CA104 Interpersonal Communication I am very cautious about who I call my friend. For me to call someone my friend I have to be able to trust them and know that they have my best interest at heart. For me to develop a friendship, there are two stages. Stage one is to get to know the person and stage two is determine if they will become a friend or stay an acquaintance. Getting to know someone before I can call them friend is very important to me. I used to be a very trustworthy person, but after getting burnt by my “friends” I have learned to choose them more wisely now. The length of stage one depends on how well I click with person at first. If I get that feeling that their intentions are pure then I feel I can let my guard down and give them the chance to really get to know men I kind of just let things happen from this point, because I feel I can’t put a time limit on when a friendship develops. When I feel that stage one is complete, then I will decide to call them friend. If I feel that they are just one of those people that I don’t think I can be friends with, then they will remain an acquaintance. Determining a friendship for me doesn’t really have stages, I just go with the flow. My friendships are very important to me. These are people that I can depend on to be there when I need them most and I can trust them with anything and I know they will not judge me.
