Introduction
The person I selected as my interviewee for the Manager Interview Project is one who has inspired me to get an education in the healthcare field. I have been working with her for the past two years, and she continually motivates me in everything I do. She is my role model because she explicitly exercises good work ethic and is very charismatic about her job. Thus, getting to know more about her and the importance of her job will help me in the near future as a healthcare administrator. Mary Calderon, my interviewee, is the Director of Nursing (DON) for a long-term care facility. Specific roles she fulfills as a DON include the development and implementation of nursing service objectives, implementation of policy and procedures to help maintain quality care, and the supervision of care to all the patients in the facility. As DON other duties include the management of administrative functions and systems in nursing development, compliance of regulations/care plans and assessments in servicing and ongoing education. Moreover, Calderon oversees all hiring and terminations of employees, maintains operating expenses and budget control, evaluates job performance, and monitors staffing levels. Calderon has a total of ten years in management in which four of those years were practiced as a weekend supervisor and case manager. Responses to the interview questions were obtained through personal communication with M. Calderon on January 25, 2015. Calderon works for Legend HealthCare in Kyle, Texas which “owns and operates a total of seventeen buildings across Texas” (M. Calderon, personal communication, January 25, 2015). Legend Healthcare provides rehabilitation, hospice, respite, and home health services. Legend has been open since 2011, and this organization’s mission focuses on placing patients first.
