The Sale of Goods Act (SOGA) and associated laws and regulations set out your legal rights as a consumer. These are briefly summarised below.

Under SOGA if an item is faulty, it means that it is • not of satisfactory quality • not fit for purpose • does not match the retailer’s description. If an item you have bought is faulty you may be legally entitled to a refund or a repair or replacement. What you are entitled to will depend on a number of factors; contact Consumer Direct for more information. You do not have a legal right to receive a refund, repair or replacement for any of the reasons listed opposite

• fair wear and tear • accidental damage or misuse of the item • if you don’t want the item any more, for example it is the wrong size or colour • if you knew the item was faulty when you bought it • if you misused the item and caused a fault • if you tried to repair the item or had someone else try to repair it, which damaged the item • if it is over six years since you purchased the item, or for goods purchased in Scotland, if it is over five years since you discovered the fault.

If you buy an item by mail order, telephone or online you have the same rights if the item is faulty (see above). You also have an important additional right if you want to return the item: you can cancel your order any time from when you place it up to 7 working days from the day after you receive the goods – even if the item is not faulty.

Some items bought online cannot be returned simply because you change your mind. For more information on Distant Selling Regulations contact Consumer Direct.

This publication is intended for consumers buying goods from retail businesses, it is not intended for businesses buying goods from other businesses.

Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Skills

...Introduction Seylan Bank PLC, founded in 1987 and opened for business a year later; being one of the most admired banks in Sri Lanka and a leading innovator of banking services in the country, the fifth largest Bank in Sri Lanka and part of the mighty Ceylinco Group. The goal of the founding chairman, Dr. Lalith Kotelawela was to offer customers a more welcoming, customer friendly and service-oriented alternative to the traditional banking environment that was generally perceived to be formal, regimented and austere. The Bank quickly differentiated itself from other institutions in the market with a range of innovative services and attractive products including extended weekday banking hours as well as Saturday service, several bonus interest options and Cash-card access to non-resident foreign currency accounts that were often used by Sri Lankan expatriates to transfer funds to their dependents. Customers who had always been waiting for better interest returns for their deposits and with their trust to the public image of Dr. Kotelawela wasted no time and became customers of this newly established financial institution. Seylan soon became a well known brand in the industry with rapid growth and paying the highest interest returns to depositors. As per the company’s ‘The Case Study’ (2009) report, in its first partial year of operations, Seylan reported an after tax profit of Rs. 11.3 Million ending at 31st December 1988. Effects of Drugs on Mucus Clearance

Gosselink, G. Gayan-Ramirez, M. Decramer. #ERS Journals Ltd 1999. ABSTRACT: Mucociliary clearance (MCC), the process in which airway mucus together with substances trapped within are moved out of the lungs, is an important defence mechanism of the human body. Drugs may alter this process, such that it is necessary to know the effect of the drugs on MCC. Indeed, agents stimulating MCC may be used therapeutically in respiratory medicine, especially in patients suspected of having an impairment of their mucociliary transport system. In contrast, caution should be taken with drugs depressing MCC as an undesired side-effect, independently of their therapeutic indication. Since cough clearance (CC) serves as a back-up system when MCC fails, the influence of drugs must be examined not only on MCC but also on CC. Ultimately, the clinical repercussions of alterations in mucus transport induced by drug administration must be studied. Tertiary ammonium compounds (anticholinergics), aspirin, anaesthetic agents and benzodiazepines have been shown to be capable of depressing the mucociliary transport system...

However, in terms of volume based sales it is evident that the lower tiers of the income pyramid opt for low cost substitutes due to the price barrier. On a more practical note it is the executive that is more likely to require vehicle detailing on a comparatively regular basis. 3M CLIENTELE 3M CLIENTELE 3M Car detailing is yet to reach its maturity in the product life cycle and in this growth phase instead of a premium pricing strategy a penetration pricing strategy or a more affordable product portfolio would be instrumental in generating sales at this crucial point in the product life cycle. From the above analysis of 3M Car Care’s growth it can be derived that the product is not performing up to its full potential and can risk a premature decline. In order to alter this trend for the better there has to be a change in the current marketing mix put into effect. ISSUES ARISING AS A RESULT OF A HIGH PRICE * Restricted demand from individual customers and channel partners Demand is restricted across the entire range of car detailing...
