Fundamentals of Effective Communication in the Workplace
I am suppose to describe a personal experience that I have experienced but since I have not worked I talked to the professor and he said I could interview someone and use their experience.
So I interviewed a manager of a retail store in my area. And when asked to describe a personal experience in the workplace she said That effective communication is very important because without it things would not get done in a timely manner. And everyone would not be on the same page. And everyone is different so you have to assess the situation and proceed , with some employees all she has to do is ask and say please and thank you but with others she has to use a stronger approach.
She told me about a time when a employee was moved up to a management position but not doing her job the correct way. She sat down and talked with the employee and explained what she needed to do everyday then took her around the store and showed her the correct way of doing things. Then when that did not work. She had another talk with the employee and was more subtle with her this time. Now the employee understands her new job and can do it effectively and in a timely manner.
She also described another issue and this one is a little different than the other one. This one has to do with language barrier. This one deals with the customers that come in the store because the town where the store is located is about 75% of Spanish speaking individuals and 25% speak English. So it is hard to understand some of the customers. This one guy came in the store and needed help but did not speak
English but she knew he needed something. There was a 6 year old little girl with him that spoke a
little
