Farm Girl Summary and Response
While reading Jessica Hemauer’s essay “Farm Girl” my first impression was this poor girl. Life must have been hard for her growing up. I could not even begin to imagine how she must have felt. Being and young girl and getting up so early to do chores, and then to do more chores after school let out is a lot for any child to handle. I also began to understand the responsibility she was gaining at a very young age. There are a lot of kids this day and age that have no clue what that word responsibility means. Jessica went into great detail explaining the situations. She used good descriptions, which helped me relate to her situation. It made me feel like I was the one out there in the barn helping with the cows.
The purpose main of this essay was to share how it felt growing up on a farm, and just how much Jessica Hemauer had to give up in order to help her family. I believe that Jessica wanted her readers to understand what it was like as a child not being able to participate in school activities. I also believe that her intended audience was the younger generations. Jessica Hemauer wanted her readers to understand that what they think will help them “fit in” does not always help. Also, I feel like that she was trying to reach parents so that they could understand what it is like as a child growing up with such big responsibilities, like helping maintain a farm. Jessica’s tone in writing this essay way very respectful and was very comfortable with the topic she was writing. Jessica was smooth in her writing, explaining all the little details in great dialog.
Jessica wanted to fit in with her peers, and wanted to feel like part of the group. School was her social life. She thought that being more involved in school activities would help her fit in better with her classmates. She also made it clear how left out she felt while

In Cold Blood Pdf

...In Cold Blood Truman Capote I. The Last to See Them Alive The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there." Some seventy miles east of the Colorado border, the countryside, with its hard blue skies and desert-clear air, has an atmosphere that is rather more Far West than Middle West. The local accent is barbed with a prairie twang, a ranch-hand nasalness, and the men, many of them, wear narrow frontier trousers, Stetsons, and high-heeled boots with pointed toes. The land is flat, and the views are awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully as Greek temples are visible long before a traveler reaches them. Holcomb, too, can be seen from great distances. Not that there's much to see simply an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center by the main-line tracks of the Santa Fe Rail-road, a haphazard hamlet bounded on the south by a brown stretch of the Arkansas (pronounced "Ar-kan-sas") River, on the north by a highway, Route 50, and on the east and west by prairie lands and wheat fields. After rain, or when snowfalls thaw, the streets, unnamed, unshaded, unpaved, turn from the thickest dust into the direst mud. At one end of the town stands a stark old stucco structure, the roof of which supports an electric sign - dance - but the dancing has ceased and the advertisement has been dark for several years. Nearby is another building...
