Summary: In this reading, Faulk outlines what he considers an emergent citizenship. Globalization identity politics, regionalism, migration and human all shape and reflect this emerging idea of global citizenship. Humanity is in the midst of a monumental shift in history. The concept of human rights has expanded vastly in recent history as has other things like technology. Yet this speed of progression is unprecedented in human history and is forming a different view of citizenship. Ever increasingly, humanity is heading towards more expanded human rights. Urbanization has led to more cities which breed diversity. Through the exposure to diversity, tolerance of differences has increased. Elemental rights, the rights regarding freedom from government abuse, are the are the base of human rights. They are considered inalienable and are becoming so all over the world. Countries like the United States tend to take these rights for granted. Political rights involve the right to vote and participate in our political process. In the last hundred years these rights have broadened even in the United States. Finally, social rights involve welfarism and what people would consider the right to a stable standard of living. These rights are not as widely agreed upon between the United States and Europe. These rights have been expanded through the state and are provided the state. Some rights have now becoming unconditional. They are expected and enforced across territorial lines. There widely is a Euro-American acceptance of most human rights. Differentiation only occurs with welfarism and what the government should provide. These rights are so unconditional that they are widely taken for granted given human history on the subject of

This paper critically examines the content of contemporary understandings of CC and locates them within the extant body of research dealing with business-society relations. Two conventional views of CC are catalogued – a limited view which largely equates CC with strategic philanthropy and an equivalent view which primarily conflates CC with CSR. Significant limits and redundancies are subsequently identified in these views, and the need for an extended theoretical conceptualization is highlighted.
