Angling and Bait Varieties A common bait that is used for mainly bass is called a jig. A jig consists of a heavy weighted jig head and a skirting. The skirting is normally a soft plastic, but can also be a feathered material or buck tail. Jigs are mainly used by more experienced anglers, but beginner fishermen can also use them. These baits take practice to get the hang of, mainly because there are many different types of jigs (Pelton 2018). The main types of jigs are casting and swim jigs. Jigs have a certain fishing finesse that is used. An angler has to cast the jig out and let it sink to the very bottom. Once they have done this, they can jump the jig off of the bottom. This is continued until a fish is caught. This type of bait is fished in thick cover areas. These areas are where there are sunken logs, debris, lily pads, thick weeds, or under thick trees. These baits work very well in these areas because they do not need to be cast out very far. This is because anglers are just bouncing the bait off of the bottom repeatedly. The angler can choose which size and color pattern they think will work best. Smaller jigs sink slower because they weigh less, but it is easier for all fish to fit small jigs in their mouth (Pelton 2018). Jigs are …show more content…
The only problem with using a bobber is that sometimes anglers are not able to cast their bait out as far as if they were to use a weight. If an angler is fishing the worm on a jig head they must cast the bait out and reel it in slowly. A container of large Canadian earthworms will contain around twelve worms, but most anglers will cut them into quarters because they are so large. A container of red wigglers can contain up to twenty-four worms because they are smaller, but they also stay alive in water a lot longer than other breeds of worms (Pelton

...Ice Fishing Tips Mapping your catch February and March offer productive ice fishing days. Because of fluctuating conditions, check the ice for safety. Large, shallower bodies of water are favorable for sunfish, northern pike, and yellow perch. Northern pike, walleye, and lake trout dwell in deepwater lakes. Ice can measure an inch thick in one part of the lake and a foot thick at another. Ice is often weak and hazardous at shorelines. A hand-powered ice auger cuts through up to 12 inches of ice. Roaspie Fishing Research Paper

...Spring Crappie Fishing "Got one!" My fishing partner softly set the hook and pulled in the day's first fish, a ten inch crappie. A beautiful, warm spring day prompted an evening of crappie fishing on our favorite lake. It was just what we needed to spur recovery from the off-season inactivity here in Minnesota. The scene above is repeated over and over again every spring on Central Minnesota's lakes. Crappies are a fine, sporting fish that often provide fast action in the spring when the season is closed on the high profile species - walleyes and bass. Instead of longing for the opener, get out and chase the crappies! Spring crappie fishing starts in dark bottom bays and protected canals where the water is warmest shortly after ice out. If crappie fishing is not an annual event for you, ask the local bait shop where the crappies are biting. They can usually get you started in a good location. Since crappies are in quite predictable locations at this time of year, a map...

There were vehicles at nearly every pullout for Cottonwood Creek, either bouldering or fishing, so I decided to forego fishing the creek this time and head right to the campground. As it was last year, the campground was empty, only a small portion of it is open during the spring with no water available. After driving the short loop, I decided to pick site 7, the same site we had set up on the previous year's trip. During that time he had been a devoted fisherman along with my father. Just before I was born, he sold that cabin to his neighbors on the lake.
