“Accepting No”
Accepting no to some people means they shut down, to others it makes them grind harder to strive for better then what they would usually settle for. You will be told “No” many times in your life. Getting angry and upset only leads to more problems. If you are able to appropriately accept a “No” answer, people might be more likely to say “Yes” to your requests in the future.
“Asking Permission”
It is important to ask permission whenever you want to do something or use something that another person is responsible for. Asking permission shows your respect for others and increases the chances that your request will be granted. Sometimes, you won’t get what you want. But if you have asked permission politely and correctly, you are more likely to get what you want the next time.
“Conversing with Peers and Adults”
You should always know how to speak to a person or persons. Being able to have an affective language and voice upon a group of people or an impotent person is very paramount. When knowing how to communicate well with someone including (Being able to be heard over a loud room, eye contact with everybody in the room, or just that person, and fluent language) shows that your are very serious about what you do, or bring to the table of business.
“Disagreeing Appropriately”
Don't make the disagreement personal. If you get upset, it can help to remember you're mad at the idea or concept your parent (or friend, coach, coworker, etc.) is raising, not the person. Avoid putting down the other person's ideas and beliefs. Use "I" statements to communicate how you feel, what you think, and what you want or need. Listen to the other point of view, and stay calm.
“Following Instructions”
The importance of instructions is so you will know what to do, you need to know how to do it right. Like you need to know how to follow instructions at school so you

...5101 South 11th Street ● Arlington, VA 22204 ● USA ● www.steadystate.org info@steadystate.org ● +1 541-602-3097 GDP and Indicators of Economic Wellbeing Sound Byte At this point in history, increasing economic activity does more harm than good, so we need to adopt new indicators of wellbeing such as the Genuine Progress Indicator. GDP and Its Discontents For many years, especially since World War II, nations have equated economic growth with progress. Economic growth is an increase in the production and consumption of goods and services, and is indicated by increasing Gross Domestic Product (GDP). GDP, therefore, has become the standard measure of economic progress, even though it was only intended as a macroeconomic accounting tool. Prompted by Wall Street, the Federal Reserve System, and the media, citizens generally applaud increases in GDP. The problem with GDP is that it doesn't separate costs from benefits. It simply adds them together under the heading of economic activity. In a 1968 campaign speech, Robert F. Kennedy eloquently explained the shortcomings of using GDP to gauge progress. Is increasing GDP indicative of increasing wellbeing? It depends on whether the social costs of such an increase outweigh the benefits. GDP is a good measure of size, but at some point bigger is worse, not better. At the individual level, economic activity is required for wellbeing, but the relationship becomes very weak after a surprisingly...

Ecobomic Growth and Development

...THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN “ECONOMIC GROWTH” AND “ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT” Kevin Bucknall WHY ARE WE INTERESTED IN THE DIFFERENCE? ·  We need to understand the processes of each better; it is useful information. · · · · We need to know in order to advise governments on policies and what they can do to improve their performance. Many questions concerning third world countries impact on growth or development; they may be either a help or a hindrance. Some•issues•are•created•by•growth•but•not•by•development,•for•example•pollution. Focussing solely on economic growth as desirable can lead to undesirable consequences. ECONOMIC GROWTH What is growth? This is reasonably unambiguous; it is the change in national income over time, usually measured over one year. National income is the amount produced by a country in one year. How can we measure growth? We measure it by the percentage change in the level of national income, often over the period of one year. There are three ways of adding it up: · · · production, or incomes,•or expenditure GDP = gross domestic product (produced within a country). GNP = gross national product (includes income coming into or going out of country). NNP = net national produce (an allowance is made for depreciation of capital). National income per capita often matters most if looking at how well off a country is; how well it is doing; or if comparing it with another country. © Copyright Kevin B. A Genuine Dream: Drive and Commitment

...A Genuine Dream: Drive and Commitment According to Oprah Winfrey, She believes that “each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a finger-print and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” In other words, every person has their own individual unique traits that make them who they are and that anyone can accomplish great things. All these words kept going through my head as I thought about school and my future. The more I thought about Winfrey’s words, the more I wanted to find out. I never thought that to accomplish things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe if you want something bad enough, listen to your heart and gut feeling, tune others negative thoughts, and you can do anything you set your mind to. Step one is listening to your heart and fulfilling your wants and needs so you can reach anything you set your mind to, such as a dream. Dream is normally defined as a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind. In my own words dream means sticking to your morals, and sticking to the point by telling yourself that you can do anything you want, you just have to believe in yourself and follow your heart. My dream since I was a little girl has been to become a pediatrician, so I can take care of new born babies, toddlers and teenagers. On the other hand Strickland...

Troubleshooting Essay

...Introduction to Personal Computers Arthur J. Teufel III TB143 I own two personal computers, particularly a desktop and a laptop. Both of these PC’s are running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The desktop, an HP M7250N, was purchased in April 2006 and the laptop, a Toshiba M105-S3004, was purchased in June 2007. Both PC’s were purchased new. At first both units performed very well with no long term issues. Approximately two months after the purchase of each computer, I noticed that they were failing to automatically install several updates from both the Windows Update and the Microsoft Update sites. These updates included various security and root certificate updates. The updates were able to download to my computers, but the installation itself had failed. The only changes that had been made to the computers were the installation of updates, some games, Microsoft Office 2003, and some utility programs. Regular maintenance (disc cleaner and defrag) had been performed nearly weekly. My first course of action, per Microsoft’s instruction, was to click a link on the update site which, referencing a specific error number, took me to a search of the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any Knowledge Base articles that specifically addressed failed automatic updates. My next attempt to gain a clue was to search Microsoft’s entire Knowledge Base as well as Tech Support forums for a mention of “Failed Automatic Updates installation...

Genuine Meaning of Being Canadian

...ENG3U1b 25 February 2013 The Genuine Meaning of Being Canadian What does it really mean to be Canadian? People have numerous statements to define themselves "Canadian". Many individuals would recognise themselves as Canadian citizens simply because they were born in Canada. In fact, it is sometimes the occasion that even people from different races may tell you that they are "just" or "100%" Canadian, when you ask their background. On the other hand, it is somewhat important to look at some general stereotypes of Canadians such as living in igloos (Eskimos), hating wars (i.e. peacekeeping), loving hockey, eating at Tim Horton's, wearing fur hats, and having "free" healthcare. Of course, most of these stereotypes are frivolous and fallacious while some others are tolerable merely to extent. Nonetheless, some people in different countries of the world, especially the U.S, apparently choose to think of them as the main characteristics of Canadian people. When it comes to peacekeeping, most Canadians would think of Lester B. Pearson's actions for Canada, like establishing the United Nation Emergency Force, for solving the Suez Crisis, and the Policy of Bilingualism in Canada. Pearson's eloquent speech illustrates the peacekeeping nature exists in Canadians, particularly when he declares "I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given to participate in that work as a representative of my country, Canada, whose people have, I think, shown their devotion to peace." I...

...GDP and its Flaws The Gross domestic product of a country primarily indicates the state that the country’s economy is in. Gross domestic product (GDP) is a measure of all market activity, as well as all the money that changes hands in a country during a fiscal period. GDP is usually calculated on an annual basis and it measures the total output of all goods and services produced in a country. It is a standard measure of the country’s total economic activity. As a country’s GDP rises, it is an indication that the economy is doing well, but as the GDP decreases, this is a clear sign that the country is experiencing economic downfall. However is the GDP an adequate measure of the countries well being? There are many flaws when considering the GDP, therefore it isn’t s good economic indicator. In today’s society, unemployment rates are increasingly high. There are many people whose income relies on jobs in which they do not receive a direct pay cheque. Individuals who are unemployed often volunteer in their communities, or find other ways to occupy their time. GDP only counts money transactions, so it leaves out many favours that people provide for each other at no cost. Moreover major parts of the household economy are ignored such as care for the elderly and for children, home maintenance and cleaning, food preparation. To add on voluntary service for the environment such as church and civic groups are also uncared for when considering the GDP. However GDP assigns...

...oil refineries on American soil. GDP is compiled from our recorded market transactions. Those activities that are excluded from the marketplace are therefore not recorded. There is no accounting for leisure time, household production, underground economic production, and the psychic costs and benefits of various jobs. In addition, the environmental damage committed not just by our production of goods and services, but our very lifestyle, is likewise excluded from the calculation of GDP. What GDP measures as growth is merely increased spending, but it doesn't indicate whether the spending is good or bad. GDP rises with every oil spill, increase in air pollution, and nearly every other environmental disaster. The Genuine Progress Index (sometimes called the Genuine Progress Indicator) is an alternate measure of our national well-being. Using GDP as its starting point, the GPI adds in sectors usually excluded from the market economy such as housework and volunteer work, and subtracts crime, natural resource depletion, and the loss of leisure time. It also adds in crucial contributions of the environment, such as clean air and water, moderate climate, and protection from the sun's burning rays. Agricultural activity that...

To Kill A Mockingbird Genuine Gentlemen Analysis

...The Proper Etiquette of Genuine Gentlemen The first step to being a gentleman is of course showing respect. Or is it courage? Or education? Although Jem Finch may think that most of the men that live in Maycomb are gentlemen, Atticus Finch says otherwise. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Jem characterizes himself along with his father as being true gentlemen. What makes up a gentleman? One might ask this question when trying to find out what the true definition of the word is. If one were to look up gentlemen in the dictionary the definition would be: a man from a good family; a well-bread male, but if Atticus Finch were to define the word the definition would be completely different. Atticus believes that to be a true gentleman...

Synaesthesia – a Convincing Example of a Genuine Effect in Psychology.

...Title: Synaesthesia – a convincing example of a genuine effect in psychology. Synaesthesia is a condition in which stimulation of one modularity leads to unusual activation of different modularity. According to Simner (2007) the most common synaesthesias (ca. 88%) are induced by linguistically related stimuli such as words, graphemes (letters and numerals) and phonemes which trigger visual, gustatory or olfactory experience (e.g. colour, shape, taste, smell). For synaesthetes, in everyday life, reading a newspaper or listening to CD might result in seeing colours or experiencing tastes. For example (Simner, 2007), when ES hears a major sixth tone interval he tastes low-fat cream. Similarly, on hearing F-sharp he sees the colour purple. Such experience is sometimes described as a “merging of senses”. After Galton (1880) carried out his first studies on synaesthesia in the late 19th century not many scientists were investigating the phenomenon treating it instead as a curiosity. Recently, in the light of contemporary cognitive and neuroscience studies the topic of synaesthesia regained interest. Since initially, evidence indicating that synaesthesia is a real and concrete sensory phenomenon was scarce and based mainly on the anecdotal reports, scientists were interested in testing its genuineness. According to Ramachandran and Hubbard (2001) some accounts of the condition stated that it is solely product of imagination or that such experiences are nothing more than childhood...

Genuine Bona Fide Occupational Job Qualifications

...PART I: Did CARDWARE have genuine Bona Fide Occupational Job Qualifications) in its ad? Title VII of the 1964 Civil Right Act addresses the Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications (BFOQ) that can be used in legal employment discriminations. BFOQs are employment qualifications that employers are allowed to take into consideration while making employment decisions about hiring and retention of employees that falls under the “protected groups of people.” These groups that Title VII protects are race, religion, national origin, age, gender, or disability. (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, n.d.) To be legal in discriminating against any protected group, it must relate to an essential job duty and is considered necessary for the operation of the particular business. The Act applies to employers that employ fifteen or more employees. (Fundamentals of Business Law, 2013, p. 431) Also, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of age against individuals forty years of age and older. For the Act to apply the employer must employ more than twenty individuals. (Fundamentals of Business Law, 2013, p. 429) In this case of CARDWARE Inc., the business does not have a qualifying BFOQ and cannot discriminate against any one of the protected groups. Because CARDWARE has ten stores and employs three employees in each store, that means the business employs at least thirty employees and cannot discriminate on anyone aged over...

We Do Not Posses Any Genuine Freedom, Discuss

...“We do not possess any genuine freedom to act ethically” Discuss (35 marks) A person who acts ethically is one who will choose to make good decisions, those that are morally right and are good avoiding the wrong decisions which may have negative consequences. We can link the idea of acting ethically with morals, as an ethical person will have a good set of morals, this is because it is our morals that help is to freely decide which decisions to make, and encourage us to act selflessly and ethically. Eventhough, we have the ability to exercise our free will in all manner of ways and make choices, do we always have free will ? I believe freedom to be the ability to make your own choices, which are not influenced by anyone else’s opinions or decisions, when faced with either a difficult or easy decision. Some philosophers believe that our ability to make free choices is an illusion which means that we are not free at all. Others state that there is something else beyond our understanding that may cause our actions to be determined. These theories can be linked to Determinism. Determinism says that there are laws that exist outside of our control that cause the things that happen-laws such as gravity. Scientific laws determine all our actions based on what has happened before. Previous events have consequences that may be determined and which in turn will cause more consequences. This can be linked to Aristotle’s teachings which stated that every action has some sort...
