...immensely growing and becoming one of the strongest revenue generating market around the world. As the German car manufacturing industry is the third largest in this business sector and therefore it is not surprising that the well known German companies with Volkswagen leading the way want a big market share. According to this initial situation this paper should show up the actual situation of the Chinese markets and their own brands compared to the German and other manufacturers 1.0 Introduction of the market situation The market for automobiles in China has been the largest one in the whole world for now more than 8 years, as they overtook the leadership from the US market in 2008, measured by the total amount of units produced within a year. Since 2009 the numbers for the total production of automobile units exceed the ones of the total European Union or every other comparable market. Worth to say is the special situation of the Chinese market which has a broad variety in manufacturers and different models. So there are in general many foreign brands and a lot more Chinese brands which are mainly known in the Chinese market. As it is easy to recognize, the Chinese car manufacturers are not able to compete with the western quality, companies like General Motors, Volkswagen, Mercedes, BMW and others have great opportunities to challenge indigenous brands and catch a great amount of the market share. 1.1 Statistics Since 1992 the Chinese automotive market experienced and enormous...

Honda Case

...Honda in Europe( INTRODUCTION The Honda Motor Company first entered the European market in the early 1960s through the sale of its motorcycles. The company’s motor vehicles were introduced into Europe at a much later date. Honda’s motor vehicle sales in Europe have been relatively poor, especially in the previous five years. Despite its huge success in the North American market, Honda is struggling to gain a significant foothold in the European market. Honda executives wonder why their global strategy is sputtering. Is global strategy just a pipedream, or is something wrong with Honda's European strategy? History of Honda In 1946 Souichiro Honda founded the Honda Technology Institute. The company started as a motorcycle producer and by the 1950s had become extremely successful in Japan. In 1956, Honda entered the US market and was able to position itself effectively, selling small sized motorcycles. In the early 1960s, the company commenced automobile manufacturing and participated in Formula-1 racing (F-1) to assist its technology development. Thanks mainly to its F-1 efforts, Honda became recognized, not only in Japan but in the rest of the world as well, as a technological savvy company. Up to the early 1990s the company had experienced serious organizational mismanagement resulting from tension between the technology side and the marketing-sales side. The situation became so dire, that the technology biased president and founder, Souichiro Honda, was...

Ford

...Ford and the world automobile industry in 2012 At the beginning of 2012, the Chief Financial O cer of Ford Motor Company, Lewis Booth, was reviewing his nancial forecasts for 2012-16. Ford’s turnaround since the crisis of 2007-8 had been remarkable. After a loss of $14.7 billion in 2008, Ford earned net pro ts of $6.6 billion in 2010, and it looked as though Ford’s pro t for 2011 would exceed this. The recovery had been much more rapid than Booth had expected. Ford’s business plan of December 2008 projected that it would not break even until 2011.1 Booth attributed the speed of the turnaround to three factors: rst government measures in North America and Europe to stimulate demand through incentives for scrapping old cars and subsidies for purchasing new, fuel-e cient models; second, the recovery of demand in several major markets including China, India, Brazil and the US; third, Ford’s own restructuring. The “One Ford” transformation plan introduced in 2006 had closed plants, cut Ford’s workforce from 295 000 at the beginning of 2006 to 148 000 at the end of 2011, sold Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo and a large chunk of Mazda; integrated Ford’s global activities; and accelerated product development including an increasing emphasis on smaller cars. Despite these successes, Booth looked to the future with much trepidation. Ford’s performance over the next ve years would depend on three main factors: Ford’s ability to continuing success with its One Ford strategy, the state of the...

Cars

...An automobile, autocar, motor car or car is a wheeled motor vehicle used for transporting passengers, which also carries its own engine or motor. Most definitions of the term specify that automobiles are designed to run primarily on roads, to have seating for one to eight people, to typically have four wheels, and to be constructed principally for the transport of people rather than goods.[3] The year 1886 is regarded the year of birth of the modern automobile - with the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, by German inventor Carl Benz. Motorized wagons soon replaced animal-drafted carriages, especially after automobiles became affordable for many people when the Ford Model T was introduced in 1908. The term motorcar has formerly also been used in the context of electrified rail systems to denote a car which functions as a small locomotive but also provides space for passengers and baggage. These locomotive cars were often used on suburban routes by both interurban and intercity railroad systems.[4] It was estimated in 2010 that the number of automobiles had risen to over 1 billion vehicles, up from the 500 million of 1986.[5] The numbers are increasing rapidly, especially in China, India and other NICs. ------------------------------------------------- Etymology The word automobile comes, via the French automobile from the Ancient Greek word αὐτός (autós, "self") and the Latin mobilis("movable"); meaning a vehicle that moves itself. The loanword was first adopted in English by The New...
