Entry 1: The Holocaust
As Hitler’s armies had breached Eastern Europe in 1941, he started what we know today as the Holocaust. The “Madagascar Plan” was considered before the Nazis decided to murder the “undesirable” people. The Nazis initially considered the island of Madagascar as a potential new home for the millions of Jews and even encouraged Jewish emigration. This solution did not last long and Hitler decided to embark on the “final solution,” which basically means he wanted to kill the entire population of Jewish and other “undesirable” people. Hitler’s special task forces, known as Einsatzgruppen, were mobile killing units that were driven to kill any Jewish person they found. These German special killing forces killed more than a …show more content…
United States was a court case that arose in 1944. In the early stages of World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt issued the Executive Order 9066, which granted the power to the United States military to remove Americans of Japanese descent from their homes and forced them into internment camps. Fred Korematsu, an American-born citizen with a Japanese lineage, refused to leave his home in California, resulting in his arrest. He appealed his conviction and his case made it all the way to the Supreme Court. A 6-3 majority of the Court upheld the conviction placed on Fred Korematsu. Civil liberties were a huge subject for Justice Hugo Black, the speaker for the 6-3 majority, yet he agreed with the policy of internment. Like most people of the time, Justice Hugo Black believed that setting the Japanese American free would be like giving the enemy an easy way to infiltrate the United States. I believe that the internment of the Japanese Americans was a precautionary necessity in order for peace of mind and …show more content…
This conflict was the closest the world had gotten to a nuclear war. Castro and his revolutionary forces overthrew the Batista’s autocratic rule in 1959, resulting in a new leader for Cuba. Castro exploited United State properties and killed or exiled thousands of his political opponents. The United States decided to cut off Cuban sugar imports. As a result, Castro accepted the Soviet Union’s massive economic aid and arms shipments. To protect Castro’s regime, the Soviet Union, officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, assembled nuclear missiles on Cuba in 1962. American spy planes discovered the Soviet Union’s actions and President Kennedy decided to authorize an attack on Cuba, which was known as the Bay of Pigs fiasco. Kennedy’s plan to attack Cuba failed, and his public ultimatum called on the Soviet Union to withdraw all missiles from Cuba. The USSR yielded to the United States demand. Kennedy pledged not to overthrow Castro and remove the American Jupiter missiles from

Apollo Space Emergency

...Many people believe that the number 13 is an unlucky number but the space program didn’t depend on luck. There were many American astronauts that went to the moon in Apollo 11 and 12. The mission began on April 11, 1997 Apollo 13 lifted off at 2:13pm from the launch pad in Cape Kennedy in Florida. It was an hour earlier at mission control in Houston (Cole 5). Lovell and Haise were supposed to land on the moon in an area named the Fra Mauro uplands. The Fra Mauro uplands were the site of a huge meteor crater near the moons equator. They were trying to see if that meteor millions of years ago had blew samples out of the moons insides. They wanted to get samples of the moon. Earth’s orbit had to put on a route to make it to the moon in three days (Cole 6-8). For the next two days the flight was going along very well then suddenly they heard a very loud bang on the spacecraft. The oxygen in the tanks was also used to react with hydrogen in the ships fuel cells. The energy produced by this chemical reaction within the fuel cells which provided all the electrical power in the craft 2 out of 3 fuel cells had shutdown. Mission control was working on the plan to get them down safely (Cole 10-12). Mission control realized that there must be oxygen leaving from the spacecraft. This escaping gas was causing enough power to push Apollo 13 off the route. Engineers began calculating course correction that would have been made later...

...Mac Miller vs. Donald Trump Facts: In August 2011, shortly after the music video to the song reached 20 million views on YouTube, Donald Trump tweeted about Mac Millers song “Donald Trump” claiming that he would be the next Eminem and there were big things ahead of him. Mac Miller went on to send Donald Trump a plaque for the songs accomplishments after it began to do good. The song was part of his 2011 mix tape entitled Best Day Ever. The issue is still at hand with Trump recently posting a new status against Mac Miller, instead of Mac arguing with Trump he has chosen to kill the issue with kindness even posting that he does not want negative energy but rather to be friends. Mac in an interview revels that the reason behind Trumps tantrum could be due to the fact that he stated Trump was a douche in an interview with complex magazine. Issue: Mac Miller went on to get over 75 million hits with the song alone which Donald Trump noticed. Donald Trump then claimed that he needed to get paid due to the fact that Mac Miller used his name illegally and took to tweeter to further threaten Mac Miller. Some statements made by Trump include “Little @MacMiller, you illegally used my name for your song “Donald Trump” which now has over 75 million hits.”, “Little @MacMiller, I’m now going to teach you a big boy lesson about lawsuits and finance. You ungrateful dog!”, and “Little Mac Miller’s next album may bomb. He can’t use my name again for sales.” Judgment: unresolved Reasons...

Varoom Model of Leadership

...Discussion Summary of the Vroom Model of Leadership Christine Cambruzzi MGT/230 Management Theory and Practice April 6, 2015 Professor Quinton Murphy Discussion Summary of the Vroom Model of Leadership The Vroom Model of Leadership places various points of situational questions on a scale to be rated high or low. Then it places styles of leadership along a continuum of potential leadership behaviors and bases them on the degree of authority exercised by the manager and the degree of importance to employees in making decisions. The theory finds that successful leaders have a clear understanding of the organizational forces and have good personal awareness. The Fiedler Contingency Model was created in the mid-1960s by Fred Fiedler. He was a scientist who studied the personality and characteristics of leaders. His model states that there is not one best style of leadership. It states instead that a leader's effectiveness is based on the situation. This is the result of two things which are the leadership style and situational favorableness. The Results With the Vroom method the researchers found there were three factors that influence the choice of a leadership style.  They are the leaders own personality, beliefs, values, knowledge, experience and confidence in the employees. Next was the employees need for independence, ability and readiness to take feedback about the importance of the issue. Lastly was the organizations culture, pressures and...

...A lot of people think Donald Trump isn’t a good president and a lot of people think he is. I think he is a great president. A couple of reasons why I think he’s a great president are, he enacted historic tax and regulatory reform that has unleashed economic growth. Media Influence On Election Essay

...How the media influence gave rise to Donald Trump In this new era of globalization, the media has more power and influence than it has ever had in the history of technology. The role of media over the years has become very important when it comes to political election. There is an interdependent relationship between politics and media, when it comes to the political elections. The media affects political elections and campaigns by communicating the agendas and beliefs of different political parties. The strong influence of media on political election can seal the fate of any electoral candidate or party. That is what happened in the case of Donald Trump, when he won the Republican primary votes. Prior to the Republican primary votes Trump had received too much media coverage compared to other presidential candidates, which eventually led to his unexpected victory in the race for the Republican presidential nomination. The media’s rules of an election change the face of the election itself. From my experience of watching the debates, I would say that each channel of media has its own bias. For example Fox news is known as the conservative cable network while MSNBC as the liberal one. Nowadays, it is almost impossible to hear story or news coverage without some twist. In the current election, the media has been (either intentionally or not) biased about the Republican presidential nomination. They had been an unlikely ally for Donald Trump, fueling his campaign...

Reichheld & Phil Schefter Introduction This study is about the Harvard Business Review article “E-loyalty - Your Secret Weapon on the Web” written by Frederick F. Reichheld & Phil Schefter. In the first section, an overview and summary of the article are presented. The overview includes the main points and examples that are considered important. 1. Overview 1.1. Importance of Loyalty in Internet: Reichheld and Schefter has been analyzing the Internet companies, their websites and applications for some time and they have concluded that , contrary to the common belief, today’s Internet users in both business-to-consumer and business-to-business worlds show high loyalty and they do not easily leave the companies that they have tried and trusted. According to the studies of the authors, acquiring a customer in e-commerce world is 20-40% costly than traditional retail channels. Therefore the losses in the early stages of a customer are bigger. But in the following years, the companies earn more from a loyal customer in e-commerce than that they do from their physical retail channels. Therefore the opportunity is bigger, but the risk also seems higher. If the companies end up with low retention rates, than they can face with bigger losses in e-commerce. It is also observed that loyal customers in the real world tend to be more profitable when they switch to web purchases. The idea...

The Release

...The Release Every time I close my eyes I see those faces, their faces. Twisted with pain, eye’s begging, mouths open, yet no words coming out. Their expressions were pleading for mercy. Their eyes blacked and their faces darkened as their bodies went limp and fell to the floor. I watched my mother, father, and brother’s horrible murders. They were shown no mercy. When they finished with my brother they turned to me. I was prepared to die. Only death didn’t come. Instead, they tied me to a chair in the corner, deciding fifteen was too young to die. I sat there for thirty hours, staring at the lifeless bodies of my family, to horrified to scream for help, to scared to breathe, ready to wake up from this nightmare like reality. It was raining when the police escorted me out of my house, and into the police car. I couldn’t feel the rain hit me, I couldn’t feel anything. The raindrops hit the window, streaming down the window. I don’t know how long I sat there, time no-longer mattered. Nothing mattered anymore. I was alone. I watched police officers carry three body bags out of my house. The sight made me cringe. My face felt wet, I reached up and discovered I was crying. Before I knew it I was crying so hard I couldn’t stop, my body was heaving up and down so ferociously I thought it might actually kill me. Someone opened the car door, and I fell to the ground. I started gagging from crying so hard, my hair was getting wet and clinging to my face, but I hardly noticed...

Letter from Birgmingham

...beginning of his letter he gives a response to the clergymen’s claim that the demonstrations were risky and early. He states that the Negro community had no substitute except to prepare for direct action. He supports this claim by saying that the Negro leaders wanted to negotiate with the city fathers, but they consistently refused to engage in good-faith negotiation. He also gives more support to his argument by writing about another confrontation in September when the Negro leaders finally got their chance to talk with the leaders of Birmingham. He states that in the course of negotiations certain promises were made by the merchants-for example to remove the stores’ humiliating racial sings. On the source of these promises, the Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth and the selected of the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights agreed to a halt on all demonstrations. As the weeks and the months went on, they realized that they were the victims of false promises, because the signs went back up. Due to the reality that their hopes were yet again blasted they were forced to resort to direct action. This is just one illustration of many others in which Martin Luther King makes excellent appeals to logos. Martin Luther King channels a high sense of ethos in his letter. He establishes this from the very start of the argument. In the first paragraph he sets the attitude for the letter. He states that he wants to counter the clergymen’s statements in patient and reasonable terms....

Collaboration Fundamentals

...Collaboration is when a group (two or more people) comes together and works on a project or idea together as a team. During the process of attending school, collaboration could be very useful for you the student, and your peers (classmates). When you are working with a group, you have different ideas, opinions, and views on a variety of topics. Not to mention, you have someone readily available to help you if needed. When you are working within a group, it is up to you to be responsible and do your part. There is no “I” in team, therefore each person needs to contribute equally and fairly. A couple ways to show personal responsibility would be to organize time efficiently and complete tasks on time. If you are working together and doing your part in the team, you may influence others to contribute their part. Failure to be responsible will result in failure as a team. However, if all members of the group work together then everyone can be successful. When working with your classmates, it’s very important to utilize all means of communication as necessary. For instance, when you are attending school online, everyone has different time zones, schedules, needs, and agendas. You may not always be able to reach someone when you need them. This is why it is very important to use all communication resources. Some of the available ways would include email, online chat (through the online classroom or other service, phone, and discussion boards within the online classroom. All of...
