Why Invest in Yum

...softness in Yum's business, the operating cash flows remain strong totaling about $1.6 billion for the first half of the year. Overseas, Yum has a very strong position and plans to expand its already very successful International division into continental Europe, Russia, and India. The "Live Mas" advertising campaign has been a success. The US division of Taco Bell has been the only bright spot, with comp store growth of 2% in the latest quarter. With expansion into china, Yum should increase in stock value over a longer period of time. Investing into Yum would be a smart and well paying investment. Since I've bought my shares in Yum I noticed an increase in stock prices. If Yum continues to grow we will see them become the highest paying food stock compared to McDonald's (MCD). But its competition also has expanded into china, many tough rivals, such as Domino's (DPZ), Chipotle (CMG), Chick-fil-A and McDonald's...

Ice Cream Industry

...Fast Food’s Snacking Trend Now Has Global Reach Article | 10 Nov 2011 Between value-priced items and full meals, a new product tier emerged over the past few years: Snack-sized meals, desserts and beverages that drive traffic, improve profitability and broaden restaurant appeal to the widest possible consumer base. Now, this snacking trend has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, driven by growing consumer demand for variety, value, portion control, small luxuries and new dining experiences. The trend is particularly evident in fast food, led by McDonald's and its success with specialty beverages in the US, desserts in developing markets and snack-size items system-wide. The trend offers a variety of benefits for operators that vary by market maturity: In developed markets, snacking items can be used to drive incremental traffic and take share from competitors; in emerging markets, the same can be used to appeal to lower-income consumers who may not be able to afford full meals. A focus on taking share In developed markets, the effects of the recession have left restaurant operators fighting for share in stagnating, or even declining, markets. In Japan, consumer foodservice value sales have declined each year since 2004, and in the US value has not grown since 2007. Other major markets, including France, Spain and the UK, have all shown a net decline in value since 2007, and many are expected to see this stagnation continue through 2011. As such, operators in these markets...

A Better Place to Live

...Russia are both great and powerful countries, which play an important role in the global economy, science, and protection of our world, yet they are so different from each other in many respects. One of the most important things in any society is employment opportunities. It is equally easy to find a low-skill job in both countries, but the level of compensation varies substantially. For instance, a person applying for a cashier position in a supermarket chain would earn $9 per hour in the U.S., which will come down to $1,584 per month, assuming a nine-to-five schedule working 22 days per month. That same person is expected to earn 15,000 rubles, on average, in Russia, which is approximately $375, substantially lagging behind the American counterpart. The cost of living is arguably somewhat lower in Russia than in the U.S. Nevertheless, it seems that the above-mentioned hypothetical person will end up being better off financially in the U.S. than in Russia as $1,500 is a sufficient amount of money to rent an apartment, put some food on the table, and purchase some nice clothes in the U.S., while $375 in Russia is...

Human Immortality

... There have been many movies and books on this subject, and I will explore the impact of a few of them on society. The ethical questions that are being asked are needed and to plan ahead for this event in human history will need to be closely considered and controlled. There is also religious considerations, will the religious community embrace or repulse this science? Does this make us more Godlike and are we competing with God by bending his natural ways? I will evaluate both sides of this controversy and leave you to decide based on the information I present. Ray Kurzweil, author of “The singularity is near” explores the possibility and firmly believes that the singularity is nearly here. The technological singularity is a hypothetical moment in time when artificial intelligence will have progressed to the point of a greater-than-human intelligence, radically changing civilization, and perhaps human nature. Since the capabilities of such an intelligence may be difficult for a human to comprehend, the technological singularity is often seen as an occurrence (akin to a gravitational singularity) beyond which the future course of human history is unpredictable or even unfathomable. Included in this...
