to control what the viewer perceives. This influence allows the designer or artist to impart their message effectively. It is important to remember that majority of the time colour is seen by the viewer before the actual image. This information allowed me to think in a more critical way and also made me think about how I can use significant colours to evoke a certain response.

Red

Red is one of my favourite colours as I feel l gain the most emotional impact from. I find it interesting how I am affected in a physical way for example when I feel warmer wrapped up in a red blanket rather than another colour. The possible double meaning and strength is also appealing to me. Being the lowest wavelength, red is a powerful colour. It has the property of appearing to be nearer to be closer than it actually is therefore grabbing your attention. For this reason, it is the most used colour for traffic lights and signs around the world. It’s affects are actually physical and it has been proven in research to raise the pulse rate in people, giving the impression that time is passing quicker. It can activate the basic instinct of flight or fight in the body stimulating adrenalin. Red has also been associated with anger which can cause irritability in some people.

Purple

This is another one of my favourite colours as it represents my spiritual side. I like how it combines aspects of red – dynamic and active – as well as blue – cooling and calming – coming

Understanding reasons or explanations for things I never noticed in my language makes me feel more intelligent. Dissecting the words I speak and connecting with what I am actually saying is a powerful feeling. Being able to properly utilize English helps me grow as a student in the English language. My first role is that of an English student. Growing up, I always had English teachers that were phenomenal at explaining this complicated language. I always appreciated writing and at one point I really wanted to be an author. Unfortunately, my passion for writing has died down since then but every once in awhile, when I write a good paper, that feeling comes back. Having a colorful imagination has helped me express my ideas through writing. Punctuation has always been the one thing that I hated because I always felt like it got in...

Philippine Englishes

...English and Englishes in the Philippines: A World Englishes Approach to MTBMLE Isabel Pefianco Martin, Ateneo de Manila University Abstract ! In the past two years since DepEd Order 74 (series 2009) was implemented, teacher training sessions have been conducted that focussed on the development of teaching strategies and the preparation of instructional materials for teaching in multilingual settings. One area of utmost concern among basic education teachers, and often a source of anxiety to both teachers and parents, is how to approach the teaching of English using the first language (L1). This presentation hopes to address these concerns by proposing a World Englishes (WE) approach to English language teaching (ELT) in the Philippines. Introduction ! Just recently, a college freshman who interviewed me for his research paper on mother-tongue based multilingual education (MTBMLE) asked why I supported its promotion even it meant possibly losing my job as an English teacher. The question did not surprise me as it was something that I often encountered whenever teachers, especially English teachers in Metro Manila, are confronted with this unfamiliar creature that is MTBMLE. ! To many stakeholders of the English language--lawmakers, school administrators, teachers, and parents--MTBMLE is perceived as a threat. It is specifically perceived to be anti-English. These perceptions may be traced to beliefs about English that may largely be considered as...

Composition Paper

...My Writing Knowledge While looking over the material for this paper my first thought was I’m hungry. This is probably not a typical thought when trying to prepare an English paper. However, it gave me an interesting thought. Writing a paper is like making a cheeseburger. Aside from my cheeseburger idea I also attended a college preparatory high school and have also taken other English courses while in the Marine Corps. To make a cheeseburger you start off with the bottom bun. This is the introductory paragraph of your paper. The outside bottom of the bun is plain bread which is general, and this is the first sentence of your introductory paragraph. Moving up the bun it becomes more specific by either frying it, adding butter or mayonnaise. You make the rest of the paragraph more specific to lead into the following paragraph. The next paragraph is the first piece of meat. In relation to writing a paper this is your first main topic, a bold statement that the writer is trying to get across to the reader. This paragraph must contain the information gathered from research. Paraphrasing is a good way to incorporate your knowledge and understanding of the research and in doing this it explains the topic to the reader. The third paragraph is the cheese of the cheeseburger. This is a good place to add the details and quotes of the research to the paper. When using quotes you must cite them correctly to give credit to the author. By using facts and statistics it supports the...

...Cheng Cai Sheila Knight EH100 04/04/12 My English learning experience I was born in a non-English family. I started to learn English when I was in primary school in China. After that, I became gradually interested in this new language and, nowadays, my English level is continuing to improve. From my English learning experience, I have really learned many valuable things. First, it helps me realize not to give up halfway when facing difficulties. Also, it helps me know that I must take everything seriously. Thus, English actually has a significant effect on my life. Studying in the primary school was happy and easy for most of the pupils. For me, it was different. When I heard that I had to learn English in primary school, I was surprised and a little frightened. I was just a Chinese boy and I did not know the knowledge of reading and writing in Chinese very well. How could I learn a new foreign language? I still remember my first English class, and it was really a great challenge for me. In the class, the teacher taught us to say "Good morning" and "Good afternoon." At first, the teacher read the words slowly, and I knew how to pronounce them. Then the teacher asked us to read the sentences one by one, but I suddenly felt nervous and forgot how to read them. When it was my turn, I just read them ambiguously. After class, I felt ashamed, and I did not have confidence to learn English anymore. When I came home and told my mother what had happened, she encouraged me and...

Essays in Engish

...Essays in English can be really bothersome for students from Western and Eastern Europe, South American and Eastern countries, and basically for all students, who do not posses good command of the English language. Undoubtedly, extracurricular classes may be taken to improve the knowledge of English knowledge, both physically attending special course and taking the necessary steps of online learning, which, however, do not guarantee success in writing essays in English. Thousands of students come to our country every year, trying to grasp that basics of the English language and be able to write academic papers in their English, Literature, and other relevant classes in High Schools, Colleges, and Universities, which are, needless to say, essays in English. Sometimes teachers, tutors, and professors do give extra credit to foreigners as they proceed writing their essays in English, but most often such students are neglected, due to their inability to produce high quality Nursing papers, Anthropology papers, Environment essays or researches using appropriate academic style, group projects, and good presentations. In order to cope with this difficult problem, a great variety of custom writing services was created, hoping to cover the gap between the native speakers and, for instance, the exchange students arriving to US in an immense need of better education, who often fail their essays in English. Innovative Writing Assistance Agency is meant to fill in the gap in question, by gently...
