– Wentworth, Inc. was founded by Bruce Wentworth, AIA, a noted remodeling architect who has worked in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area for over twenty years. He has built hundreds of his own designs, ranging from modest bungalows to large-scale luxury residences.

Passionate about historic architecture, Wentworth has also handled numerous historic renovations. He recently put his survey of residential architectural styles in the DC metro area online so that interested viewers can research and identify their own home's period and style, or those of other houses that interest them.

Mr. Wentworth’s approach—sensitive remodeling with integrated aesthetics—has led to his work, and that of his creative team, to be featured in House Beautiful, American Bungalow, The New York Times, and on HGTV. His dedication to the fields of residential design and construction is expressed through his extensive writings and featured projects in Architecture DC, Washingtonian, Luxury Homes, and other publications. He continues to receive recognition from his industry with project awards from National Association of Remodeling Industry, Qualified Remodeler, Professional Remodeler, and Remodeling Magazine.

Wentworth is a graduate of the School of Architecture—University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a licensed home-improvement contractor in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia. Bruce Wentworth and his wife Eryl are active participants in Washington’s design and preservation communities. They live in an ever-changing 1920s home near the Washington National Cathedral.

Steven Barnard, Production Manager

Steven Barnard, Wentworth, Inc.’s Production Manager, provides the Wentworth, Inc. team with excellent craftsmanship and disciplined leadership. Mr. Barnard manages each Wentworth project with professionalism, thoughtfully overseeing our lead carpenters and construction team to ensure every project runs on schedule and within budget. In addition to his leadership and management, Mr. Barnard’s exceptional woodworking skills and attention to detail are often featured in our client’s homes. For over 6 years, Mr. Barnard has overseen every Wentworth project, from the largest to the smallest, many of which have been honored with the industry’s highest design awards.

Mr. Barnard attributes his success as a Production Manager to his 10 years in the Marine Corps where he traveled the world, honed his organizational and teaching skills, and reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. During his term of duty, he proudly served the operations of Desert Storm and Desert Shield. Among his many awards and citations, Steven’s highest commendation was the Navy Achievement Medal.

Mr. Barnard keeps a woodworking shop in Northern Virginia, where he enjoys custom woodworking projects.

Home remodeling is a great way to add functionality to your home and increase its market value and curb appeal. Wentworth Studio offers a variety of remodeling and renovation services, including kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling, basement remodeling and refinishing, garage remodeling and conversion, and more.

Home Additions
A Wentworth, Inc. home addition will undoubtedly enhance the function and market value of your home, but we will never sacrifice the home's architectural scale or historical charm to do so. A truly spectacular and cost-effective home addition, whether it's a bathroom or bedroom addition, is one that is sympathetic to the home's existing architectural style and period.

Kitchen Additions
Kitchens are undoubtedly an integral part of your home life, and whether you're preparing food for a party or overseeing your kids' homework activities around a kitchen island, you probably spend a good deal of time in your kitchen. Unfortunately, many older homes, particularly those found in the Washington, DC area, have small kitchens that are walled off from the adjacent main living space and aren't conducive to the way we live today.

Porch Additions
A porch is practical way to add livable space to your home. It is a space that merges the outdoors and the indoors into one room, providing you and your family with a place to enjoy a meal al fresco without the threat of bugs or intense sun. An informal rear porch can give your home a fun, stylish look, while a more formal porch can give your home more architectural presence. Whatever your porch design needs are in the Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia area, call Wentworth, Inc. today!

Reconfigured Spaces
A home addition is not always the only solution to cramped living conditions. Let Wentworth, Inc. evaluate your space and take on the challenge of reconfiguring your current home's floor plan to a more luxurious, spacious design. Sometimes a thoughtfully planned reconfiguration will enhance your home's function, aesthetics, and market value, without the cost and stress of an addition.

Custom Design Details
Your home should be a place of comfort and luxury, one that reflects your personality and lifestyle. Whether it's as simple as a unique door handle, or as complicated as a beautifully executed balcony off your master bedroom suite, Wentworth, Inc.'s custom design services can make your house a home.

Interior Design
Looking for interior design services in the Maryland, Washington, DC & Virginia area? You've come to the right place – Wentworth, Inc. can help make your dream home a reality! We love remodeling homes, and as designers and architects, we know that a home remodeling project is not complete unless we consider the design as a whole. A project is more than just creative reconfiguration of interior space or quality construction. That's why we offer interior design services along with our architecture and construction services.

Facade Enhancements
If your home has zero to minimal street presence you may want to consider modest front façade improvements – a beautiful home can make a big statement! A good façade presentation is critical to a home's value and your own personal enjoyment. From a fresh coat of paint to a well groomed front sidewalk, small enhancements can improve both resale value and personal pride.

Historic Home Remodeling
Remodeling a historic home requires not only sensitivity towards design and the architectural history that came before, but also an understanding of the logistics involved with obtaining approvals for remodeling a home in a historic district. Throughout the years, the Wentworth team of architects and builders has gained extensive knowledge of the zoning, building codes and historic materials necessary to ensure any historic home remodeling project runs smoothly and produces a truly seamless final result.

Whole House Renovation
If you love your neighborhood, but your beloved home no longer fits your needs, you may not need to immediately pick up the phone and call a realtor. Often, when your home isn't functioning the way you need it to, a whole house renovation may be the best solution to get what you need without having to put up a "for sale" sign.

The first day of creation God made space, time, earth, and light. On the second day, God created the atmosphere of the earth which then making it possible for life on earth. The third day, God made dry land and called it “earth.” God names the water “sea.” God also created the vegetation, plants that produced seeds for reproduction, fruit with seeds in the fruit, and trees. ...Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION The world population is living, working, vacationing, increasingly mixing along the coasts, and standing on the front row of the greatest, most extraordinary, plastic waste tide ever faced. Washed out on the coasts in obvious and clearly visible form, the plastic pollution display obviously seen on the beaches is only the preface of the greater story that unfolded further away in the world’s oceans, yet mostly originating from where people stand: the land. In 2008, our global plastic consumption worldwide has been estimated at 260 million tons, and, according to a 2012 report by Global Industry Analysts, plastic consumption is to reach 297.5 million tons by 2015. Plastic is versatile, lightweight, flexible, moisture resistant, strong, and relatively inexpensive. Those are the attractive qualities that lead us, around the world, to such a voracious appetite and over-consumption of plastic goods. However, durable and very slow to degrade, plastic materials that are used in the production of so many products all, ultimately, become waste with staying power. Our tremendous attraction to plastic, coupled with an undeniable behavioral propensity of increasingly over-consuming, discarding, littering and thus polluting, has become a combination of lethal nature. Plastic bags are in use by consumers worldwide since the 1960’s, (Mc Kinley, 2010). These bags are sometimes called single-use bags, referring to carrying items from a store to a home. Mangoes in the Philippines

...The Truth About Philippine Mangoes 04/12/2011 by Vanjo Merano What is the first thing that comes in your mind when you hear the word “Mango”? If you will ask me that question, the first thing that I think of is the Philippines. In my opinion, I can say, Without any doubt, that the best mangoes that the world has ever tasted came from the Philippines. I know people from other mango producing countries will question my statement. However, I am confident to say that there is no other mango out there that can beat Philippine mangoes in terms of sweetness, sourness, size, and weight. I tried almost all the imported mango varieties here in the US — including local mangoes. They all taste different from the original Philippine Mango. There are even varieties here that says “Manila Mangoes” in the sticker, but the taste does not say so. There are many mango varieties in the Philippines. Champagne mango or Carabao mango is probably the most famous in terms of taste. This mango variety is the sweetest mango that I ever tasted. It is also the mango variety that the Philippines export to other countries. There are different strains (breed) produced from Carabao mango — one of which is called Sweet Elena. If I am not mistaken, this breed originated somewhere in Zambales. Sweet Elena mango is the sweetest that I ever had. It is probably the sweetest mango in the world. There are also the well loved Cebu and Guimaras mangoes which are of world class quality. Filipinos enjoy eating mango...

Palm Oil Sector

...11 March 2011 Food Producers Palm Oil – Extracting Value Rachel Galvez +44 20 7444 0679 rachel.galvez@religarecm.com Palm Tree Nursery Palm Oil Sector – Extracting Value We launch coverage on the London listed Palm Oil sector with a positive view as we believe the industry will continue to grow and current production will struggle to meet global demand. In our view, companies (such as the ones under our coverage) that have; agricultural land rights in equatorial regions (where oil palms thrive), industry expertise, experienced management teams, and access to capital, have defensible competitive advantages and are likely to experience earnings growth and margin expansion going forward. New Britain Palm Oil (NBPO LN, BUY, 1,197p price target, 23% upside) NBPO produces sustainable and traceable Palm Oil in Papua New Guinea (PNG), which it sells to European markets. We believe the company’s competitive advantages, (the traceability and sustainability of its oil, above industry average yields, land and other assets, management team and industry relationships) will enable it to increase sales, expand margins and maintain a market leading position going forward. Asian Plantations (PALM LN, BUY, 345p price target, 29% upside) Source: MP Evans Palm Tree Plantation Asian Plantations is involved in the acquisition and development of Palm Oil plantation land in Sarawak, Malaysia. We believe the company will be able to execute on its strategy (acquiring undeveloped land...

Utilization of Biodegradable Kitchen Wastes Into Organic Fertilzer Using Earthworms (Lumbricus Terrestris

...ABSTRACT One of the effective means to at least lessen the occurence of our present garbage disposal problem is through the use of methods that are non-toxic, less expensive, less-harmful, and yet equally effective. This project aims to provide for a natural and effective way of disposing garbage. During the experiment, kitchen wastes were collected. The materials were shredded and placed in garbage bags with small holes. The temperature inside the bags was allowed to lower. Three set-ups were prepared and were covered with plastic. The first box contained pure carabao manurd, the second box contained 70 percent carabao manure and 30 percent processed kitchen wastes and the third box contained pure processed kitchen waste. Lumbricus terrestris was placed in each set-up. The boxes were placed in a lighted area while maintaining their moisture. After drying, the Lumbricus terrestris were gathered. The resultant product, called "earthworm castings," were then sun-dried and passed through a fine sieve to remove foreign materials. Results showed that the casting from kitchen wastes and manure was highest in percentage total nitrogen, third highest in percentage total P205, and highest in percentage total K20. It was concluded that organic kitchen wastes can be converted into a competitive organic fertilizer using Lumbricus terrestris. The organic fertilizer produced by using earthworms can compete in terms of nutrient contents with other organic fertilizers. INTRODUCTION A...

Nursing

...A Functional Approach: Vitamins and Minerals Understanding Nutrition, 11e Prepared by Michele Grodner, EdD, CHEs NUTRITION STUDENTS: IGNORE THE CHAPTER REFERENCE, THIS INFORMATION IS TAKEN FROM A DIFFERENT BOOK THAN “NUTRITION AND YOU”. BONE HEALTH Bone is active living tissue. Blood travels in capillaries through the bone, bringing nutrients to the cells that maintain the bone structure while carrying away waste materials from those cells. It picks up and deposits minerals as instructed by hormones and vitamin D. Several vitamins and minerals are essential to the growth and maintenance of healthy bones. Vitamin D directs the mineralization of bones, while vitamins K and A participate in bone protein synthesis. There would be no bone at all without deposits from the major minerals calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium that give the soft protein bone structure its density and strength. The trace mineral fluoride hardens and stabilizes the bone to maintain bone integrity. |Vitamin* |Function |Food Source |Deficiency Effect |Toxicity Effect |Chapter/Page Reference | |Vitamin K (fat-soluble) |Synthesis of proteins for bone |Green leafy vegetables, |Poor skeletal mineralization, |Interference with anticlotting |Chapter 11, pp. 383-85, 386 | | |mineralization and |cabbage-type vegetables, milk, |hemorrhage...

Digestive System

...The structure and function of the digestive system Your digestive system is made to perform its special function of turning food into the energy you need to survive and packaging the residue for waste disposal. To help you understand how the many parts of the digestive system work together, here is an overview of the structure and function of this challenging system. Mouth The mouth is the beginning of the digestive tract; and, in fact, digestion starts here when taking the first bite of food. Chewing breaks the food into pieces that are more easily digested, while saliva mixes with food to begin the process of breaking it down into a form your body can absorb and use. Esophagus Located in your throat near your trachea (windpipe), the esophagus receives food from your mouth when you swallow. By means of a series of muscular contractions called peristalsis, the esophagus delivers food to your stomach. Stomach The stomach is a hollow organ, or "container," that holds food while it is being mixed with enzymes that continue the process of breaking down food into a usable form. Cells in the lining of the stomach secrete strong acid and powerful enzymes that are responsible for the breakdown process. When the contents of the stomach are sufficiently processed, they are released into the small intestine. Small intestine the small intestine is made up of three segments — the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum — the small intestine is a 22-foot long muscular tube that breaks down...
