1. Describe prosopagnosis (face blindness) and how the individuals featured in the video experienced the sypmtoms.
Prosopagnosia is a condition where people are unable to recognize faces by people they know. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a person's eye gaze. They are also unable to sometimes identify objects, mostly its facial recognition. Prosopagnosia usually occurs after a stroke and or brain injury, and sometimes genetics. Some cope well with the face recognition impairment, and develop elaborate compensatory mechanisms to help them function effectively in everyday life. For others, however, the condition has a much greater impact on daily functioning. Some have reported avoidance of social interactions, problems with interpersonal relationships, damage to career, and even depression. In extreme cases, some may develop social anxiety disorder, characterized by fear and avoidance of social situations that may cause embarrassment. In the video the people seemed to be perfectly normal and they still weren’t able to identify people. For example Jacob he was able to describe the reporter because she was in front of him but if he was able to see her in public he wouldn’t even know who she was.
2. Who can you recognize and who can you NOT recognize? Can you recognize yourself in the mirror? What about ethnicity, beauty, age, gender?
It just varies for the most part you cant recognize anyone not even your friends and family. 3. How did you do on the test? Was it a helpful test?
I did pretty good on the face recognition test. I knew a majority of the people n there probably about 80% of the people on the test.
4. What is the treatment and cure for face blindness?
There isn’t a cute for face blindness. If someone has face blindness they have to learn different cues on their friends and family so that they can be able to identify them.
