As discussed in class, functional behavior assessment (FBA) is the process of determining the cause, or “function”, of behavior before developing an intervention. The intervention must be based on the hypothesized cause, or function, of the behavior. This specific assessment focused primarily on my boyfriend who has a habit of smoking cigarettes. I used a variety of functional behavior assessment tools, such as an ABC data sheet, functional analysis screening tools (FAST), and a motivational assessment scale (MAS). These findings helped me guide and development possible strategies to decrease his behavior of constantly smoking cigarettes.
