In this essay, I will be writing about a cultural group which is called gothic, they are part of a subculture. A subculture is a cultural group that are part of a large group, they usually would have a very different and unique style, as a comparison to the large crowd. It’s a mainstream culture which embraces its unique style.
Moreover, I will be explaining the gothics fashion, music, language, life style and their beliefs.
Firstly, Goths don’t mean the same thing to different people, they have adopted a unique style to show that they are different as a comparison to the youth. Their fashion sense is very different, they would wear extreme black clothing, light make up and wear symbolic jewellery such as the cross. The gothic clothing evolved in England 1980s. The use of dark colours, especially black is characteristic of Gothic sub-culture and fashion. The styling in subculture range is Victorian, post punk, death rock or a mixture of all of them. European men and women who follow this sub-culture, dye their hair black, using black nail polish and lipstick and wear dark or black clothes to create a Gothic sub-cultural fashion statement. They also would have many tattoos and piercings, the Gothic lifestyle is so individually unique that there are no set standards for designs. Some of the more popular designs include Gothic cross tattoos.
In addition to this Goths have a certain music genre they like to listen to. Their music tends to concentrate on the very nasty, topics that society don’t talk about and wants to ignore and forget. They have different types of styles when it comes to their music for example; gothic rock, death rock, post punk and many more.
Punk music stopped being popular around the70s, when disco came along. However the punk subculture was still there. Some examples of punk rock band are sex pistols and circle jerks.
Another genre that Goths listen to is called alternative music, this type is usually labelled to a band when they are not doing something different and new. Alternative music is also not part of the mainstream, not that popular. Some people suggest the gothic culture only shows the depressing, sad and angry emotions only and that they don’t promote positive thoughts and feelings. On the other hand Goths only like to create peace and happiness. They just aware of what’s going on in this world, and that not everything can be about happiness.

Not all, Goths but most of them have got a religion that they like to follow called Christian Satanism. What is a Christian Satanism? I would describe them as people who have been raised I Christian traditions. They still believe in the principles of Christianity, where as they like to worship the Satan rather than the Christ. They call them self’s Satanist, they are very rebellious and tend to make up as they go along. These youths are usually about 10 to 16 years of age. They get their information from friends, certain kinds of music, books, movies, videos, and television. Crimes they might commit would be: vandalizing a stop sign, smashing a tombstone, breaking into a church and stealing something, or ripping up a Bible.
What attracts the youth to Satanist?
• It's normal for many kids rebel while growing up. Satanism is visible and available, some kids use it to get back at their parents
• Their friends are into it, so they go along.
• They are lonely and want to gain friends and acceptance.
• Everyone wants to feel special or important.
