Get Rich or Die Tryin

...Get Rich or Die Tryin Albert Gonzalez was a cunning career cybercriminal who once worked on both sides of the law. At one point in his criminal career he actually worked with secret service agents to help take down another hacking ring of several hackers. But Gonzales soon returned to his criminal roots soon after the sting where he would begin to hack into major corporation’s networks in order to steal credit card information. One of these corporations just happened to be TJX. The TJX network was not secure enough from the start. The company was using inadequate wireless security protocols. They used WEP security (wired equivalent privacy) which is easy to crack and a good hacker could break into this type of network security really fast. A hacker with a laptop could simply sit outside the store and break into the network in less than a minute. TJX should have been using the much stronger wireless security protocol WPA (WI-FI Protected Access Protocol). TJX also stored card data improperly. They stored credit card information such as pin codes and cvc codes which are on the back of most credit cards. PCI Data security standards states that sensitive data such as the PIN and CVC codes should not be stored. So the company broke protocol by storing this information. Even though a network breach occurred, this vital card information may have not been exposed if it wasn’t stored on the company network. Finally, the stored data was not encrypted. Another PDI protocol was broken by...

In 2003, he is arrested by New York Police officers after being observed using several cards at an ATM machine. During the arrest they discover that he is Albert Gonzales and turn him over to the Secret Service. The Secret Service soon learned of his potential and was able to convince him to work with them to bust other cybercriminals like himself. Once his role is complete in the capture of 28 other Shadowcrew members they Secret Service releases Albert Gonzales. After his release, Albert decided to use his skills to create his own group of cybercriminals and decided to term this operation get rich or die tryin’. He wanted to hack into major...

Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin

...Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin Albert Gonzalez’s convicted TJX hacker Albert Gonzalez was sentenced to 20 years in prison crimes were committed mostly between 2005 and 2008 while he was drawing a $75,000 salary working for the U.S. Secret Service as a paid undercover informant. The string of hacks began in 2005 when Gonzalez and accomplices conducted war-driving expeditions along a Miami highway and other locations in search of poorly protected wireless networks, and found easy access into several retailer networks. Once inside a local TJX outlet’s network, the hackers forged their way upstream to its corporate network in Massachusetts. Gonzalez obtained a packet sniffer from best friend Stephen Watt, which he and accomplices installed on the TJX network to siphon transaction data in real time, including the magstripe data on the credit and debit cards. Gonzalez’s sentencing follows two others related to the TJX hacks. Stephen Watt, a former coder for Morgan Stanley, was sentenced to two years in prison for providing the sniffer that Gonzalez used in the TJX hack. Watt was also ordered to pay restitution to TJX, jointly with other accomplices, in the amount of $171.5 million. Humza Zaman, a former network security manager at Barclays Bank, was sentenced to 46 months in prison and fined $75,000 for serving as a money courier for Gonzalez. He was charged with laundering between $600,000 and $800,000 for Gonzalez. Gonzalez’s sentence is among the stiffest imposed for...

Hi My Name

...Taylor Gordon EMF 140 Online Abstract #1 Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is continuing to pursue his acting career and is starring in, as well as producing the new film “Freelancers”, which was written by L. Philippe Casseus. Jackson will be playing the son of a deceiving NYPD officer who becomes affiliated with the corrupted force that his father helped build. “Freelancers” begins filming on March 28 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jackson has also been acknowledged for his prior films “Righteous Kill” and “Get Rich or Die Tryin’.” In my opinion, “Freelancers” will just be another poor written script and will probably serve as another embarrassment for 50 Cent. “Freelancers” sounds like another one of 50 cents’ stereotypical films that contains an extraordinary amount of violence, along with an excess of unnecessary profanity. For example, 50 Cent’s previous movie “Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is an autobiographical film of his own life. The film portrays 50 Cent’s disturbing life that consists of drugs, sex, violence, robbery, and most importantly, rap music. I believe that since 50 Cent wants to be represented as a convict, he should have no business in trying to continue his success as an actor or producer. If 50 Cent was such a great actor and producer, I’m sure he would of had many films out by now, but it seems to me that he is just in need of something that can boost his declining career. Additionally, 50 Cent should be ashamed of his lyrics in his rap songs. Therefore...

...allowed them to lose 80 GB of data. Gonzalez had blind servers in Latvia and Ukraine that were used to breach the system (NT2580: Week 1). Gonzalez performed reconnaissance on their retail stores. Then Gonzalez determined a weakness in the payment systems and utilized malware to intercept credit card information. Gonzalez committed this crime between 2006 through 2008 before being caught. Gonzalez was an informant for the Secret Service which Gonzalez took part in an undercover operation related to a card theft case (Sileo, Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin' Still Lives). Gonzalez was sentenced for the largest computer crime case that has been documented. The only motive Gonzalez has was technical curiosity and obsession with conquering computer networks. Gonzalez’s attorney argued that some of the loses were the result of TJX’s own negligence. If security upgrades were done then it may have prevented the breach (Zetter,TJX Hacker Gets 20 Years in Prison). In order to prevent an attack is to make sure that all security policies are up to date which this company has failed to do so. Just from a company not updating security for anything there will be flaws and this case is one of the best flaws that can be described when security is out of date. Could this breach been prevented? Yes, only if TJX cared enough to do...

...Get Rich or Die Tryin’ ITT Technical Institute Michael Sheldon 10-30-13 Get Rich or Die Tryin’ The IT security breach, caused by one Albert Gonzalez and his accomplices, is one of the most expensive lessons in corporate data security policies. For TJX this is more so as it is not only just that, it’s a black spot on the companies security record and has earned quite the problem as people no longer trust the company due to just how many security issues came to light with Albert’s breach. The TJX stores were foolishly using the relatively weak Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) protocol instead of updating to the stronger Wi-Fi Protected Access (WAP) protocol, making it much easier for the breaches to occur. However, the real damage came from the fact that the intruders were able to access the TJX internal systems, being able to move around freely for almost two years. The breaches occurred from the middle of the year 2005 and ran through December 2006, while an estimated 47.5 million records were stolen during that time period. TJX’s other security problem was because they allowed the hackers free roam for pretty much 18 months, showing the company didn’t keep proper traffic logs for their system, the company being unable to find them due to the need to look through all of their systems to try and determine just who it was that took what data, from where, where it was sent, and so on. Because of this, the investigation into the matter took...

50 Cent and His Life

...Someone crawled out of the back and came up on 50's left with a gun cocked. "Sneaky motherfucker, man," 50 says. "He did it right. He just didn't finish." The man hit him with nine shots at close range. 50 took bullets in the hand ("shell hit my thumb and came out my pinky"), the hip ("that one hurt-hurt"), the calf and the chest, and one to the face went through his left cheek and into his mouth. "You don't actually feel each one hit you," he says. "The adrenaline is pumping. You movin' and tryin' to get out of the way. I was bouncing around the back seat. We pulled off. We got a block or so. We had to pull over to get rid of the tote [gun]. Threw it in the sewer, then we got to the hospital. But I was up and still talking the whole time." A few weeks later, the gunman was murdered. 50 denies responsibility. He spent 13 days in hospital, then staggered out on a walking frame. Six weeks later, he began walking on his own. Now life was more precious to him. He began working on his body with endless push-ups, pull-ups and sit-ups. But, more importantly, there was now a large, squarish hole through the left side of his lower jaw and a piece of bullet in his tongue. He'd lost a bottom tooth and a U-shaped chunk of his gums, but his lazy tongue and the hole in his jaw gave him a slur like no one in hip-hop. "There's a different sound now when I talk, cos of the air around the tooth," 50 says. "Gettin' shot just totally fixed my instrument." The story of the shooting of 50 Cent...

Week 1 Analysis

...Analysis of TJX Vulnerabilities Chantelle M. Jones ITT Technical Institute Online NT 2580 The breach that was made from “Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin’” compromised the customer’s credit card information when performing transactions with TJX. The credit card information was obtained and sold which forced the company to lose out on millions of dollars and their customers became victims of identity theft. TJX was vulnerable to breaches because they failed to implement a proper IT security infrastructure within their network. Customer confidential information was saved in plain text. It was not encrypted which makes it easier for attackers to obtain the information. They were not to be in compliance with payment card industry (PCI) security standards. TJX also did not restrict wireless access to their network and failed to notice 80 GB of stored data being transferred from their servers. They also did not follow up on security warnings and intruder alerts. It took IT seven months to discover the packet sniffer then failed to notify their customers. The attack escalated to a full-scale breach because even after the packet sniffer was discovered, there was no disaster recovery plan put into motion in order to stop the threat from doing more damage. They were noncompliant with numerous requirements for secure payment and transactions. One of which is the absence of logs. It would be much more difficult to eradicate threats without knowing when, how or where they took place....

Breach Analysis

...“Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin’ Case Study Report The impact to the organizations involved is very large and can be catastrophic if they are not quick to respond to the security breach in their network fast, in a few different ways. A company needs to be very proactive here and have a well-planned out security plan in place along with a security breach plan and response in place and the right people from within the company and outside the company to help with a proper response. The first and fastest response needs to be to the public or their customers making them aware of what happened and what is known so far, and when there will be an update to the situation with more details of the breach as to how it happened and when and where the system was breached, if the law allows it. Sometimes saying nothing can happen if the company is directed to not make a statement due to an active investigation into the crime. If they are able to make a statement it’s best for them to announce it first before the media does. It’s best for them to take ownership of the breach and let the customers know they are taking steps to fix the issue and have hired outside IT professionals to review the company’s data center security and how data is transferred throughout the company. Today you have to look at security as not “if” you will have a security issue, but “when” you will have it. You still need to do all you can to prevent an attack but you also need to be prepared for when one actually happens...

Western Empire Of Rome Essay

...empire of Rome. A numerous, chains of events led to the squandering of power from the Western Empire shortly after the Pax Romana ended. The first to go down the drain was the economy, who sadly couldn’t survive after Rome’s currency begin to go through inflation; which is a dramatic change in a currency’s value. Also, we must not forget the plethora of battles that Rome fought, so money was needed to buy supplies, alliances, materials and other equipment for war; which put them in a even deeper hole than before. Consequently, Rome became vulnerable and under shaky terms, so invaders such as the Germanic took that as an advantages. Of course, Rome was not trying to go without a fight so they naively hired unloyal and untrustworthy “Get Rich Or Die Tryin” mercenaries to defend Rome, who eventually turned on them. Along with economic and military troubles, the Romans weren’t looking too good politically wise either, weak administration, civil conflict and moral decaying cause the crash of the infamous political base that represented Rome. However, Rome wasn’t always in dark times- no, there came a man that went by the name of Diocletian, who took Rome from under the carpet and brought it back to life- briefly. Diocletian managed to double the military’s body count and also took it upon himself to split Rome into two parts: the Eastern Empire; which coincidentally happened to be Diocletian, and the Western Empire; the fallen one. Momentarily, after Diocletian’s death a Christian...

Conspicuous Consumption and Capitalism in America

...in respect to conspicuous consumption as a contributing factor to economic growth, Adam Smith might see conspicuous consumption as a way of increasing self-interest, resulting in healthy competition in a free market, and promoting a strong and thriving economy. Perhaps the most conspicuous consumption example of the modern day American culture is the reality television show, MTV Cribs. The show gives viewers a glimpse of the luxurious lives of musicians, movie stars and athletes, and the ridiculous material wealth these celebrities possess. Normally the half an hour show takes viewers through several celebrities’ homes and expensive toys, but in one particular episode, the whole thirty minutes was solely dedicated to the “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” rapper, 50 Cent. The show starts out with a security guard allowing access to a gate opening into his mega-mansion. The ridiculous, behemoth castle is 51,657 square feet on a 17.6 acres...
