How come most high school graduates flunk the UPCAT? 6. “Most graduates are too young to enter the labor force.” Since most children start Grade 1 when they are 6 years old, they do not reach the legal employable age of 18 when they graduate from high school today. 7. “The current system also reinforces the misperception that basic education is just a preparatory step for higher education.” Why prioritize the minority of high school graduates that go to college? 8. “The short duration of the basic education program also puts the millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), especially the professionals, and those who intend to study abroad, at a disadvantage. Foreign Service Officer Examination Procedure

...For those planning to take the Foreign Service Officer exam (FSOE): “Define realpolitik and describe how this principle is evident in the strategies of Otto Von Bismarck and Camillo di Cavour.” This is one of the questions in the world history portion of the FSOE written test. I’ve heard people say that the FSOE is the most grueling government exam because the Department of Foreign Affairs is, they say, the most elite office in the government. Some even dare say that the exam is more difficult than the bar. I really wouldn’t know but one thing’s for sure: the mortality rate is definitely higher in the FSOE. Out of 628 examinees in 2011, only 9 passed. That's 1.4%. I heard there was even a year when no one passed.  I'm one of the lucky 9 who made it. And so to help future examinees prepare for the FSOE, I thought of writing down and sharing my experience. This is my own small way to thank and show appreciation for the people who supported me and helped me make it through.  The exam is difficult because it’s the type of exam which you can’t really study for. The scope covers everything under the sun, and, actually, none of the topics I studied for was asked. The exam proctor told my batch that the best time to review for the FSOE is in college, which is a little bit too late by now, right? So the best tip I can give is simply to make reading a habit. Try committing yourself to read for at least 30 minutes every day and you’ll have a pretty strong fighting chance. What to read...

Effects on the Job Performance of Working Students in Selected Colleges in Cavite

...effects on the job performance of working students in selected colleges in cavite Jaime A. Enoc Jr., Aileen C. Juera De La Salle University – Dasmariñas City of Dasmariñas, Province of Cavite Abstract Education is considered as one of the valuable thing for every Filipino that they can achieve. It became a culture for every Filipino family to have even one member of the family to finish the education with a Diploma. This now became the answer for poverty for most of them. That is why even though the path to achieve success through education is seem to be narrow and steep, they still strive for excellence. That is why Filipino youth who really want to pursue their education chose to work while studying because of the incapability of their parents to support them financially. But due to their oath-to-work together with their responsibility as a student, how can they perform well in their job despite of their school responsibility? This study, therefore, was undertaken to find out how are they going to perform in a job while being a student at the same time. More specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: * Is schooling hindrance working students to perform to their job well? Or vice versa? * Is there any aspect that hinders the student to perform in their job? * Are they satisfied with their current job that can make them perform in the job well? * Are they more effective in their work environment than others? ...the K+12 Education System? Updated on November 24, 2014 Filipinos are known to be competitive in the international community. While this may be true, our current education system hinders us in becoming more competitive among other countries. Starting this coming school year 2012- 2013,the current education system of the Philippines will be enhanced from the 10- years of basic education into 12- years through the program called the K-12 Education Plan of the Department of Education. The implementation of the K- 12 education plan in the Philippine Basic Education Curriculum is the key to our nation’s development. Though the government will face many problems in the long run of the implementation of the program, there really is a need to implement it because the enhancement of the quality of our education is very urgent and critical. Here are some of the good reasons not to disagree with K- 12 education plan in the Philippines according to Isagani Cruz (2010) in one of his columns in a local newspaper: Sufficient Instructional Time If K- 12 will be implemented, students will be able to get sufficient instructional time to do subject- related tasks which makes them more prepared and well- trained on that subject area. On the other hand, if we remain on the old system, Filipino students would continually get low achievement scores. For instance, international test results revealed that we often come at the tail end in the exams compared to other countries. More Skilled and Competent...
