Pros And Cons Of Minecraft

...influences towards violent crime (Rogers, Wczasek, and Davies). For example the game Minecraft, which is a G-rated game suitable for all ages, a game that no one might think is a bad influence towards their child behavior, but in reality even games that are meant for children could lead to violence. In the game the player could do anything that they want craft, build and even kill virtual animals. Young children could find it funny killing animals or pushing them off a cliff towards their death, and they would also think that it is okay to harm animals in the real world because they do it in Minecraft. Parents who do not have the time to check or do not realize what their child is doing when using the computer should be more careful because...

...The Benefits of Playing Video Games Isabela Granic, Adam Lobel, and Rutger C. M. E. Engels Radboud University Nijmegen Video games are a ubiquitous part of almost all children’s and adolescents’ lives, with 97% playing for at least one hour per day in the United States. The vast majority of research by psychologists on the effects of “gaming” has been on its negative impact: the potential harm related to violence, addiction, and depression. We recognize the value of that research; however, we argue that a more balanced perspective is needed, one that considers not only the possible negative effects but also the benefits of playing these games. By integrating insights from developmental, positive, and social psychology, as well as media psychology, we propose some candidate mechanisms by which playing video games may foster real-world psychosocial benefits. Our aim is to provide strong enough evidence and a theoretical rationale to inspire new programs of research on the largely unexplored...
