The evidence found at the crime scene could have proven to be very valuable and useful but it is unfortunate that a majority of the evidence either wasn’t identified or was contaminated.
Due to the wrongful classification of the crime scene, the officers didn’t know enough to implement proper crime scene protocols. One of the biggest issues of the case was not properly securing the crime scene. Family and friends of the Ramsey’s came and went in the house as they wished; unaware JonBenét was in the basement.
Another red flag is that the detective had John Ramsey and a close friend, Fleet White, search the house to look for “anything unusual”. John and Fleet were to be the ones to find JonBenét’s body. The officers, media, and everyone following …show more content…
A John Mark Karr had been under suspicion and even admitted to being with her the night of her death, and that it was an accident, but the DNA on her, and his DNA were not a match. With new evidence found, is that within a two-mile radius of the Ramsey home, 38 of their neighbors happened to be registered sex offenders. There were also many, many burglaries happening in their neighborhood that the Ramsey’s had no idea about. Until the private detectives they hired, Ollie Gray, and John San Augustin. With this new information, the Boulder DA decided to reopen the case and look into these findings. It is now believed that there was a possibility of two intruders because they found two different boot marks in the basement. Due to the reopening of the case, forensic scientists in Colorado have been able to make a complete DNA profile of JonBenét’s killer. All they know is he is a male, but unfortunately not his name. In 1997, however, there was one suspect that seemed very plausible, Michael Helgoth. A co-worker of his went to the police after the JonBenét murder, telling him everything he knew. Helgoth had told John Kenady that him and a partner were going to make a “killer deal” with each making about $50,000-$60,000 each. After Christmas, Kenady noticed that Helgoth seemed depressed and even said to him “I wonder what it would be like to crack a human skull”. Kenady wanted no part in that conversation and when he had read in the paper about JonBenét and saw the amount in the ransom note, he went to the police. When police when to Helgoth’s home two days later, they found he had committed suicide. Unfortunately the
