Some might think about part time jobs and the income from it as a solution to these hardships which is right, but that is not the only benefit of part time jobs. For years part time jobs have been used as a teaching model preparing students for the real outside world apart from their studies. Beyond the Five Paragraphy Essay

...the University Essay Like many undergraduate students, you are probably aware that university essays should be “different” from high-school essays. However, you may be unclear on what this difference ought to consist of. What, for instance, distinguishes the standard high-school approach to essay-writing, the five paragraph approach, from a university-level approach to essay-writing? This module will guide you through the process of moving beyond the five paragraph essay. | |The Five Paragraph Essay The five-paragraph approach has two major limitations. First, the approach produces extremely simple essays. Second, the approach is very formulaic. The five-paragraph structure can only articulate a very simple form of argument, involving a major claim and three supporting claims. In order to avoid being limited to this argument-form, the student requires the ability to build the structure of an essay around her own ideas. This ability requires an understanding of how the essay works, not knowledge of an essay-writing formula (like the five-paragraph essay). The Essay An essay is a written defense of a position (a thesis) on a topic. A good essay-topic will motivate a line of inquiry that is manageable for the essay-writer. To this end, it is extremely important to ensure that the topic is adequately narrow. A thesis is the concluding point of the line of inquiry motivated by the topic. Thus, a thesis is not a restatement of a topic. The thesis of your essay should be framed...

Americanization

...giving it the most diversity people have seen in a lifetime. Although it is a common misconception, these people are not just looking to live in America for working privileges. Their real desire is to become something that depicts pride and honor, an American. Being an American in a country as diverse as ours means more than just living on American soil, it has endless benefits that allows one to feel free. Unfortunately, the rapid flow of immigrants into America has led to many issues. One of the main ones is the concept of assimilation, which has been disputed for years due to the capacity of the incoming immigrants. Jay Nordlinger, in his essay “Bassackwards: Construction Spanish and Other Signs of the Times” notes that not “everyone who comes to America is dying to melt into the pot”. Yet he stresses, as does Linda Chavez in her essay “Supporting Family Values”, the need for immigrants to assimilate to American culture. These two concepts have been floating around America since the first illegal immigrants started to show up and they’ve been controversial ever since. Everyone is looking for a happy medium for the issue but can’t seem to find it. Recent immigrants are being expected to trade their ethnic and national identities for new American identities, and the concept of ‘Americanization’ commences. Is the idea of American culture as a “melting pot” still valid, or are immigrants becoming ‘Americanized’? Being an American means to live on American soil. But more than that...

One of the reasons for that is the shocking fact that the poor often pay more taxes, relatively, than do the rich. In Britain, for example, “the tax burden of the top fifth of earners has fallen from 37 percent to 35 percent in the last twenty years. In contrast, the tax burden of the bottom fifth has risen from 31 percent to 38 percent.” The other reason for social inequality nationally is imperfect income distribution. Thus, whereas 23.5 percent of all American workers received only poverty level wages in 1973, this had risen to 28.6 percent by 1997. Looked at another way, real wages for relatively low-paid workers fell by 22 percent between 1973 and 1995, and 10 percent for middle-range workers. Low-paid jobs grew by 22 percent in New York City between 1993 and 2000—four...

The purpose of this essay is to examine the age discrimination issue in Singapore, and the scope of this essay will covers the issues and the group of people involved, why it is important for us to talk about it, and where we can start to fix the problem. All the results reported in the essay were obtained from the newspaper articles, internet as well as a self-driven survey. (79 words) THE ISSUES AND WHO ARE INVOLVED Prejudice and Discrimination has resulted in unfair treatment among the older workers in the society. In this essay, I will be examining the reasons that led to age discrimination among the older workers in Singapore, how this had affected the society, and what the individuals and the society can do to reduce such discrimination. The reason for choosing this particular area to talk about is because age discrimination is something that had existed for long time, and many older workers have always been out casted either by their employees or from job agencies once they hit certain age or when they are nearing their retirement age. As new generation will always be there to replace the older ones, thus older workers will always be faced with age discrimination, as the younger generation are more efficient and their pay is lower. Age discrimination have resulted in many older workers facing lack of jobs, unjustified layoffs and even forced retirements. Furthermore, age discrimination...

Human Resource Management

...Question 1 When an organization encounters extreme turnover, the organization will suffered in terms of brain drain that is considered as the loss of skills, power, and human resource. However organizations that have little turnover will achieve their objectives. There are two types of turnover, that this essay will focus on as well as the causes and ways that can be used to counter both turnovers. Firstly, turnover refers to leaving the organization because of employees not being happy with their employer’s decision or attitude, which creates job dissatisfaction occurring from negative treatment. Involuntary turnover occurs when the organization causes depression or dissatisfaction by terminating employees, in simple terms “turnover initiated by an employer (organization)” (Noe, et al., 2011). Voluntary turnover refer to employees reaction against bad situation offered by the organization or in other words, “turnover initiated by individual employee” (Noe, et al., 2011). These two turnovers lead the organization into “brain drain” in terms of human resources and negative publicity. Secondly, involuntary turnover is used by the organization for reasonable reasons to encounter the change and also to avoid harassment and other activities that can put the organization into serious issues in the future. Noe (et at, 2011) stated two causes of this kind of turnover which is “drug use” and “downturn”. Employee who use drug but not only drug, harassment activities within the organization...

With that being said, I have learned to control it but not to completely erase it from my life. If you figure out how, let me know! One suggestion that I have come up with is putting yourself in a setting where nothing can cause more stress. For me, I like going in a quiet room and finding out interesting facts about random things. I look for silly little books, internet articles, and fun facts that have un-useful information. Too Much?

...Brandon Stinson Mrs. Adams English 101 16 October, 2012 Too Much? For my Argument Text Analysis, I chose the essay “Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money?” by Mihir Baghat. This particular essay is about how athletes make way more money than they deserve and how wrong that is due to the fact that the American society is a place where salaries and wages are based on the value of ones’ work and that a person should be paid according to the economic importance and value to society. By writing “Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money?” Baghat is trying to inform the reader about the amount of money professional athletes are making now a day and that they should get paid a lot less. He is doing this by giving examples of jobs that he thinks deserve a lot more money than what professional athletes are getting paid. Teachers are great examples of this. Baghat states that “Teaching is one of the most economically important occupations if you really think about it. Our future economies rely on how well we educate our youth, and yet teachers are paid a mere fraction of what a professional athlete receives” (Baghat). Another example is when Baghat talks about President Obama and how he gets paid a lot less than professional athletes even though the President makes important decisions affecting the entire world. This essay is very one-sided at times but overall it does achieve its goal of convincing the reader that professional athletes get paid too much and that...
