Shape and ease of adaptability around tooth gives these strips an advantage. They absorb oral fluids effectively and the non-abrasiveness provides gentle displacement.
Laser is another brilliant way of gingival retraction. This method is completely pain free and causes prompt healing with no inflammations. Its overuse may however cause certain non-repairable damages. It may cause shrinkage of the tissue and too much exposure to crown margins. The study by Enrico F. Gherlone and colleagues showed that laser technique was less aggressive than the conventional ones. The technique also showed hemostasis during impression making.
Research by Ateeq et.al (2011), identifies that the primary cause of the failure to accurately record margin details is improper gingival displacement. The …show more content…
Many researches have been done to achieve retracted gingiva without causing any damage to the tissues, but no such technique is achieved till date.
Very minimal comparative studies have been done regarding mechanical and chemo-mechanical methods, which show that merocel strips create more vertical and lateral space during gingival retraction in comparison to mechanical methods. In the literature review, it can be summarized that there have been many research studies on the procedure of gingival retraction, but only a limited studies were done on the effect of the gingival retraction procedure on periodontium health.
The studies done till now focus only on extent of gingival displacement & omitting the outcome of these procedures on periodontal health, however for future study it becomes
Imperative for a more organised and planned research on the difference in the two systems
The gingival health factors need a comprehensive assessment with relevant inclusion
Criteria’s so that a fully defined outcome is obtained. In light of the above, an RCT,
