Lindsey hall p.1 Today I am interviewing Sonya from Guatemala. She was visiting on a student visa. Then got married to a permanent resident and retained her green card.
Me: What inspired you to become a U.S citizen?
Sonya: Well, there is much more opportunities for me here in the states. My education will improve here, the job opportunities are much higher & well paying for my future family.
Me: What steps did you have to take as part of the naturalization process?
Sonya: At first, I was in college in Guatemala, I then got a student visa to come here and go to school and have an internship in my future field I was studying in. My visa was only for the summer. I signed up for my permanent green card. I knew I wouldn’t retain it right away because no one does. I did end up finding my husband and we ended up getting married not to long after we met. I then retained citizenship through the marriage shortly after.
Me: How would you describe how you felt about the process?
Sonya: I felt it was a hassle and a struggle and lots of work to become a citizen of the U.S. Except in the end it all becomes worth it. I realize they do so much and test us on things to protect their country.
Me: How has gaining citizenship changed your life? Is your daily life different because of gaining citizenship?
Sonya: Gaining citizenship was such a drastic change in my life for the better. I was able to complete school here with a much better education then what was offered in Guatemala. I was able to receive a higher paying job then I had expected and It is also much easier and luxurious to raise my family here in a nice home. You miss home occasionally but I know that my life is much better of the U.S. Me: Do you feel the process was worthwhile?
Sonya: Of course I do! It has made my life much simpler in different ways. I will not saying the process in getting here was

The Importance of Measuring Enterprise Impact

...BIS/221 March 16, 2015 The Importance of Measuring Enterprise Impact Learning Team B has another brief discussion of the importance of measuring enterprise impact. The video with David Moschella summarized the importance of accurate tracking of data and without the technology put in place most companies are losing important data. Measuring, Monitoring and Managing Data In brief discussion, the team focused on measuring, monitoring and managing data. Gery specifically notes that many companies are outsourcing this task to companies rather than keeping it in house. Sheri talks about another great way to measure, monitor and manage with experience she has had with Lean Sigma Six. Define, measure, analyze, improve and control has been taught to her as DMAIC, which is another way for her to think about measuring monitoring and managing data and the importance of the impact on her organization. I myself with a small business that is growing am starting to do research on the best ways to measure, monitor and manage my data. Some questions to help me determine the importance of data are what will I use this information for? Can this information help grow my business? Do I have time to measure monitor and manage the data or should I outsource it? An article in ComputerWeekly.com states that using small business software can benefit a company by helping increase or measure productivity, it can save time and money, and make processes more efficient. Physical Design and Implementation

...Physical Design and Implementation Strayer University Physical Design and Implementation SQL Injection is one of the many web attack mechanisms used by hackers to steal data from organizations. It is perhaps one of the most common application layer attack techniques used today. It is the type of attack that takes advantage of improper coding of your web applications that allows hacker to inject SQL commands into say a login form to allow them to gain access to the data held within your database. In essence, SQL Injection arises because the fields available for user input allow SQL statements to pass through and query the database directly. SQL Injection is the hacking technique which attempts to pass SQL commands (statements) through a web application for execution by the backend database. If not sanitized properly, web applications may result in SQL Injection attacks that allow hackers to view information from the database and/or even wipe it out. Oracle database privileges are of two types, system privileges and object privileges. The system privileges grant users power to perform the specified actions system-wide, whereas the object privileges let users perform particular actions on specified database objects. Microsoft SQL Server allows individual users to create private objects in the database. The system records the owner of every user object. Users can access objects only if the owner of the object has granted them access. Administrators can define...

Literature Review: Gender Discrimination

...BUSI 600 - Literature Review Tony Hinds Liberty University Dr. Janet Jones October 11, 2013 Abstract The purpose of this literature review is to identify, discuss, and address gender discrimination in the workplace. Due to the broad spectrum of research regarding gender discrimination, this paper will primarily focus on women and pregnancy discrimination. This paper will attempt to uncover the obstacles and challenges experienced by women as they are subjected to the employment process and, if accepted for employment, what could await them within their workplace once they begin working. The statistical data collected and compiled within this literature review will attempt to support and prove that discrimination still exists today. The laws and regulations enacted within the United States to protect employees from the discriminatory practices of employers and whether they are adequately enforced will be discussed at length. Introduction There are thousands of discriminatory cases each year brought against corporations and employers by their employees and/or formal employees. The discrimination against individuals on the basis of gender is most prominent within the employment process, but also exists in the workplace after the acceptance of employment. Gender has been the subject of workplace discrimination and litigation for many years and recent data indicates that this trend is continuing. These types of discrimination are spread widely to include the assignment...

Living Apart Together.

...Living apart together. Living apart together or LAT is not a concept I understand, perhaps I’m old fashioned but how can you say that you’re in a serious relationship, when you only see each other every few days? Of course I can see that when you are young like 16-25 years old, it is normal not to live together. But when you decide to start a family, how can you still live apart? Everybody’s different, and if it makes sense to them, then let them be. But in my point of view I could not be in that form of relationship. Many couples are in a LAT relationship. To be in a LAT relationship means that you are involved with another person but you aren’t living together. It is mainly young people and separated people. It is a whole new trend LAT, many experts encourages people to live in a LAT relationship. Jeannette Lofas is one of the persons who encourage couples to live in a LAT arrangement. She says “ many young people are starting a new family after separation, and the blended families are so vulnerable to internecine resentments and power struggles, that it may can cost them there new family.” As the quote says there can be a lot of problems, with blended families. Many people are talking about how it is to be in a LAT relationship. As Ms. Davis says “ I feel I get a lot of togetherness and lot of time to myself. “ the reason she is living in a LAT, is that when she met her true love, she didn’t want to give up her apartment. Professor Popenoe is studying the reasons why...

Living Apart Together

...Living Apart Together L.A.T The Living Apart Together relationship, also mentioned as L.A.T relationship is a growing form of relationship, which has increased incredibly like wildfire as the text Just What Modern Romance Needs: “Living Apart Together” by Gary Picariello explains it: “… the concept has spread like wildfire among nearly 50% of young couples in Europe, the United States and even farther abroad”. The definition of “Living Apart Togethers “ is fairly simple; it is couples that wish not to live together, not owing to distance, work or children as many other couples are forced to, but because they simply want to live separately. One way to look at these L.A.Ts is as Jeanette Lofa, who “advocates living apart” does. She advocates L.A.Ts owing to the complications blended families often has to deal with which they could avoid, such as power struggles and internecine resentments. Partly agreeing with Jeanette Lofa is Professor Popenoe who points out that Living Apart Together makes sense for couples with kids and elderly couples who might have been married before. He is also worried that LATs will distort their capability of forming long-term relationships. Agreeing is Dr. Scott Haltzman who adds the capability of intimacy and cooperation as factors that might impair by living apart and not being forced to deal with it. Also, according to Gary Picariello qualities like compromising, negotiation and commitment are to be lost or not developed, if the two parts of...

Abstract Directed attention plays an important role in human information processing; its fatigue, in turn, has far reaching consequences. Attention Restoration Theory provides an analysis of the kinds of experiences that lead to recovery from such fatigue. Natural environments turn out to be particularly rich in the character istics necessary for restorative experiences. An integrative framework is proposed that places both directed attention and stress in the larger context of human-environment relationships. © 1995 Academic Press Limited Introduction Evidence pointing to the psychological benefits of nature has accumulated at a remarkable rate in a relatively short period of time. Whether a theoreti cal understanding of these restorative influences has kept pace with the empirical work is, however, less clear. As Hartig and Evans (1993) have pointed out, theory in' this area has been dominated by con flicting positions, one enlphasizing stress reduction (Ulrich, 1983) and the other concerned with recov ery of the capacity to focus attention (Kaplan & Talbot, 1983; Kaplan & Kaplan, 1989). While it might be argued that...

Pilates

...Tel Aviv University Spring Semester Faculty for Social Sciences 2011 Department of Psychology Course: Between Psychology and Medicine Paper on: Medical and Psychological processes in Pilates Presented by: Hani Ovadia Introduction Psychological and physical health is greatly affected by behavior, similarly, different patterns of behavior derive from psychological and physical health (Folkins 1981). Consequently, both psychotherapists and doctors recommend to their patients to participate in activities that advance a healthier lifestyle (Bull 1995). The patients are advised to integrate gymnastics of different types in their lifestyle, includ ing among others: aerobics, yoga, kickboxing and Pilates (Howell 2011). Pilates is an exercise method based on gentle phy sical movements integrated with focused mind. The physical aspect is designed to tone and increase the flexib ility of the muscles and joints and also includes developing good posture, balance and coordination. The psychological aspect is based on correct breathing and mental concentration (Field 2009) In this paper I will examine the beneficiary effects of Pilates as a mind and body training method. First, I will describe the development of the method and the uniqueness of Pilates in comparison to other physical exercising methods. Then, I will further examine the physical and psychological influence Pilates has on its practitioners, while referring to research difficulties that...
