The information in this memorandum will reflect on my progress as a writer in the Technical Report Writing class this semester. This memo will cover my strengths I have gained, and will also cover my weakness’s I need to work on. I have been improving on each assignment, and as you read through this memorandum you’ll understand my progress improvements.

Discussion

Heading (Where You Stand)

At this point in the semester I believe I have improved a great deal compared to the beginning of the semester. I started out kind of rough with the first major assignment. Plus this course being an online makes you become lazy, and not stay on track with assignments. I didn’t plan out my assignments to coordinate with each day …show more content…
After each report I struggle when it comes taking the time to sit down and reread the report to correct the errors. How I plan on correcting this problem is to set the paper down for an hour when I get done writing it. Then after that hour pick it up and reread it to correct the mistakes. This should let my mind become clear, so it can pick out the errors.

Heading (Needs Work #2)

I also struggle with placing quotes and adding paraphrases into the report. One of the main problems I have with quoting something is when I add the quote into the report I don’t introduce it well into it. The paraphrasing is a little better than the quoting but I could still use some improvement. To fix my issues with quoting and paraphrasing I plan on going back into the assignments form the beginning of the semester and redoing some of them to work on quoting and paraphrasing. These practices should help me grab a better understanding on how to integrate the quotes and paraphrases correctly into the reports.

...This is the first english class that feels different compared to all my previous ones, and I like it. Through the first quarter I have learned so much that I haven't been very exposed to before and I like it. For example, the “showing not telling” has been a big influence in understanding what makes a story great and captivating. I’m satisfied with the work i’ve produced, but at the same time I am very eager to achieve more. After this first quarter, I now understand what I’ve done wrong and what I need to do in order to bring my writing to the next level. English 1301 Reflection

...I am currently a junior in the University Of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas. I have attended a small little school in Snyder, Texas called the Western Texas College before coming here, and I have received my associates in Applied Science and Petroleum Technology. I am taking English 1301 for the third time this Summer II course, since English has never been my strongest subject besides the fact that I know it is important to know. At first, I was a bit skeptical about taking English 1301 this summer in an unknown university, but upon entering Ms. Sanchez’s English 1301 class, it opened my eyes. I had a whole new perspective in not only reading, but also on everyday life situations. The first two times I took English 1301, I was not fully understanding the concept of the text I was reading. When walking into class on the first day of school this summer,...

English 101 Reflection

...I took my time reviewing the feedback provided on my first submitted essay for English 101. I noticed several positive areas in my writing. The first area is having the ability to provide readers with good, well placed examples throughout the essay. The second area of strength is grammar. This is an area that can use improvement however, it is at an advancing level. The best part about receiving feedback is being given a chance to learn from a mistake. A few areas I learned I need to focus on improving would be to state a clear and concise thesis statement letting my readers know exactly what my main point is and what to expect in my paper. I also need to avoid using a passive voice. By writing in a passive voice my essay was wordy and at times...

English Reflection

...At the beginning of course English Composition 1, I received grades that were below 90% on each of my writing assignments. However, toward the end of this semester, I turned that around and worked to get better grades. I looked over all the comments that I received on my writing assignments and then I tried to fix those mistakes. My hard work paid off and I began to earn grades in the 90s, and grades that were above 100%. Throughout this semester, I have improved my writing skills and applied those skills to improve my grade in this course, which turned from 81% to 95%. On my first essay that was about self-identification, I earned myself 85%, which was very much unsatisfactory. There were many flaws in my essay that earned me a disappointing...

English Reflection

...I have learned a lot from English 2010 this semester. The writing projects that we were asked to do was very valuable experiences. I learned to write in different styles. I learned to research my subject material, and cite those sources. I learned to manage my time in a way that enabled me to complete all of these projects in a timely manner, while trying to stay on top of my other courses, as well as working around my full-time work schedule. It hasn’t been easy, that’s for sure. There are only so many hours in a day and a week to get those things done that we need to. The assignments that I added to my portfolio were ones that I really liked to work on. It was great to experience a personal interview with an Olympic athlete, and having to find the time to work out an interview with someone whose time is so valuable was a wonderful way to learn about the interview process. I also added my collaborative assignment to my portfolio. This was a harder project to work on because I have never had to write a paper with someone else, let alone with someone that I have never met. I found that being a working student, and having a partner that also works as well as raises a child, it is difficult to find the time to communicate with another party in order to figure out the process that you are going to work through to create a document together. Bottom line…it can be done, and I think that I have a better understanding of what it takes to get this type of task accomplished. Overall...

English Reflection Paper

...This English class required me to focus on four different learning outcomes: writing, reading, researching, and reflecting. The writing learning outcome included creating an effective and flexible writing process to evaluate various rhetorical situations. The reading learning outcome included reading complex sources from a variety of Medias to also evaluate rhetorical situations. The researching learning outcome included searching for print and electronic sources and imply their information to ideas and integrate them into the writing projects. The reflecting learning outcome required me to look back at previous works and decide what changes can be made and how future works will be improved. This English course successfully improved my...

Reflection Essay

...of communication amongst the health care professionals and how a good nursing documentation is an integral part of nursing. It will also demonstrate how reflection enabled me to make sense of and learn from this experience, as well as identify any further learning developments needed to improve my practice and achieve the level of competency needed for when I qualify as an assistant practitioner. While discussing the knowledge underpinning practice, evidence based literature will be reviewed to support my discussion and for the purpose of reflection the essay will be written in the first person. Spouse, J, et al (2008). Jonhs, C (2009) defined reflection as learning through our every day experiences, towards realising one’s vision of desirable practice as a lived reality. He also added that it is a critical and a flexible process of self inquiry and transformation of being and becoming the practitioner you desire to be. However, Ghaye, T et al. (2000) stated that for the health care professionals to develop a more reflective posture, they must fully embrace both the principles and the practices of reflection. It is about becoming more aware of how we learn and how this affects what we think, feel and do. There are different models for reflection; some are more complex and detailed than others. To help me with my reflection, I have chosen Gibbs (1988) reflective cycle as a guide: The names of the patient, staff members and health care setting will be changed to protect...

...Learning through reflection 2 Reflection is an active process whereby the professional can gain an understanding of how historical, social, cultural and personal experiences have contributed to professional knowledge and practice (Wilkinson, 1996). Duffy (2007) believes that reflective practice is an active deliberate process of critically examining practice where an individual is challenged and enabled to undertake the process of self-enquiry to empower the practitioner to realize desirable and effective practice within a reflexive spiral of personal transformation. Learning is derived from experience but it doesn’t just happen. For it to take place you not only need to engage in reflection you must also record it. By thinking about what you are doing and why you are doing it is what turns your experiences into meaningful learning. If you are to become a reflective practitioner you have to use that learning to increase your professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of not only yourself but also to your patients / clients. Why Reflect Reflection is really a process that begins with looking back on a situation, pondering over it, learning from it and then using the new knowledge to help you in future similar situations. Reflection, which is learning through experience, is not a new concept. As humans, we naturally reflect on our surroundings and experiences. However, the conscious, deliberate and ordered process of using reflection as a learning tool...

Third Reflection Paper

...GE 2218 Third Reflection Paper “Write your own script for your play” this is the most impressing point I have learnt form Mr. Ki ‘ s success on his career, which is also the major principle for his career management. In this talk, Mr. Ki shed light on the meaning of success from different perspectives and dimensions. I can tell from his career that he is satisfied with what he did in the past and what he is doing now. There are two essential factors I can draw from his experience, reinvent your career and refine your life. For the points that he raised in this talk, I quite endorsed his unique perception on career that it is divided into three phases. “ Work for success”, “ work for significance” and “ work for legacy”. Apart from myself, I guess most of the people value ones’ success by wealth and positions. Mr. Ki , however, adds to that life structure, purpose, identity and significance. Exemplified by Mr. Ki ‘s career, he retreated from his respected working position just at the prime of his career simply because he wanted to do something meaningful, not only to his life but also to the whole society. So he transfers his prowess to help and engage in social enterprise project. Reinventing one’s career is equally important in a sense that it helps put your career into perspective, and achieve a balance of life, just like what Mr. Ki mentioned, the second career, the parallel career and the social career. Besides, always reflect on you experience as well as have a full...

Reflection on Mentorship Practice

...Examples of Reflective Writing Example 1 I arrived on the ward at 7:30 ready to begin a 12-hour shift. After receiving handover, my mentor assigned me the job of bathing Mr B with the help of a healthcare assistant. Mr B has Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), a progressive disease of the nervous system with rapid deterioration due to spongiform encephalopathy. He is not expected to live to Christmas, even though he is only 19 years old. He is mentally aware of what is going on but is physically unable to demonstrate activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, has limited communication skills and is doubly incontinent. He is unsafe on his feet so mobilises with a wheelchair. I approached Mr B’s bed and asked his consent to take him for a bath. While the bath was running we began helping him to undress. He looked rather nervous. At the thought of myself being in his position, being the same age as him, I began to feel embarrassed too. I thought that I could not possibly be a professional individual if I let my embarrassment and sympathy get in the way of my nursing care. We assisted Mr B into the bath and started his wash. I knew he was uncomfortable and wanted to be able to wash himself, but was unable to do so. I was finding it difficult to look him in the eye, especially when it came to washing his genitalia. I tried to ease this by making conversation, but in a way this made matters worse. After the bath we dried Mr B, dressed him and returned him...

Personal Reflection

...Date: 27th October, 2014 Title: Morrisons breaks pledge on low prices Link: http://www.thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/business/Retail_and_leisure/article1475669.ece The ethical issue was related to credibility of a company. It was about Morrisons the supermarket increased prices of some products marked with “I’m cheaper” sign after promising to cut prices permanently on over 1000 goods six months ago. The supermarket claimed the rise in prices was only a reflection of “commodity inflation” and still “lower than they would have been” without the “I’m Cheaper”cuts. No doubt by increasing the price of goods, the supermarket could compensate the losses from the inflation in supply costs. This do help to maintain profitability of the supermarket and strengthen the confidence of its investors. Also, even though the prices had been raised, they were still lower than the general prices of these goods. The promise of enduring price cut was kept. It was a win-win situation in the eyes of Morrisons. One of the problems arose in this issue was the reputation of Morrisons towards the customers was deeply affected. Although action of increasing the prices due to inflation was justifiable, Morrisons still broke part of its vow of long-lasting price cut. A credibility gap between Morrisons and customers might have been develop as a result. Moreover, the intention of the supermarket was to maintain its profitability while the issue of the news had leaded to a fall in its share price of 0.46...
