HOMEWORK QUESTIONS
TSGT MICHAEL A. JOHNSON

1. I believe we are a product of our environment and can only control what we know how to. Knowledge being power is useless without opportunity. You must recognize your abilities, know yourself and balance your talents with your expectations. I believe you are in complete control of your life. However, fear of the unknown or comfort with the familiar is what will have someone remain content or left with the feeling of being lost and hopeless. Violence to me can be summed up as an act that deliberately causes harm or damage to someone or the possessions of someone else. In Malaysia, Africa, Brazil, Mexico still have lynch mobs where large groups of people will ban together and beat someone to death since they committed a crime such as, rape, adultery, murder, theft, or even gay. Coercion is very unfortunate if used for selfish or naive reasons such as, religious or political or personal gratification. I don’t know of a right way of life or what one should do. I only know what’s good for me. 2. I place a high value on human life. Everyone has a story and purpose even if its similar to others. It’s still their story. If I have a close relative pass away, I will visit them and will mourn. Later on, I’ll reflect on them and have a bit of a wow moment thinking of all the trials they’ve been through only for it to end. I try to think or ask if they have any regrets. I know I’m finite in this world and sometimes it scares me and sometimes comforts me. In the end it will all be ok if it isn’t ok then it isn’t the

...stances on why something is named what it is. People who are essentialists believe that the names things are named what they are named because they contain certain properties that only that one object has. Non-essentialists believe that things are whatever we call them in a specific situation and that things do not have essences. I believe that essentialism is a much better way of thinking because they have both reason and justification. The Ancient Greek philosopher Socrates , was very firm on believer of essentialism. He believed that there must be justification for things all in the world. This man, wanted to know why people were said to have virtue instead of just claiming they have it much like Meno did. He was very stubborn with Meno on this topic that their argument ended in aporia, which is known as angered puzzlement. Meno tried offering Socrates examples, but Socrates decided to stick to his own personal opinion. He did this because he felt the need to live up to being the wisest man in Athens, even though he knew he was not wise at all. Justification is needed with essentialism in order to claim something truly has an essence. People typically have a reason for their actions otherwise they would not perform them. Often times it may not be a strong reason, but at least they had some sort of a purpose to their action. When parents are naming their children, they more than likely have a specific reason for giving them that name. Many times parents...

The Real Essence of Life

...THE REAL ESSENCE OF LIFE Many of the people often times failed to discover the beauty of having differences in a community. The mind setting of the many is to conquer differences and consider one thing in common. What could be the possible effect of this mentality to the society? Whatever religion we fight for is not a hindrance upon achieving a peaceful society. We all have the right to choose what we knew our heart is shouting for. It is still believed that we have a life to live and a spirit to lift. For whatever reason it might be for all of us, we are all gifted with the same being. We only differ on what we profess and what we worship. Yet it is not necessary that we should force other people to believe on what we know is right to believe. The only thing that is left in us is to stay to what we believe, not to destroy what other people has built in them. We are one people though we belong to different religions, countries, etc. It should tell us now that the difference in us does not suggest that we are to treat our neighbors with different levels depending on their position in the society they belong. We are all one if we believe that we can be together though we are coming from different origins. We ought to respect our own brothers and sisters since we are responsible for each other. If we proclaim in our selves the beauty of diversity, we will have altogether a united community. The thing is we have a mentality that only us understands. ...

Essence Kit Paper

...Essence Kit Paper As part of the Food and Beverage class, I was given the opportunity to learn about wines through an essence kit. According to NapaStyle wine shop, half the pleasure of wine enjoyment is the sensation of complex aromas that defines the character of a wine. Learning to identify the subtleties of wine aromas enhances the wine tasting experience. This lead me to think of a way that I could use the essence kits to distinguish between wines that I may or may not enjoy. I went to the Total Wine and More Shop at the Shoppes at Greenridge on Woodruff Rd. The store is laid out by type of wine, and as I wandered around the clerk asked if I needed help selecting a bottle. After explaining my project, he suggested that I choose a selection of merlot wines, as they have bold noses that will be distinct enough to notice the differences. I chose three bottles that were under $10.00 each, a Bogle from California, a Spier from South Africa and a French Hob Nob. The Bogle Merlot is described as concentrated and full-bodied, with dark plum fruits and brighter summer cherry notes. The Spier is expressed as a medium-bodied, soft wine with notes of dark cherry, mint and spices. Finally the Hob Nob is presented as a full, rich wine with distinct notes of blackberry, plum and licorice. I decided that I would place them in the following order: Spier, Bogle, Hob Nob. This would allow for a progression from lighter to fuller body and density. Once home I set up my tasting layout...

Why I Chose My Writing

...A shift in paradigm made all the difference. My strong points in writing are usually fact-based works, such as research papers. My love of research branches off from my love of logic. It either is… or it isn’t. If I can choose the topic of my writing, I usually achieve a better result. Interest in the topic is what really drives me to do well with the matter at hand. I could write ten pages in a heartbeat about Ford Mustangs, but...

...and turn into animals when there is a way to survive, or get the advantage for their own sake. There was a line in the movie that had the idea of “to pay a small amount of money to cheat death”, which meant the rich people have the upper hand at living because money is needed for health care and in the movie, the “insurance policies” which cost millions of dollars. A character that I find very interesting is Dr. Merrick because he was the starter of the insurance group. To Jean Paul Sartre, “Existence precedes essence”, and to me, that is the whole objective of Dr. Merrick and that is to try to give essence to the life of each “product”, but in the wrong way. He plays God in the movie and gives life, gives death and prolongs lives of other people who have the money to pay, of course. Clones are started off as full grown adults who have an actual mental age of a baby, like in real life if we apply Sartre’s ethics, the clone or “adult baby” would not have any essence in his life until his client needs something from them, but instead of telling them that their purpose is to become an extra pair of kidneys, each product has another clone, which they put into some sort of machine that gives them all dreams. Dreams that make them think that they have...

Comprehensive Grammar Answer Form

...writing. In fact, the three universities that I have attended in the past have all required me to use the APA style of writing. As I recall my high school years, the APA style of writing also seemed to be a favorite amongst my high school teachers. They all required that term papers be written in APA style as well. This type of writing actually does not differ much from the ones included in the text reading. The text mentioned the APA style of writing several times. In my opinion, it appears to be the most popular style of writing, especially amongst college students. Based on the results of the quizzes, my grammar skills were actually a little better than average. I actually had expected to do better, but I guess my grammar skills are not as good as I thought they were. In any event I feel very confident when it comes to spelling, as I have always been a great speller. Even in grade school, I was a good speller. I learned at a very young age to challenge myself when it comes to spelling. Challenging my-self in that area really paid off as I became older, as I’ve never had a problem with spelling. However, I feel that I need more help with run on sentences and with thought patterns. Though I proof read my paper several times, it’s hard for me to see that I have several run on sentences until after I get my grade back. In general, I feel that my writing is just mediocre. However, I also believe that when it comes to writing, I am my own worst critic. Reason being, I am never...
