In today’s classroom, there is an ever-growing student population that is losing its ability to connect to the curriculum and classroom supervisors through methods used in previous teaching years. This lack of a student-teacher-information connection is born of an ever-changing world climate. Students in today’s society are more technologically enraptured and less inclined to listen to what is considered as a common classroom instruction. The educational foundations set forth by philosophers such as Einstein and de Montaigne are what need to be embraced in today’s classroom. We are only concerned if children can or cannot pass a standardized test. If children do well, the school and teachers are held in high regard. The students are considered to be receiving the most quality education. Those schools that do not do as well are subject to new programs that only frustrate teachers and turn into meaningless, benign obstacles for students to care even less about. I feel we, as a society, have strayed away from teaching youth the importance of good character and …show more content…

Music education should lend itself to the needs of the students that need it. As teachers, it is our job to produce well-rounded individuals, who can function in society as model citizens therefore, the development of self is extremely important. Music education should not only facilitate the learning process but it should support and be concerned with even the emotions of its students. Because morality depletion in our society, children grow up not learning the basic rules of respect towards adults and each other.
Performing is also very important to the musical process because it allows the performer to demonstrate what he/she has internalized, interpreted and learned. When the performer has reached a level where the challenge meets the ability they experience a flow which brings about satisfaction. These traits are important when conducting a qualitative or a quantitative research study. Despite researcher’s eagerness to prove the validity and reliability of research data, there are situations that interfere with the accuracy of the study producing measurement errors, such as contaminants and biases. The first study I chose is a qualitative study by researchers Shaw, Robertson, Pransky, and McClellan (2003). The purpose of the study was to analyze the employee’s perspective on the roles of supervisors to prevent workplace disability after injuries. As part of needs assessment for a supervisory training program, 30 employees from four companies were interviewed about the role of supervisors to prevent workplace disability after injuries. From interview notes, 305 employee statements were extracted for analysis. An affinity mapping process with an expert panel produced 11 common themes: accommodation, communicating with workers, responsiveness, concern for welfare, empathy/support, validation, fairness/respect, follow-up, shared decision-making, coordinating with medical providers, and obtaining coworker support of accommodation (Shaw, Robertson, Pransky, McClellan, 2003).
