RE: Tuition Reimbursement Request for Business Communications Course

Having the knowledge and training to get a job done is essential for an employee to thrive and flourish in the workplace. It is for this reason that I am interested pursuing higher education in the field of Management. I would like to request tuition reimbursement for a course offered by Kaplan University called Business Communications. I believe that Expressions of Hue and its employees would greatly benefit from this particular course. This course directly correlates with my current position as a Payroll Specialist and Project Manager. As a Payroll Specialist and Project Manager (PSPM) for Expressions of Hue, I am responsible for communicating effectively with customers, co-workers and independent business owners during the bidding process through e-mail, letters, and memos on a daily basis. This memo represents the results of my research and findings as to why tuition reimbursement would be cost effective and efficient for the company.

What Are the Advantages?

Tuition reimbursement offers several important advantages:

• The skills learned and practice during the course will increase the level of productivity at work.

• By further expanding my education and obtaining an advanced degree our company’s professional image will stand out among the competition when working with existing and potential clients.

• This will also increase the company’s ability to recruit and retain great employees.

The greatest advantage to Expressions of Hue is the increased ability to recruit and retain great employees. By furthering our education, employees will obtain the skills necessary to be more productive at work. Therefore, this keeps our turn-over rate at a low percentage. In my current position as a PSPM, the business communications course will ultimately provide our employees with the proper tools to effectively communicate with customers, decrease customer complaints, and improve community relations. Over time, funding the educational opportunities of our employees will save the company money by decreasing the utilization of specialists for certain job functions.

I understand that there will be concerns with implementing a program of this caliber and I have listed primary concerns along with possible solutions.

What Might the Concerns Be?

Concern: The cost of tuition is will be expensive for the company?

Possible solution: The current cost of enrollment is $321.00 per credit hour. Business Communications is a 4 credit hour course so the total cost is $1284.00. In all actuality the cost of tuition is less than the cost of hiring and training an employee with a degree for which I am working toward. In the long run the company will stand to make money and save money by funding the education of its employees.

Another concern is whether my studies will cut into man hours.

Possible solution: Business communications is offered as an online course and be completed on my own time which will also help develop effective time management and organizational skills.

Additional Concerns:

Should the company fund the education of our employees, what return on the investment does the company have? Reimbursement shall be paid back if I leave the company within three years of receiving reimbursement. What academic standards must the employee maintain for reimbursement? Employees must maintain a grade B or better. If at any time the employee’s average falls below the average requirement reimbursement shall be terminated.

By approving this request for tuition reimbursement I will be able to enroll in the Business Communications course where I will learn how to communicate more effectively and efficiently. I will also acquire the skills and confidence to communicate with customers and clients using different forms of written communication. I have also attached a copy of the course description for you to see all of the objectives and benefits a course of this caliber has to offer.

Thank you for your time and consideration

...Target Case Study Be prepared to describe and critique Target’s capital budgeting system. Give specific consideration to the role of the real-estate managers and the makeup of the CEC. Target’s capital Budgeting System, by 2006, Target was targeting to create a lot of outlets and they were termed as projects, each project contains a set of procedures to be followed that are then approved by the CEC (capital Expenditure committee) in order to get the store up and running. There specific consideration for the role of real-estate managers is because, those people will have the GEOGRAPHICAL IDEA about the area in which they are managing prior sending to the CEC. These Managers will be responsible if a new store proposal comes, so that they will review the GEOGRAPHY of that location and the possibilities of having a Target Outlet at that locality. CEC was started as an approval class, whose approvals are needed to get the store up and running if there is a chance for starting up a new store in any geography (Real-estate managers are responsible for this) Which of the five CPRs should Doug Scovanner accept? Latham, MFT October 26, 2010 CECC Evaluation as We Care Foundation Board Member We Care Foundation is in receipt of the grant request for the amount of $5,000. Whereas some of the guidelines for such a request have been followed, there are a few areas that need clarification before We Care can submit funds to the organization. The first item needed is a proof of tax-exempt status as a 501(c) (3) organization. According to the grant proposal policy set up by We Care Foundation for all funds proposals, requests cannot be accepted for capital expenditures, tuition, scholarships, fundraising drives, emergency relief, or endowments. In the budget breakdown section of the proposal, we request a more detailed breakdown in the areas of non-personal and educational equipment. As noted on our request guideline we do not fund any capital expenditures and, we need more clarification on these costs before we can accept the proposal. Credibility The credibility of CECC is also a question that needs to be answered with more clarification. CECC has been around for six years and that is quite an accomplishment. However, are there any other awards or recognitions that CECC may have received after the award from CDBG in 1994? The type of service provided by CECC correlates...

Alternative Funding

...Alternative funding can go different ways for the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency. When coming up with ideas for alternative funding, PEACE must plan, have a positive attitude and be determined. Some steps taken in raising funds are critical such as readiness, research, reality, request and relationship between you and donor. The board of directors of the PEACE Domestic Violence Agency will provide readiness material to distribute to all staff, such as the fund raising plan, purpose and expectations. Research is the beginning of needed knowledge that helps lead to the right donors by reviewing their giving patterns and strategic areas of interest of these donors. A list of possible donors may be of local businesses old and new, volunteers near and far and the public. Reality is a step that indicates the best prospect. ...growth in activities which are categorized as Sponsored Programs, with the potential for additional growth into the future. With growth comes the need for clarity in policies and procedures to be followed in the administration of these activities in order to meet University and sponsor requirements, and to provide the best possible support and service to all parties involved. Accounting Case

...Memo: To: Edward Sloane, Senior Audit Partner From: David Mynarski, CGA Date: January 15, 20X5 Re: Analysis of Issues for Vehicles for Hope Ltd. (VHL) Audit I have identified issues pertaining to the 2014 audit of VHL, based on the information provided in my meeting with VHL’s Accountant today. I have provided an analysis and recommendations for each of these issues. Financial Accounting Issues Under the Deferral method of accounting that VHL adheres to, the land, building and equipment donation by the Board member would be recorded as revenue and matched to expenses in the year the related costs of maintaining / operating these items are incurred. However, since VHL follows Part III of the CICA Handbook – Accounting and under Part III, an entity has a choice between recording restricted contributions under the Deferral or the Restricted Fund method. I recommend VHL choose the Restricted Fund method of accounting. This would allow VHL to separate their contributions into specific funds, based on what the funds are used for, eliminating the need to defer recognition of the donation revenue. Under the Restricted Fund method, the donated land, building and equipment would be recorded in the capital asset fund in the 2014 year, and the donation for automotive toolkits would be recorded in the restricted fund in 2014, since it is to be used for a specific purpose. Any other non-restricted, non-capital funds donated to VHL would be recorded in the Current...

Museums and Art Galleries

...One very complex issue in today’s world is the funding of museums and art galleries. While there is an argument that they should be free to the general public and funded by governments, I also believe that there is also a case for saying that they should charge an entrance fee like other attractions. Those who argue that museums should be free typically make one of two arguments. The first argument is that institutions like museums are a public service and therefore there should be free access to the man in the street. If for example there was a charge only the wealthy could afford to enjoy works of art. The second, and related, argument is that if they did levy a charge fewer people would go to museums. This would be serious as they are educational institutions and standards would fall. In contrast, there is only one major argument on the other side of the debate. This is that both museums and art galleries need to charge an entrance fee if they are to survive in the modern world. Governments do not have sufficient funds to subsidize all such institutions and there are other priorities for public money. Therefore these galleries and museums need to charge their customers not only to survive but to update their exhibitions and make new purchases. By way of illustration, the Tate Modern in London could not have been founded without revenue from admissions. My personal position is that there is no clear answer to this question as there are such strong arguments on both sides...

Tourism

...Tourism BETTER FUNDING FOR STATE TOURISM ORGANIZATIONS An almost universal problem for state tourism organizations is the scarcity of funding. Budgets are tight with so many social and other problems plaguing the states. Also, there is some reluctance to fund the tourism promotion organization by those who feel mistakenly that it is mainly the tourist businesses that profit from the industry rather than the population in general. Competition for state funds by other agencies is intense and, as a rule, the tourism people do not as good as lobbying as other interest groups. In order to do something at this regard, the Governor appointed a 40-member tourism task force to investigate ways in which tourism promotion could be accomplished in a more adequate manner. The task force has come up with the following plan: they recommend that the state legislature establish a “tourism marketing order” to raise funds from assessments the industry makes upon itself about the way in which each business should contribute to funding. Businesses that would be assessed include transportation companies, travel agencies, cruise lines, rental car companies, accommodations, attractions, recreation facilities, restaurants, retail outlets, factory outlets, and bars/drinking places. All funds raised would be used for state-wide tourism promotion. In order to implement this plan, the state legislature must first authorize a statewide referendum that would be conducted by the industry among...

Memo and Business Letter for Csu Funding

...Memo and Business Letter Student’s Name: Institution: Memo TO: CSU Funding campaign team members FROM: Yuqing and William DATE: February 5, 2014 SUBJECT: Funding for CSU This memo is a reminder of the meeting we have today. The agenda of the meeting is to talk about what we discussed and to get opinions on the matter. As the campaign group for the CSU funding, it is proper that we use all means and to gather all that is in our disposal for the task. We discussed on how we can acquire funding, and we agreed that we should not limit our campaign to only seeking finances. The essence of this program is to help increase CSU’s finances so that it can services its activities. This can be achieved through the provision finances and by enforcing measures to cut down costs. CSU has tried such measures, in the past, to cut down on its spending. It has done so by increasing its technology use to replace costly manual systems and by sharing services between departments and campuses. In our discussion, we suggested on the same idea that campaigning for funding does not exclusively mean seeking funds. We, therefore, discussed that if we can get people to volunteer, tutor or pursue internship programs, it would be a good measure of cutting down costs. Salary expenses are a significant part of the overall expenses and reducing these costs saves a lot of money for CSU. We also proposed that the target audience, for this plan of the campaign, is the graduates. Students do not have...
