On 16 December 2012, a twenty-three-year-old woman was being sexually violated and was abused by six men on a bus. Her condition drastically worsened as a result of her fatal injuries to the extend she had to move from Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital to Singapore hospital. Two weeks later, she succumb to severe internal injury. In India, women faced many culture challenges. “It’s really a constellation of factors hindering women’s rights, including gender sex selection, literacy, child marriage , and violence.” (Council on Foreign Relations, Beina Xu, 10 June 2013) Most raped go unrecorded, primarily because of cultural stigmas encircling such events that could bring humiliation to victims and their families. Gender stratification requires individual socialization who traditional gender roles within family, males and female’s unequal access power, prestige and property which is justify in Functionalist perspective view contributes to the overall social stability, therefore women are perceived to be a homemaker while men are the one providing for the family. Ascribed status are assigned to women in India by society without regard for the women’s unique talents or characteristics. Symbolic perspective, men attack because they are socialized into associating violence with men strength and virility.
