1. Using Table 11-1 as a guide, what needs to be done to turn Google's HR Group into a true team?
In order for Google’s HR Group to become a true team there are 5 important steps that must take place. The first thing is that leadership is not going to be a one person job but more of an activity that is shared. One person cannot have the job as being a leader. There are different people that make up a team meaning that there are different strengths and weaknesses and performance levels that lie within each person and one person’s weakness just may be the next person’s strength. The next thing is that accountability is no longer something that lies with just one individual person but with a group as a whole collectively. Another thing that must be done for all groups is that the group must develop a purpose and with that purpose a mission to fulfill that purpose as well. One thing that takes place not only within the team but in everyday life and living is problem solving. This is something that becomes a part of life. One of the most important things to take in consideration when evolving into a team is the effectiveness of the group collectively.
2. Should Google's HR team members have been instructed ahead of time in the teamwork competencies in Table 11-3? Explain how it should have been done.
The first thing would be to come to mutual agreement as to what the problem may be and to come up with an understanding of the situation and to figure out the importance of this problem and whether or not it should be escalated or not. Then the search for information that would be relevant to the situation would occur. As a team, everyone should be in one chord as to specify certain challenges and goals used and put in place to overcome these challenges. A team should also look to search for more strategies and resources to address feedback of the performance of the team. As a team everyone should be able uplift one another on their accomplishments and efforts put in place. In order to work as a positive team, all negativity that can be avoided must be avoided. There is no need to encourage undesired conflicts within a team. If a team comes up with a certain view on certain situations then they must be promoted from the perspectives that team comes up with collectively and the only changes that should be made is if a member of the team has a different opinion followed with an argument to stand by it.

I never knew what it was founded upon. After reading Burnes and Cooke’s article on “The past, present, and future of organizational development: Taking the long view,” I learned that organizational development has such a variety of components to it, and didn’t realize the complexity that lied within the topic. There are so many layers that we must get through to fully understand the true meaning of organizational development. The most interesting to me were that training groups were the building blocks of organizational development, the criticisms it faced, and participative management that encompasses OD.
