The History of Fire Fighting Over the years fire fighters learned new techniques and manufactured new equipment used to extinguish fires and reduces the interior and exterior damage caused by fires. Fire fighting is all about putting out the fires by taking on of the three elements to prevent combustion from happening. The first organization was in Roman emperor Augustus credited instituting the corps of fire fighters called “watchmen” in Twenty-Four BC. Most of the cities in the preindustrial era would have watchmen sound an alarm at the the sign of a fire. Fire prevention is important because it teaches how to prevent fires from starting. Fire fighter in are trained with basic methods. Fire departments assign certain companies to inspect district building to make sure they are to standards. Many fire departments are more that just fighting fire’s. Fire departments respond to all different kinds of emergency’s. Over seventy percent of fire call are medical as well as fire call’s Fire fighting consist of applying water to the burning building, it many is cooling the atmosphere which it stops the fire from combustion and is no longer self feeding with flammable material. Many fire contain flammable liquids, certain chemicals and combustion metals often require special extinguishing agents and techniques. The first fire engines which was manufactured in the seventh century was just tubs of water carried on long poles on wheels, also water was brought to the fire by buckets called bucket bridge. The invention of leather hose pipes was invented in the Netherlands about 1672. The fire hose allowed fire fighters to get close and fight the fire. The constitution of houses are more advance to metal, steel and other material. Techniques have grown over the years, and tool and equipment are way more advanced from the first era of fire fighting. As the fire departments and technology grows fire fighter will have new and better equipment. Fighting fire in smaller communities are getting harder because of all the hazardous material
