Personal Ethical Statement Personal ethics to me is your ability to determine right from wrong. I was raised that to get respect you have to give respect. In till this day I still stand by the motto. As my mother always told me “ignorance does not have an age.” I believe everyone should be treated fairly but in the same token I agree with the Italians when they say “an eye for an eye.” I’ve learned a number of things about myself one being that my primary concern is protecting individual rights. Also that I believe everyone is treated fairly. I found this to be very interesting but also encouraging because my long term goal and lifetime dream career is to become as successful lawyer. So to read that my core values consist of protecting the rights of others was a very welcoming eye opener. My strengths are very clear being able to being able to analyze problems “reason and experience.” Being able to think through a problem clearly and research options. I learned that I have the ability to tolerate ambiguity within the context of clear, broad principles. Which I feel is a great strength of mines that I didn’t know that I possessed. I found that my weaknesses are one that I tend to want others to do things my way, and its said that when I don’t that I feel as if they don’t measure up ethically. Another one of my weaknesses that was pointed out was my temptation. Sometimes I may get tempted to break or just simply excuse myself from following the rules. In the end I will justify it by any means. My blind spot was that I sometimes fail to be accountable to those who need me when I act on my own free will, as long as my needs are satisfied. Apparently I can become complacent leaving problems unsolved and allowing others to fend for themselves. My blind spot says that I have the potential to cause people

...Ethical Lens Inventory Reflection Andrew P. Fields US/101 April 16, 2013 Nakia Samuel Ethical Lens Inventory Reflection In this paper I will be discussing key concepts based on my ethical lens inventory. I will be explaining my ethical lens and academic behavior, along with; how my ethical lens influences these things. I will also be discussing the results of my reasoning aptitude, and how my ethical lens and reasoning aptitude will help me in the classroom and workplace. I feel the results of my ethical lens inventory are very valuable in determining who I am as a person. This is very interesting to me to know that my ethical lens reflects me perfectly as a person. For my core values, I value sensibility and follow my heart to make prudent choices, and I use rationality before anger. I agree with my key phrase results about making choices good for everyone. I feel that I am compassionate and free willed. My blind spot; WOW! This is very interesting. Yes I do sometimes set goals that are optimistic. As my wife says; “I am optimistic, and she is a realist.” This is very true for me. For my vise I feel everyone has a little greed in their life. Thankfully my compassion rules over my greed for the most part. My crisis is very deep and spot on. I don’t have very many friends, and I feel it is for the reasons that my ethical lens says. I do feel...

...Ethical Lenses and Ethical Theories April Mallari ETH / 316 02/09/2012 Evelyn Moorman The purpose of this paper is to compare the similarities and differences between virtue theory, utilitarianism, and deontological ethics. The differences in how each theory addresses ethics and morality along with a personal experience will be addressed to help explain the relationship between virtue, values, and moral concepts as they relate to one of the three theories. A personal experience would be my character results from the University of Phoenix web based Ethics Game called the Ethical Lens Inventory. I was assigned to play the Ethics Game-Ethical Lens Inventory for class to determine which ethical perspective best categorized me. The results were surprisingly quite accurate in describing my character especially after reading the definitions of each lens and found that I fell into the Rights and Responsibilities Lens. There are four lenses in the ethics game, the Rights and Responsibilities Lens, Relationship Lens, Results Lens and Reputation Lens. Three of the four lenses will be covered in the paper as the Rights and Responsibilities Lens and Reputation lens are both categorized into two different views of the deontological theory. The Rights and Responsibilities Lens classifies me as a “person who uses my reasoning skills and (rationality) to determine your duties as well as the universal rules that each person should follow (autonomy)”...

In pursuit of examine my own ethical lens I will analyze the ethical traits of an admired leader, my own traits as exhibited in the Ethical Lens Inventory, and how I make a decision concerning a particular ethical dilemma. Ethical Traits of President Obama My chosen leader for this ethics review is President Barack Obama. President Obama’s two leading exhibited ethical traits are respect and fairness. According to article Obama's Leadership & Character Traits Obama showed the first trait, respect, when he shared his views concerning diplomacy with Iran before he took office. He believed that we should recommence peace talks with Iran rather than pass a bill that would seek to label a group within their borders a terrorist threat which would lead us to locate troops near the Iranian border and escalate already heated tensions with Iran. Obama showed respect in this instance by believing that the past of an organization does not inherently infer that the organization should be disrespected by using force first rather than diplomacy. Person Ethical Statement

...Personal Ethical Statement your name GEN/200 10/18/13 teachers name Personal Ethical Statement Developing your ethical values and acting upon your developed value is hard to master but over time you begin to see how to use it to your advantage. To master all four ethical lenses is a ongoing process which was hard to think of that way, never an end to it, always improving it, and drawing from others ideas and viewpoints is great way to start developing your own ethical lenses. My personal ethical viewpoint on this simulation was it all boiled down to maturity, the maturity to tell mark he copied my research paper and turned it in for credits risking both our credentials in school and risking his getting expelled, basically not thinking ahead of his actions and not using his own ethical lenses thus throwing us both in a bad spot legally, personally and ethically. I just found it highly childish and risky of a friend to copy your homework and risk both your reputations like that, very irresponsible. In this simulation I swayed towards, rationality, but not excluding equality for mark and Lisa's situation. I can use most lenses to my advantage moving fluidly among them to adapt to certain situations. My blind spot, well I don't really have one according my ethical lenses inventory, I'm balanced, I see both the strengths and weaknesses of each lens and I actually agree with that, my ethical lens actually does feel like its explaining who I am as a person and how I react...

Organizational Issues

...Soto The Case of the Mysterious Roses and The Case of the Cold Feet The ethics game simulations in these scenarios took the managers of the organizations through different ethical dilemmas. Until faced with an ethical situation in the workplace you really do not know what your decision would be as a manager. In any situation you have to make the best decision for the organization without compromising your own morals and values. This paper will discuss the ethical dilemmas in these organizations and my decisions of The Case of the Mysterious Roses and The Case of the Cold Feet. The Case of the Mysterious Roses In this simulation I was the Director of Sales in the organization. I received an email from my administrative assistant and a work colleague in the organization telling me of an employee Gayle Dornier, receiving flowers from an anonymous person. The person that sends me the email assumes it is another employee sending the roses. Bill Witherspoon, a Research Scientist who also works in the company sends me an email informing me of him and Gayle’s work relationship and asking me to be lenient on Gayle because of issues she is going through. The next email I receive is from Gayle asking to speak with me in confidence but doesn’t disclose to me the reason for the meeting. The ethical issue is for me to determine how I can ensure Gayle can talk about what happened while still meeting my responsibility as a manager and to treat all employees fairly in an investigation...

The Relationship Between Critical Thinking and Ethics

...The Relationship between Critical Thinking and Ethics Amber Williamson GEN 201 November 23, 2015 Tina Bernard The Relationship between Critical Thinking and Ethics Critical thinking and ethics play a significant role within each other's decision process. They both use each other’s steps and processes to obtain a desired result. Throughout this paper, you will understand what critical thinking and ethics are and the relationship between the two. Critical Thinking Critical thinking is the ability to think rationally about a subject or material. Your brain uses a process to dissect the information into sections, then reconstruct the pieces into new connections. Using critical thinking allows a person to come up with something different based on the original idea that could open new relationships with other ideas. ‘Critical thinking is made up of a process that includes six levels’ (Ellis, 2011, para. page 2). The first level is remembering. In this level, a person focuses on whether or not they can recall important facts about the idea. Examples may be key terms or certain events. The second level is understanding. The big question here is, do I know what the idea is? Can I summarize and put the idea into my words? Level three is applying. In this level, a person needs to be able to take the idea and use it to get the results that they are looking for. On level four it is time to analyze the idea. By doing this, the idea will be broken or...

Continued Academic Success

...Continued Academic Success Samantha White GEN/201 10/01/2015 Tia McMillan Introduction Throughout a person's academic career, there are many good habits to have that will assist in the continued success of future endeavors. These include creating goals, understanding your ethical lens, being able to think critically, write formally, and knowing what resources are at one's disposal to put you on the right path. With knowledge of these habits and perfecting them to your learning level, continued academic success can be reached. Educational and Career Goals Some might not see the importance of making goals when discussing success. In all actuality, setting goals is one of the most important steps in setting out on a path towards success. In the Journal of Student Development it is said that "goals and self-responsibility represent the foundation upon which personal and academic success are built and all other academic and life skills are base" (Hughes & Marsh, 2000, para. 2). Setting goals can help lead to success by allowing you to focus on one thing at a time, and not get overwhelmed by the big picture. By knowing what you want, you can begin to focus on what steps you must take to get there. Personally, my career goal is to become a clinical psychologist. This requires a doctorate, and many years of schooling, licensing, and internships. While a good goal to have, it can be frightening to know that I have all of that ahead of me. In my case, I have broken it down simply...

By having so many resources available, we will be able to achieve academic integrity and success. By knowing how we learn, it will allow us to write a good paper. Being able to focus and use all the resources we have available. Learning Styles “Learning Styles differ but so does the learner.” (Walker & Schutte, 2002) One of the approaches to learning styles that is considered the most powerful and simple is the VAK system. It focuses on these three styles: ▪ Visual Learning • Learning by seeing ▪ Auditory Learning • Learning by hearing ▪ Kinesthetic Learning • Learning by doing Knowing the style by which someone learns helps both the learner and the instructor. It allows the student to comprehend the subject and learn the style that works for them. In addition to personality, learning styles are an individual difference factor that represents enduring and stable approaches to processing information (Snyder, 2000). If you are a visual learner, you are more likely to get bored with auditory learning and losing focus with the...

...with ABC, but he is also genuinely concerned about the well being of his brother. Selling the house now would mean potentially higher profits for Owen. A dilemma exists about whether or not Luke should tell his brother about the upcoming building of the adult entertainment store, which would decrease the property value of the house he is trying to sell versus disrespecting ABC Company and their confidentiality agreement. Should Luke protect his brother and advise him to not sell his house or should he respect ABC Company and keep the information to himself until it is publically announced? It is clear there is an ethical dilemma in this situation: a matter of doing the right thing and not breaching confidentiality (loyalty to the company) vs. being a good person and saving a family member grief from making a financially poor choice. ANALYSIS: Applying the ethical lenses/theories UTILITARIANISM: Utilitarianism is a theory that states that moral action is most effective when it maximizes utility, which is defined as...
