You now live in a communistic society where the government is in such control to where it is literally a sin to have a mind of your own. Imagine living in ultimate fear because you are not as dull-witted as all of the other ‘citizens’ in the totalitarianistic society in which you live. This represents Equality’s way of life in the horrific society he has been forced to live in in Anthem, which was written by the controversial writer known as Ayn Rand. Anthem is a story which takes place under the rule of many communist dictators. The council believes that there is no need for technological advancement, any advancement will be the cause of the downfall of their society, which then leads them to put half-brained ‘citizens’ in very high positions …show more content…
He was born with a different stature, and he actually has an idea of what goes on inside the society in which he lives, unlike his brothers and sisters. Equality was given the Life Mandate of street sweeper, but yet duller, less smart kids were given higher roles in the social class. This would not only qualify as bias, but it would also qualify as the Council not allowing someone to be in a higher role in society because they have some sense of individualism. The Council will rule the citizens and give them certain Life Mandates according to their mental ability. The society elects literal stupid people for the upcoming council and gives them higher roles in the society they live in because they do not want them to have any sense of curiosity; They want them to just take on the role of being a council member and live their lives in luxury as they hand out Life Mandates to the citizens that require one, and have no sense of “I wonder why I live the way I do” because the head Council wants everything to be equal throughout this horrible discrepancy of a …show more content…
The council believes that if there were to be any technological advancements that it would be the cause of their societies falling apart. Technology would cause the society to become unequal, and some people would have more knowledge than the others, and in result it would be exactly the opposite of how the council would rather it be. The council wants complete control over everything from how people live their everyday lives to the way people think. The Council is very dictatorial and runs the means of production of every single thing that is included in their society. According to “Mac at 30 timeline: Apple’s every major product”, For all its high profit margins and emphasis on design, Apple played a key role in the democratisation of technology by combining utility with ease of use. The first Mac went on sale 30 years ago today. If that tells us one thing, it should be that this is a revolution which is still very young(Third Paragraph). The council believes that any technological advancements would be the downfall of their society, but I believe that the cause of the downfall of their society would not be technological advancement, but rebellion. I believe that this society would go below operational level because there are always a few kids that will not be like the others. The kids with ‘curses’ who have different features than the others, the ones

Harrison Bergeron And Anthem Comparison Essay

...Compare and Contrast HB+A Aristotle once said “Equality consists in the same treatment of similar persons”(‘World of Quotes”) In Harrison Bergeron by kurt Vonnegut and Anthem by Ayn Rand there are two men who are forced by their government to try to be equal. Wearing heavy weights, and a huge nose to make him look ugly, while Equality 7-2521 is made to work in the home of Street Sweepers. Even though he is smart, he is also prohibited from using the word “I”. So they are both prevented from being individuals. Although Anthem and Harrison Bergeron are both a dystopian society their treatment of family and technology differs. If human thought is suppressed, then society is collapses on itself, “The heads of our brothers bowed, The eyes of are brothers are dull and never do they look one another in the eyes. The shoulders of our brothers are hunched and muscles are drawn, as if their bodies were shrinking and wished to shrink out of sight. And a word steals into our mind as we look upon our brothers, as the word is fear” (Rands 46) This quote illustrate that society is already collapsing on itself. The men are lifeless because the council will not allow them to think for themselves. The societies as well are not able to think for themselves for if they do, the council will punish them.
