According to the laws mandated by IDEA, formal transition should start by the age of 16 for students with disabilities (Idea.ed.gov. (2017). This transition of adulthood from high school is a time of planning for the person’s future. However, this time is also a stressful time for family members of someone with ASD, as there are many issues to be considered. Foremost is the issue of legal matters such as guardianship. Parents are often worried about the care and welfare of their child after they are gone. Appointing responsible family member who are willing; emotional and financially, to take on the burden of responsibility is often troubling.
