For my career goals, I see myself fully emerged in the film industry with a focus on directing and production. Working in film is something I have dreamed about and have been absolutely fascinated with since I was in middle school. Early on, I got to take a film class that really opened my eyes and helped me set this goal. This is also what keeps me holding on so tightly to it. My goa, as far as my education, is to learn all aspects I possibly can about the film industry and I am confident The Art Institute of Seattle can help me achieve this. With the hands on, fully immersive, and technically specific curriculum that AI offers, there is no doubt I will be set up for success.

Cinema opens windows into multiple worlds; the study of film provides the tools with which to explore and understand these worlds. For New Zealand actor Sam Neill, a long, lonely road was an essential image in the landscape of New Zealand filmmaking when he co-directed Cinema of Unease in 1996 with filmmaker Judy Rymer. Over the years talented scriptwriters, directors and producers have travelled this road. Today New Zealand cinema has moved far from its uneasy beginnings. It has become an international thoroughfare where the cinemas of the world, including Hollywood and Bollywood, come to tell stories using New Zealand’s production and post-production facilities, employing local actors, crew and other technical staff. The study of Film makes it possible to consider the diversity in New Zealand cinema and in all cinemas of the world. The disciplined approach to studying these cinemas allows students to better understand not only how cinema itself functions, but also how New Zealand cinema contributes to the global cinematic tapestry. play? How do filmmakers contribute to culture and influence societal attitudes? How can other disciplines, such as psychology, help us to better understand film? Experience as a Writer

...techniques to write a successful well-structured paper. More importantly in order to excel at any craft it takes practice and critique to make anyone an established writer. As an economics major and accounting minor, formal papers, essays and exerts are expected of me to write. These types of papers include research working papers that illustrate results based around a thesis. Through my college career I’ve had a lot of experience writing working papers , as well as evaluation papers based off of sample working papers I’ve read and expressed my stance. In this essay I will illustrate what experiences I’ve had in the past with writing and highlight any strengths and weaknesses I’ve experienced in each area. In many of my economic courses a lot of our topics of discussion were based on theory and evidence to support a writer’s research. For instance my instructor Alexander Padilla challenged his classes to read many working papers and write what our thoughts and educated opinions concerning the publications were. A lot of times he challenged our intellect by discussing more controversial subjects which initially were not in my comfort zone but highlighted many social phenomena’s our society faces today. For instance we read an article published by himself entitled “Self-Regulation in the Adult Film Industry: Why are HIV Outbreaks the Exception and not the Norm?" where his research almost favored the use of no protection in the adult film industry because it lowers ratings. Initially...

...Despite my newfound confidence there was a time when I almost let my insecurities defeat me. Before I took part in competitions, I doubted that I had the capabilities to develop an award winning experiment. Quite frankly, my classmates doubted my research abilities as well. Considering that I never scored the highest on tests and constantly asked questions in class, certain students would categorize me as someone that struggled in that class. One student even said “no” when I asked if they thought that I could get past the first round in NYSCEF. Although it was disheartening to hear that someone one thought that I was incapable of developing a valid experiment, I used that negativity to work hard and prove those students wrong. Only then did I realize that I just might have a future in science. Fortunately, I disregarded the lack of support, continued working on my experiment, and submitted it to NYSCEF for review. Not only did I make it past the first round, but my experiment was also selected for the final...

Disney Princess Effect on Young Girls and Gender Role Perception

...see them as role models. From the dresses to the tiaras, the beauty to the fairy tale, Disney Princesses have a direct effect on young girls and their behavior. The media has been a powerful resource through which many young girls develop their identity and come to understand gender roles in society. Research indicates that watching televised gender portrayals has an effect on individuals’ gender based attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors (Mastro & Morawitz 131). These are the attitudes and beliefs that young girls who watch Disney princess films would inherit. Girls enjoy watching these films and see the beautiful characters overcome difficult trials, as well as fall in love with a handsome prince in the end. The overall message is not a realistic one, leaving many girls feeling self conscious and unhappy. The idea that beauty equals good and ugly equals evil can negatively impact the way a girl looks at herself or others. Girls will ultimately learn that what is beautiful is good. Snow White and Cinderella were attractive and charismatic while the witch and two stepsisters were unattractive and vile. And in the end, the princesses lived happily ever after. The purpose of this paper is to examine the portrayal of Disney Princesses from three different time periods and the impact they have on young girls attitudes and behaviors. The representations of these princesses may be whimsical and allow the children to enter a fantasyland, however, the real effect it has can be detrimental...

It was a hard experience and I had to push myself to a point that allowed me to present data in the best way possible. Thankfully, friends and the Writing Center were there at every step of my development into a confident writer. Aside from that, some of the most rewarding projects at Carleton were surprisingly assigned papers. They allowed me to express myself in a way that I had not previously experienced. It allowed me to incorporate my love for linear mathematical thinking into a less restrictive medium. And most importantly, I was able to immortalize my grandmother’s...
