The article I will be summarizing caught my eye because it explains which skills sets that will be needed for future jobs. This article is basing itself looking forward to the year 2020 and gives advice on which skill sets people should be preparing themselves for in the next 8 years. This article was written by a lady names Vickie Jimenez. She goes into detail about the importance of why having one or more of these skill sets are going to be so important in 2020. Personally I agree with her, because the world we live in now is not the world we were born into. Technology has grown so much in the past 20-30 years, which makes you think about how much more it is going to grow in the next decade. For example, Ms. Jimenez believes these skill sets are the most important out of any careers in the world today. The seven skill sets she talks about are; leaderships and management roles, social technologists/specialist, consulting, writing and editing, virtual assisting, IT (information technologists), and medical professionals. Jimenez explains that this world is turning itself into a globalized computer technology based universe. In more detail, this means technology is literally taking workforce jobs away from us because any industry anywhere is turning itself into computer based ran machines. With more technology comes less jobs. Also, the out sourcing for jobs now has become normal for the United States of America and many other countries. This is not a good thing for our work force future. Anybody and everybody now a day needs to have an education to even make the first steps into our future and to guarantee they will have a career. The skill sets she mentions are going to be very valuable in 2020 because of the technology epidemic. The leadership/ management, social technologists/specialist, consulting, virtual assisting, and IT (information technologists) all fall into the same group. Jimenez explains that it will be important for us, as up and coming career building people to be knowledgeable an well cultured. This will be important because of how many jobs are overseas. The person in these positions will need to know different languages along with the right way of doing things to even be considered for any of these roles. Being diverse will open jobs for people working in any type of computer based positions. As everybody knows, the “HR” person at any job is the person between managers, an in this case, the person between the countries we are outsourcing our work too. Social technologists and consults will be hired right off the back because workers in these positions must be social able along with being totally experienced in the role they will be working. Not to mention that these positions will be going right along with being computer suave. The last two positions are writing and editing fields along with the medical professional. One good thing about going to school in the medical field is that there will always be jobs available. As the population gets larger, so will the need for medical professions in all specialties. Vickie Jimenez explains that having good writing and editing skills will be highly needed because we will need to know how to communicate with our outsourced countries without looking ignorant. As she goes on to explain the world we live in is forming itself to be mostly reliable on computers. Having good “writing and editing skills will be in high demand” (Jimenez, 2010)For every one of these skill sets stated the person in these roles will need to know how to write papers, proper emails, letters, and most important being able to explain directions for the new technology coming our way. In conclusion Vicky Jimenez makes extremely valid points on being successful in the future. For our country, for our children, for the baby boomers to generation 2020, will need a new way of thinking when it comes to being successful. Technology is not going to go away. I myself can see how this world is going to be totally reliable on computers and that we as a country need to focus more on what will pay the bills instead of what will make us happy in the career we will be in.
