Summary of Service Quality and Patient-Centered Care

Quality patient centered care is vital to a hospital or clinic’s ability to treat whole patients. Dabney and Tzeng (2013) address the necessity to implement patient-centered care into clinic and hospital settings. The article clarifies what patient-centered care and service quality is by consolidating many works and sighting benefits medical professionals can observe in their practice. Dabney and Tzang (2013) highlight the importance, sighting the Department of Heath and Human Services heads (2011), urging health care providers to improve their overall quality of health care by making it more patient centered. Patient-centered care, or person-centered care, refers to the therapeutic relationship between health care providers and recipients of health care services, with emphasis on meeting the needs of individual patients (Dabney and Tzang 2013). This process allows the patient to become a more active part of the healing process. By implementing a patient-centered approach a health care provider will increase quality of services offered and also better educate patients in disease prevention (Dabney and Tzang 2013). Moreover, a patient will be more willing to communicate with the clinical staff if they feel they are being cared for in a personalized way. Communication between provider and patient is crucial to properly diagnose and treat issues that may arise with the patient. The nurse must utilize communication with the patient to adjust their plan care and better understand the way the patient would prefer to be cared for. Introduction to APA Style What is APA style? APA is an editorial style recommended by the American Psychological Association (APA) for preparing scholarly manuscripts and student research papers. It is the standard format for papers, articles, and books in the social sciences. In addition to providing standardized rules for formatting a paper (margins, line spacing, etc.), APA style provides a consistent method for citing ideas, quotations, facts, and paraphrases borrowed from other sources. This standardized format for identifying sources used in a paper makes the paper more credible and ensures that other authors are given credit for their original thoughts and ideas. Are there other styles? Just as APA style is used by teachers in the social sciences, teachers in the arts and humanities may ask you to format your paper in MLA style; a history professor may ask you to use Chicago or Turabian; a biology professor might want you to submit a paper in yet another format. There are slight differences between the formats...

Its importance cannot be over-emphasized. Visually center the title block on the page. The title block consists of the title, the author’s name, and the byline. The title is a description of the focus of the paper and should not have comments such as “A Research Paper on…,” as that would be redundant with the expressed purpose of a research paper. APA suggests a title of 10 to 12 words (American Psychological Association (APA), p. 11). Following the title is the name of the author(s). It is double-spaced and centered below the title. Double-spaced and centered below the author’s name is the byline. The byline is the name of the institution or institutions where the work was completed (APA, pp. 11-12). The words “Running head” followed by a colon appear on the title page only; left justified (one-inch margin) and one inch from the top of the paper. APA style is widely used, either entirely or with modifications, by hundreds of other scientific journals (including medical and other public health journals), in many textbooks, and in academia (for papers written in classes). Discussion: In the interest of transparency (and following the same procedure that was followed for the fifth edition), staff posted all of the corrections online in a single document on October 1, 2009, and shortly thereafter alerted users to the existence of the corrections in an APA blog entry. On the same day the corrections were posted, an individual posting to the Educational and Behavioural Sciences Section mailing-list of the  American Library Association  alerted readers to what she described as the "many" errors in the first printing, and speculated that "some but not all" would be corrected in a second printing. On October 5, 2009, APA staff responded to the note, clarifying that errors were found in the sample papers, that the papers had been corrected and posted online, that...

Think of this paper as a short literature review. Note 1: Your research papers must be your own original work!  Be sure to give proper credit when you borrow or use someone else's words and ideas, including your own previously written works. See the sixth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association pages 15-16 for specific information on Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism. If proper credit is not given to the work of others, the paper will be assigned a grade of 0. ...Following APA 6th Edition Formatting Style Johanna P. Bishop Wilmington University The Basics of Formatting a Paper in APA 6th ed. Style Introduction In order for a paper to be perfectly formatted in accordance to APA style requirements, the paper must follow certain conventions. The basic conventions include making sure that specific rules are followed regarding margins, spacing, in-text citations and formatting the cover and reference pages. Understanding what these conventions are and how to follow them will help students to properly format their papers in APA style. This paper has been formatted in APA style so that it serves as an example of what properly formatted APA style papers look like. Basic APA Conventions The most basic convention in following APA formatting is to use a one inch margin all around for the paper. Students should pay attention to what version of Microsoft office they use as the older version has set the left and right default margins to 1.25 inches while the top and bottom margins are set to one inch. That means students will have to manually adjust the margins to one inch all around. Newer versions of Microsoft Word have set the default margins to one inch all around. Preferred Font Another basic element of APA style papers is the font used. The preferred font style is Times Roman 12 point font. Since the default font for MS Word 2007 is Calibri, students will need to reset the default font on MS Word 2007. Students using older versions...

Difference Between Apa and Mla

...and most popular reference styles adopted by writers and scholars. MLA and APA reference styles are the common styles adopted. DIIFERENCES BETWEEN APA AND MLA American Psychological Association (APA) and Modern Language Association (MLA) are writing and formatting styles used in papers, reports, and academic essays. APA is predominately used in the social sciences while MLA is predominately used in the liberal arts and humanities. The guidelines provide overall formatting for content, style and references. While they have many similarities, there are also many differences. Despite their differences, the APA and MLA citation systems have the same overall function in a research paper—sources are acknowledged via in-text citations, each of which corresponds to an entry in an alphabetical list of works at the end of the paper, referred to as “Works Cited” in MLA Style and “References” in APA Style. However, the MLA Handbook also mentions some variations, such as a “Works Consulted” list, which contains sources not cited within the body of the paper, and an annotated bibliography, which includes a brief description or evaluation of each source. APA Style does not use these alternate methods The differences between the two styles become even more apparent when one is creating text citations. MLA Style includes the author’s last name and the page number, whether citing a direct quotation or not. However, APA Style text citations also include the publication date, because the timeliness...

...Test 2 Review References and Works Cited Pages • References and works cited pages are both bibliographies, are both listed in alphabetical order, and are each used in a style guide for a different discipline (APA used references; Turabian uses works cited). • If you only cite 1 source in your paper, be sure to label your bibliography page accordingly (i.e., reference or work cited instead of references or works cited). • You must only include the sources that you actually cited in your references or works cited page. If you read other materials while writing your paper, but you did not actually cite them, you may want to include them on a separate page; since they are not actually cited, they must not appear on the works cited or reference page. • You must list all sources that you cited in your paper, including dictionary and encyclopedia entries. • Attention to detail in a works cited or references page is important because it can help you to avoid plagiarism, it demonstrates academic integrity, and it helps your reader to find and use the same sources that you did. • Regardless of whether you use a references or works cited page, your entries must be listed in alphabetical order based on the first word of the entry (usually the author’s last name, but sometimes a piece may not have an author, so you will have to use a different piece of information.
