Task 2: Career Research
For me a Career is a livelihood profession carried out for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress. A career is often composed of the jobs held, titles earned and work accomplished over a long period of time, rather than just referring to one position. It’s difficult to find a good career in which you can excel and move up for example, becoming a principal from a teacher, air force officer from a pilot ant etc.
For this task I have chosen two career pathways to research on, Communication and IT systems in the Air Force and Air Force officer. In this task I will be discussing with you about qualifications, personal requirements, related jobs, future trends and job description and much

Do Laptops Help Improve a Students Learning in Their Education?

...technological guy even though it wasn’t appreciated. Not being able to use technology in high school was always an annoyance of mine. I’d always think about how there’s technology that would be useful to a student during school. Who wouldn’t love to have Wikipedia and a spell checker handy at all times? During my high school career, I would always get in trouble for using my phone as a source to look up a word definition on an app. I would hate it very much, only because I would only be looking for knowledge and wasn’t that what school was about? Looking for knowledge and learning ways to use that knowledge. Anyways, I graduated high school and fortunately I was able to go to college. Many questions came to mind about how college was going to be. Would it be better than high school, or would it be just as bad? Coming into college I discovered something totally opposite from my prediction about it. It was probably one of the happiest days of my life coming into college and realizing that technology could be used in classes! I have been doing research for the past 2-3 weeks to figure out if laptops help improve students learning in their educational career in order to find a partially accurate answer. However, problems with this are that teachers say that students tend to go on laptops and forget about class. This is sometimes true but David Silvernail, in his book T.H.E Journal, Volume 35, Issue 7 says that “more than 80 percent of teachers say the laptops have made them better...

Motivation Essay

...motivate and retain new graduates early in their careers. You must clearly justify the choice of theories chosen for this occupational group. Today this essay will be analysing and expressing two motivational theories. The theories will be concluded and conducted in the thesis of retaining and maintaining new graduates within their early stages of the working environment. The organisation that has been chosen to be based upon within this essay is Zara, the clothing company. After interpreting the essay question I have decided that the two controversial theories I will be assessing is Maslow’s theory that is constructed upon the hierarchy of needs as well as Fredrick Taylor and the application of scientific management and the motivational influence of money. I will be engaging and implementing my own opinion as to why I feel these theories are justifiable for the chosen occupational group, along with providing key research, highlighting benefits and drawbacks of these theories. Initially my essay will begin with the theory hypothesised by the man known as Abraham Maslow. I will briefly describe the main factors that are included within Maslow’s theory. Maslow refers to a pyramid of hierarchy that shows the basics needs that a worker requires in order to successfully be motivated. He theorises that every aspect of the pyramid grows less insignificant as you reach to the top of the pyramid. For example a quote helping prove my research is “Undoubtedly these physiological needs...

Turnover and Retention Analysis

...Introduction 2 Main Body 2 Excessive Turnover 2 General Turnover 2 Critical Employee Turnover 3 Turnover in Low to Moderate Level 3 Motivation 3 Innovation 3 Relationship between Employee Turnover and Performance 4 Employee Retention 4 Significance 4 Job Satisfaction 5 Embeddedness 5 Others 6 Conclusion 6 Reference 6 Introduction Following the process of globalization which is increasingly developing, consequent fierce competition brings about frequent phenomenon of turnover in organizations (Liu et al., 2011). According to the statistic data that showed by Meier and Hicklin (2007), the turnover rate of U.S. federal government was 16.1% from 2003 to 2004, that of Dutch temporary employment agencies was 14.2% in 2005 and that of trucking even reached 41% in 2005. Currently, employee turnover is still lacking of attention in many aspects, such that most previous researches were focused on the reasons of turnover, but paid less attention to the effect of turnover (Ton & Huckman, 2008). The emphasis in this essay is that high employee turnover damages organization performance for increasing cost and causing critical employee leaving, while moderate level of turnover benefits organization performance for improving innovation and motivation, employers should focus on enhancing employee’s job satisfaction and embeddedness for retaining their employees. This essay has four parts. In the first and second part of the essay, both effect of excessive turnover and moderate...

“Identify and Discuss the Skills and Strategies Needed for Effective Learning”

...needed for effective learning” Word Count: 858 Effective learning involves students learning a broad range of core skills and strategies that can be learnt and developed throughout the Higher Education (HE) life span. Throughout this essay discussion will explore the core tasks and strategies of effective learning, including the importance of “self” within the context of learning, the academic skills required and the scholarly expertise required to understand, research and produce academic essays or reports. Finally, a summary of the approach to effective learning will be detailed within the conclusion Studying at HE differs from other types of studying as students are expected to manage and their learning. Cottrell (2013, p. 10) reaffirms this, stating “that in HE, success lies largely in your own hands.” Generic literature (Payne and Whittaker, 2006; Price and Maier, 2006; Moore et al, 2010; Burns and Sinfield, 2012; McMillan and Weyers, 2012; Bedford and Wilson, 2013; Cottrell, 2013) is published on study skills and provides broad based overviews (skills, tasks and strategies) of the prerequisites required for learning at HE level. More task focused texts Godfrey (2011) on writing for university, Godwin (2014) on writing an essay, Cottrell (2011) on critical thinking, McMillan and Weyers (2012) on referencing and plagiarism and Williams et al. (2012) on reflective writing run parallel to the generic texts. Both these lists are in no way exhaustive but provide a flavour...
